I would think that a project as mature a Google+ wouldn't cost too much to mantain, specially for company the size of Google. So I'm surprised that the amount of data they're able to gather from Google+'s posts isn't worth the trouble to keep it alive.
Err, I'm pretty sure international versions also have un removable non-essential apps. My old S4 used to have Facebook and a few others. Carrier-branded phones usually do have additional non-removable crap though
- The insult isn't necessary.
- Yes, they can and they do contribute but the can't control what others do with Linux or its complete design and overall direction as they can obviously do with something they develop themselves and the kernel in Fuchsia.
utorrent, another example of great software being turned into crap by greed.
Thankfully, a bittorrent client isn't something as complex as an office suite so there're plenty of alternatives that're as good or better than utorrent ever was.
So, if you keep using it it's your fault.
I don't know what are the intentions of Google regarding Fuchsia but I'd bet they want it to replace Android on the long term. After all, Linux is the largest piece of software in the Android stack that Google doesn't control
Because, apparently, programs have to have the same UI in every device and use case and since mobile is the top priority these days (and also the lowest common denominator) PC users are left with a totally inappropiate UI.
Seriously, you thought they could leave both UIs but no, that's too much to ask.
" its not about users or user freedom"
Well, you can argue no OS is except for those that are open source. Apple does seem to have a different business model (not involving user data) but I wouldn't call them user friendly. Meanwhile Microsoft is busy androidizing Windows 10 (user data gathering, integrating ads in the OS and several apps).
I'm not excusing Android though, I'd be nice if I could pay some money and it be ad and spying-free but alas that's not so
As a long time user of Netbeans I was very saddened when Oracle decided to stop pouring money into it. A project of this size IMO needs financial support of a big company to stay competitive with the rest of the field. I'm afraid Netbeans won't be able to stay competitive with others IDE with backing from big (or just commercially interested) companies i.e.: Visual Studio, Eclipse, IDEA, etc.
In addition, because of licensing reasons it currently lacks many plugins/features that were available in the times of 8.2. I hope most can return
Your abandonware argument has some merit the problem is that it may be tricky to determine what should be considered abandonware. For example: Many DOS games that have been ignored by their copyright owners for many years have been put on sale again through places like GOG.com. They could have been considered abandoned five years ago but not now.
Well, the bit about the engine being open source is not because they're just nice it's because it's based on an open source engine (KDE's KHTML) and so they're forced to release whatever modifications they make
It will also Microsoft the boatloads of work and thus money that takes to create a modern web browser engine. Anyway, I'm sad the decided to stop developing their own engine because that leaves only two: Chromium and Gecko (Mozilla's one)
I don't know if you were exaggerating but are there any headphones that last 20 years (or close)?
I've been using headphones (lately in-ear) for 20 years and not a single pair has lasted me more than 1,5 years and I'm not especially rough to them. I usually buy in the 20 - 30 € (most expensive pair was 40€) and the sound quality is enough for me but their durability has always been crap
Cutting costs? How must is cost to add the jack on a phone? I reckon less than a dolar per phone. I think it has more to do with either following trends or artificially crippling some models so people will buy more expensive ones
Couldn't that just be solved with whitelisting? It's not an ideal solution but if you just whitelist the most common unicode characters and disallow everything else the situation would be better than just allowing legacy encodings
Well I've been pretty happy with the stability of Windows 7. OTOH my time with Windows 10 hasn't been nearly as pleasant.Microsoft are clearly getting worse even if it's just the QA
Yeah, the proliferation of digital game distribution services is getting bothersome.
Currently in the Epic one they're giving away a pretty well known game to entice people to install their downloader/storefront. I'll just concentrate on a few big ones and ignore the rest. I don't care if I'm gonna miss some games I already legally own more than I can play anyway.
Do they openly sell hardware with pirated games in malls where you live? Wow. You live in the US?
Here in Spain they only roughly similar thing I've seen is those small arcade machines that are popping up in many restaurants and pubs. They're running some version of MAME with hundreds of obviously unlicensed ROMS. I guess the owners of such games just don't care
Twitter doesn't censor porn altough an erotic cosplay model I follow said they shadow adult performers (apparently they're excluded from searches made from the Twitter page)

Did you buy a new Galaxy S4 recently? Where? That's a pretty old phone, I didn't expect it being sold as of 2019.

My 2017 LG is subtler: It only shows ads (one) when you go to the apps page to open one. Still that's one too many ads.

I'm curious? What others have you tried and what in your opinion makes Netbeans better?

Youtube not bothering to test on Edge? Rather they were doing the oppposite: Actively sabotaging it.
If true that's a major dick move by Google.

Yeah, stupid thing to copy, the notch too. Why do they insist on copying the worst Apple ideas?

Because it's not THEIR wheel and they think they can make theirs better and control its design.
Being serious I think it's mostly about control
