As one of the pre-teens reading comics during the late forties and early fifties (Including the horror stuff that was one of the things the busy-bodies complained about.) I think that foolishness alone proves congress has always been a pack of idiots unqualified to do anything but waste the peoples money on stupidity. The difference between the stuff published pre-code and afterward was obvious even to those of us with single digit ages. Even the mainstream things like Superman and Batman went to total dumb and boring while anything that might make you think was verboten. Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse were more intellectually challenging than the trash DC was putting out and the predecessor of Marvel mostly did terrible sci-fi hackery.
Really all of our national foundations seem to have been compromised by wiseguys who have figured out how to game the systems. Our legal system has become the weapon of choice for robbery by lawyers and our economy has been trashed by bankers and Wall-Streeters who have turned that system into a mega Rube Goldberg machine that nobody can figure out.
The rest of the world will probably put the US into quarantine to avoid contamination by our lawyers. We don't have any money left to buy anything from them anyway and who needs a nation of moochers.
It's probably just to generate more cash from fines since they can't seem to get anyone to bail them out after running the state into bankruptcy by trying to give everyone everything without anyone having to pay for it. Appears the state didn't have a viable business model just like all the Silly-con Valley operations that gave us the dot-bomb disaster a decade ago.
Our nation of sniveling weenies will shut itself down for fear some "evildoers" will get us. Hell, most of the rest of the world has been living with this kind of crap forever but in the last few decades Americans have become so scared of their own shadows we'll cheerfully submit to "Big Brother".
What happened to "nothing to fear but fear itself?" If the first settlers had been this chicken we'd never have got off the beaches of the Atlantic coast. No, we'd never have left Europe because sailing the ocean in a wooden ship is dangerous. And if there are any rabid Republicans here, don't try to put it all on Obama. The Bush administration used fear as a campaign tool.
What the heck. The Internet has already pretty much jumped the shark as far as I'm concerned so if I can't beat this I can save a few bucks a month and cancel my service. No more free newsgroups and the copyright/patent goons are trying to shut down anything free, even if they don't own it. Oh, well. I'll just sit back in my bunker (got it cheap from Dick Cheney) and wait for the total collapse of the capitalist system when lawyers finally make it impossible to conduct any form of business.
Actually I'm rather pleased with Windows 7. It's a great improvement over their last few attempts and other than a few spurious reboots right in the middle of several hours work and often requiring me to force the *&#%$ drives to re-mirror it's not toooo bad.
OK, I just use it on this box because there are a couple of programs I like not available for native Linux yet but at least it's not Vista or ME bad.
One of these days the foreign manufacturers will realize that America is broke and they don't need us anymore as customers since all we do is buy things with money we borrow from their countries and probably can't pay back. We will then revert to a stone age civilization since all our manufacturing has been exported to other places and the lawyers can sue each other for hides and buffalo dung etc.
In America, the votes that really count are whoever has the most lobbyists with the biggest bags of money. We common citizens just can't afford to by a bunch of congresspeople like the media giants.
It's not a "peoples republic", it's a fascist state. I still remember being declared an enemy of society by a judge in a loud tirade from the bench.
And I was just sitting in the audience not charged with anything at the time.
TV executives have had negative IQs since at least the 50's. (Check old MAD magazines for corroboration.)
To expect rational behavior from these idiots is itself a form of insanity.
I seem to remember from a chart on air pressure at various speeds for calculating wind loads on radio antennas that the PSI rises very fast from about 60MPH on. If you're pushing a barn door down the road like my full size pickup your highway mileage will be terrible no matter what but an aerodynamic vehicle like my old Corvette got well into the upper 20's running 80-85 even though it had a much larger engine. (Which was practically idling at 80) There are a lot of factors involved but it seems to depend on what the engineers were aiming at when the car was designed. One sometimes wonders if bad mileage isn't considered a bragging point among some folks since many European high buck sports cars appear to use about twice the fuel of say a Corvette of about the same horsepower even though gas prices over there are much higher. (And I do have an Audi, but it's a 2 liter TT Quatro which isn't very thirsty.)
