more like "Oh, your steamshovel has a broken cupholder? Here, drive this car instead."
If you really need the steamshovel, a car is not a replacement, but the vast majority of people just need to drive around, and a car is perfectly fine.
Analogy explained -- I can see why some people actually need all the shit MS Office has, but for most people, OpenOffice is fine... hardly a Ferrari vs Yugo.. of course, you got modded up by the "I'm cool because I don't follow Slashdot groupthink" people, who, amusingly, have their own groupthink... so there you go... I'll probably be modded down by the same people.:P
I might pick this up at some point, though I'll probably wait for the price to come down first.
I was throughly addicted to the Sims 1 when it first came out (4 years ago or something?).. for a few weeks. After I played it more or less constantly for a few weeks, it suddenly got really old.. the first expansion was okay, but after that they didn't seem to be adding anything I was interested in. Ah well, there are obviously plenty of other people who like it.
One thing I noticed... with a lot of games, I'll play them a bunch, stop for months, and then start them up again and have just as much fun... but I've never been able to get back into the Sims.
But if this is a truly *new* game based on the old idea, I bet it'd be fun again.
"cf." roughly translates to "compare", which I don't think is what you were going for the couple times you used it. Maybe try "q.v.". Alternately, just stick to English.
Then move to Maine or Nebraska, where the electoral votes *are* distributed more proportionally, or petition your state gov't to make your state like that too.
"I'm against Bush but I don't want to kill him or take down his server or rage about how he's a filthy liar. I just want people not to vote for him because he hasn't done a very good job."
If there were more people like you, I wouldn't be so anti-Democrat. I haven't been very impressed with Bush, but all the "ANYBODY BUT BUSH/NO BLOOD FOR OIL/OMGWTFBUSHSUX0RS" 'liberals' have completely driven me away from that side as well. While I will most likely be voting for a third-party candidate, at this point I'd rather see Bush win than Kerry, mainly because the Democrat side seems so horrible now. Then again, if Bush loses, the Republicans may realize that they're been moving in the wrong (IMO, of course:)) direction, and will re-shape themselves into a better party.
Bah. As the Aliens vs Predator trailer says: Whoever wins, we lose.
That goes not just for you, but for all your moronic Rush-loving friends.
What's wrong with Rush? Alex Lifeson is a hell of a guitar player, and you can't beat Neal Peart! Besides, I thought the stereotype was that the smart nerds liked Rush.
Yes, and Bush and Kerry probably like different foods, too.
Maybe they supposedly differ on gay marraige (though I think they're probably just saying what their party expects them to), but frankly I don't give a shit. In all *important* ways, they're the same.
Engineering courses at school help you learn how to solve problems better, but those were only 5 really helpful courses and then there is the rest of liberal arts easy A stuff:-).
This is a several-year-old book.. like the summary says, it came out in 2000. I read it a couple years ago, and I noticed that it said her actual website was "katiet.com", despite the title, which I thought was odd.
Now suddenly over 4 years later they're making an issue of it? Makes no sense, unless something is getting left out of the story. Lawyers suck.
...or not. Frankly, as a libertarian myself, I think Kerry would be worse than Bush (and that's tough to do, but the Democrats have somehow managed to find someone), so if I were to not vote Libertarian, I'd be voting for Bush.
Bet you want me to vote Libertarian now, proving that your so-called "reasoning" is really just "OMGWTFBBQ BUSH SUX0RS!!!11" in disguise.
Different 'sections' have different colors -- the "IT" section is new and is that BEIGE OF DEATH or whatever, this "Linux" section is new and is black, the "Apple" section was added a year or so ago and is Apple-aqua, the "Games" section was also added within the past year and is that horrible purple-black... most of the other sections have been around for a long time, and vary from "Apache" purple to "BSD" red to "Developers" blue.
Most of the other sections have the same "News for Nerds" tagline at the top, but apparently that may be changing, since the "IT" section says "It is what IT is", and the "Linux" one, as you pointed out, says "Don't fear the penguins". Both of which, IMHO, are stupid, but hey.
Slate, not Salon. Salon is more of a liberal-conspiricy whinefest with annoying ads. Slate is a little more diverse and owned by MSN.

They could care less.
So why don't they then?
Or did you mean "couldn't"?
don't download warez infested with virii, ...don't try to make up psuedo-Latin plurals that don't make any sense...

Star Trek IV was ... on Saturday night
;)
Looks like they know their target audience!
Kirk's Enterprise was built during a 'retro'-style period... they *could* have had flat screens, but thought the flashing lights looked better. ;)
"Democracy is the worst type of government, except for all the other types."
maybe the new Games editor will change the color scheme to something other than retina-blasting ultraviolet?
:)
seriously though, good luck at your new position, simoniker.
I wish I had mod points. Bravo. *applauds*
mod parent up!

...and the US is over 3000 miles long. 150 miles away is certainly "essentially on the coast" when we're talking about the whole country.
If you're going to get music illegally, why not just get it for $0 off Kazaa/suprnova/whatever rather than paying the Russian mob?

The fact that Jerry Falwell has the right to publish his sites in the first place chills my blood
Damn that pesky free speech anyway. If only we could just apply free speech to people we agreed with, then everything would be so much better!

Not all of us go to Bumfuck State College.
dammit... This is why I shouldn't read Slashdot at work while eating lunch -- I almost spit out my lunch onto my work computer.
+10, Funny to you.
ahhh... okay, makes a bit more sense now. it wasn't in the summary, how was i supposed to know? ;)
lawyers still suck though.

um, Columbus never thought he found something new, he thought he found east Asia.
Also, isn't a "dilusion" what happens when you pour water into another liquid? (Maybe you meant "delusion"?)
