Some were so bad they were good, like "Caber Toss" (from some Scottish Highland Games collection, iirc). It's weird the stuff you can find at yard sales...
...If the catastrophe is severe enough, it could take tens, even hundreds of millions of years for a densely-populated, replacement ecosystem to evolve. But it will, regardless of whether humans are still around to take part in it.
You can take that to the bank...
It's nice to read a long, thoughtful cited post, in contrast to the political shills & trolls that have come to sludge up/. Thanks.
Like "Smartphone" - is it really a phone that is smart, or is it a phone that makes one potentially smarter (if smartly used); or simply to make one appear smarter by their use of it?
No I'm afraid that it has been politically-correctly proven, as an eternal verity that words and actions can NEVER affect other people...except when the other side says or does something. Of course, the sayers and the doers believe that they are blameless. And then magic.
Don't even need to project anything. Just use two (or more) optical cameras and do stereo vision with them. Requires a bit of intelligence to match up the images, but the rest is just trig.
As to pedestrians, provided they are carrying an iPhone then it can tell the car where they are. And if they are not carrying an iPhone, not a problem.
...and if they are Androidians, just run them over?
I wrote my Republican critter about this issue.. his response was 100% political (even though my letter was focused on not trusting the monopolies to make changes to benefit the consumers). Freshman critter as well... I will vote against him every chance I get assuming the other candidate is at least somewhat competent.
The other candidate? You assume you can only vote for one of two parties? I've written in candidates more than once, I think I will do it more often in the future - and don't listen to those big-eyed experts who tell you that "oh you're just wasting your vote on a long-shot candidate!" It's none of their business what you waste.
The claim was that we need to find water on Mars to make it viable. The reality is that Mars has a lot of war, and a lot of it is fairly close to the surface, so it would be no more "mining" than a backhoe digging a trench. Pick your landing site correctly, and the water problem is solved. Frankly, water is the least of the problems for a manned mission to Mars. Getting there and back, surviving in a hostile environment with sufficient radiation shielding, maintaining a viable settlement for whatever the term of the mission (which surely is going to be at least four years round trip), that's the challenge. But water, if the right site is selected, that problem is pretty much solved.
Yeah, spoken like a true canal-digging Martian! : )
Oh, the atmosphere superrotates (60x); at first, I thought you meant the planet - that'd be cool! (243 earth days per Venusian day/night). And yes, I also think Venus should be explored more. Good read - across two posts! : )

walmart "forgot" to mention the picture on the box was only representative and not the actual product. Flag as Inappropriate
Video game cartridges of the 1980's. Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

I stand corrected - thanks! : )
It may be *you*, but with 2 electric vehicles and solar panels to power them, it isn't me.
Some of us have invested our cash to reduce our CO2 footprint. Some of us have put our money where our mouths are.
You got fscking solar? God - you know that causes cancer?!
So in order to preserve the traditional 24 hour day that is the foundation of our society and culture, we must destroy the Moon.
Yup. We must destroy this Harsh Mistress before she destroys us!
Damned cold-hearted orb.
"Then again, it depends how much storage you actually need."
When I googled this, all I could find was a 1 TB, 8-channel dvr, with a security camera set-up. OTOH, I only went through 2 pages of links...
Um, most of your post tells us why people like nostalgia. Light reminiscing with an old friend & beer is more fun, console or not, imo.
What drew my attention was ..."she checked up on her ex-boyfriend." Ha.
Or an electric needle, quick shot - and although some weeds recover from that, as the op said, just send the robot around sometime later.

Further back...Custer's Revenge. : |
"The people who provided anything insightful had left years previously."
Well, not everyone, it would seem; you posted some insightful observations... : )
Same here, for the same reason, except one time iirc - just curious to see what it would look like.
If CmdrTaco cared about Slashdot he wouldn't have literally sold out!
When you get married, and think about raising a family, sometimes you make choices that you think are necessary. RIP Roblimo. :(

Because YOU HAVE TO WORK TO KEEP A HOTEL IN OPERATION.
Or a golf course.
Or even a slum rental property.
But Mickey Mouse? The only work being done on that is paying lawyers to get copyright extended again.
Mod parent up, for 144 years. I wish my properties were maintenance free...
What was that old billboard sign: "Will the last person to leave please turn off the lights?".
Well now, if you had more Klout, I would know your handle! Heh.
...was going to get his name listed in the same breath as such nobility as William Herschel.
Not to mention a farm boy named Clyde.
But I have never heard of Klout.
Huh...Who?
