Is life really a series of addictions? I dont like that thought. I am very easily addicted, and I definitely dont enjoy it. Being addicted to _anything_ wrecks havoc in a person's life, simply because you are spending so much time/energy on the thing you are addicted to, that other things in life are neglected. What I really want to know : is addiction to substances any different from this kind of addiction (internet, games, slashdot)?
PS: I think i am an internet addict myself( over 15 hrs a day). Most of it lurking on slashdot.
I havent seen the lecture, but the story in some Pittsburgh newspaper (sorry, dont have the link - it appeared on reddit yesterday) is really moving.
Amazing, so 'close' to death but still in such good spirits. Sad that i came to know of such a great spirit when i know i wont be hearing more from/about him.
Sad indeed.
Sure they have released a 'final' version. But it is no different than the betas.
Heck, in terms of functionality it is the same as 1.5. Only thing they have bothered to change is the UI.

Well yeah, the previous gaim UI sucked big time. They have made some improvements, but not enough to qualify a separate version! This is more like 1.5.x.y
I use 2.0beta6 which is present in Ubuntu feisty. I couldnt find any new feature in the 2.0 version by reading the review. I dont think i am going to upgrade any time soon.
I cant believe that there is no jingle support yet. IIRC, google released a library for voice extensions to the XMPP protocol quite a while back. When is gaim/pidgin going to incorporate it - so that i can make calls to gtalk users? The other clients like psi, kopete have already done this - why cant gaim?

Not trolling, but was M$ ever 'relevant'? What i mean is, i always thought that M$ never did make any technology products anyways - they always cater to the non-techie masses.
I am a big fan of Paul Graham's essays, and have to admit that this one definitely ranks as the worst. Microsoft today has a lot of money - and i dont think businesses can simply die out in a few years, specially if they are not facing a steep downward slope. I mean, just look at M$'s profits/revenues (cant cite the source, sorry) they appear quite OK to me. I'll only start celebrating when they start posting huge losses, or when windows domination ceases.
I do slashdot 23 hrs a day and i'm fin &^!##(*!& NO CARRIER

This guy has reason to be miffed. Didn't he buy, what, 4 of those iphones on the first day or something?
Here is the good article describing the lecture, for those who cannot download the lecture itself.

Pfft. I am going to need this to install all the packages in the 12 cds of Debian Sarge.
>Voters are, by and large, stupid.
I have generalized this to "people are generally stupid".
How is this possible? Do that many people even have access to a computer?
'Course, BUGs are bad, arent they?
I'd like to know Eric Raymond's take on this. Isnt he on the linspire board or something?
So what does Eric Raymond have to say about this? Isnt he on the board of linspire?
Houston, we have a problem!
How dare you write this on Slashdot!? Emacs-Vi flamewars are all that we live for!

And some people claim Google is the savior of open source...sheesh.
Yes, its about time Google treated us Linux users fairly.
