Would you say there's a difference between "Thank you", "Thanks", or just nodding your head in thanks? Seems that the nod would be less respectful, as would be the "Thanks" - even though all are expressing the same idea. The abbrev. seems more like the lazy thanks or maybe just a nod, and less like putting out the whole phrase...

Not that it makes any real difference to me, but since Other Guy asked, I'm somewhat curious too.

Heck, the first "episode" of South Park was Jesus v/s Santa Claus. Beyond that, Jesus is a recurring figure on South Park - generally protrayed as being a whimpy normal person far from the image of Jesus a typical Christian would approve of. Of course, lots of people realize that it's meant purely for entertainment value...

Then there's South Park's portrayal of Moses, Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden, Pat Robetson, and a variety of other prominent figures held in high regard by *some* group of people.

Funny, the dual Athlon MP 2400s I'm typing this on don't sound like a jet engine. In fact, they're nearly silent. The Enermax case I'm using has a pair of 120mm vantec stelath fans on either end of a wind tunnel, and an 80mm Vantec stealth in the PSU ventilating the remainder of the case. It's 97.5F (36.4C) at the processor heatsinks, and there's more noise from the hard drive than the fans.

It's not like one can passively cool a high-end dual core CPU - which runs hotter than a single processor. So fans are needed either way for this sitution.

Despite what the article says, all that is needed is for someone to mount a disk drive and run a batch file. It could be as simple as one line calling xcopy for each file type (pdf, doc, etc.) running a loop from A to Z for the drives.

There, fixed it for you. Except that it'll still get every file, instead of reading the contents and determining if there's anything potentially useful inside, and looping from drive A to drive Z requires that you have every network share mounted locally. Never mind that if there's something in A or B that's secret, it might be easier to just take the floppy out and bring it with you...

To take your example and run with it: If your Christianity is relevant enough to you that you feel compelled to bring it up in an argument, then it's important enough to the argument that your points could potentially be invalidated by that belief. If you don't want someone misjudging you by, say, your religion, then keep it to yourself. Some people manage to still be Christian without trying to a) tell everyone how much better they are because they "chose" the popular religion and b) bringing it up at the drop of a hat. Some other people get really annoyed when someone feels compelled to volunteer their religious affiliation under irrelvant circumstances. Some of those people are also Christians, surprising as that may be.

So, if you feel that something is irrelevant to the discussion, maybe don't mention it? God won't send you to hell just because LogSplitter929 doesn't know you're Christian.

Regardless, you're choosing to be offended. I'm a Christian (the kind that believes in science and respecting other people's decisions, not the irritating preachy kind that capitalizes personal pronouns inappropriately). I don't give a damn if someone chooses to ignore my points because of that. Meh, it's their loss - there's no reason for me to be offended that some idiot is, in fact, an idiot. I might be a little curious how the other party knows that, because there are only a few posts on /. which might make reference to that particular religious affiliation (counting this one), but I don't choose to be offended by that. Some other things offend me, but it's not like they *have* to offend me - it's pretty much my choice. Just like it's pretty much your choice to be offended by someone's inability to look past irrelevent facts (such as religious affiliation).
