You have over 300 million people to do the counting...figure it out.
I am a little disappointed at this since up here in Canada I have always admired how ingenious Americans are.
I realize that this is what may be driving your quest for a different voting solution however, with something as important as this wouldn't it be better to stick with a tried and true solution?

This horse has been beat to death so many times I just can't believe it hasn't sunk in yet.
Up here in Canada it doesn't take any longer to count the ballots on election night than it takes in the U.S.
I hear so many people spouting the same old crap about how the U.S. has 10 times as many people and therefore 10 times as many votes blah blah blah without thinking about how stupid this sounds. You have 10 times as many people!!! Use some of them to count the votes!!! I mean use just a little bit of imagination here for crying out loud!!! Living next to you guys and getting to know you a little bit for all these years, I can honestly say that this kind of excuse is simply...unamerican
Regarding the comment about cheating on the vote count I again shake my head. Cheating when counting votes can happen regardless of what system you use. What makes the difference is the paper trail which brings me to my next point. Paper ballots leave a clear paper trail. How much more accountable of a system can you get!!! One piece of paper = one vote...plain and simple!!! And in case you thinking that what will stop anyone from just throwing a bunch of extra paper ballots in the can...you make it so a part of each paper ballot is torn off by the voting booths staff. If these tear aways dont match the number of paper ballots then someone is cheating.
I simply don't understand how something so simple can be made to seem so hard!!!
Chads
Long history of people cheating them (While the current system sucks, a combo of electtronic + paper if properly done, can double our chances of catching fraud)
-> How can a documented paper trail increase chances of fraud?
Takes too long to count.
-> There are 300M people in the US...figure it out.
Takes up a lot of space.
-> 5th largest country in the world...figure it out.
Costs a lot more money.
-> Money well spent.
If someone is removed from the ballot, we have to reprint, which may not happen in time
-> We all need to meet deadlines...figure it out.
Delivery must be assured with enough to all, which means a lot of waste
-> Again...deadlines, deadlines, deadlines
Blind people have issues
-> It's called braille
People that don't read english have issues
-> Adapt an official language or 2...I would think the US of all countries would be the first to figure this out.
Ballot design for large number of possible candidates - people seriously want to be the guy on the top of the list, it gives a small, but real boost to their numbers
-> Luck of the draw...too bad so sad...deal with it...its called life.
Oh wait, you just wanted ONE issue. Hm. Hard too choose just one.
They also need to rebuild or retrofit their aging communications relay stations.
I don't think we are even remotely close to sending humans to Mars. Something as simple as leaving the protection of the Earths radiation sheilding is something you rarely hear talked about however, it's a major hurdle to overcome.
i say colonize Mars first...then think about Mars.
I would like to add that channel changing speeds to a STB might not be acceptable for folks that are channel surfers rather than folks that record all their tv and watch it at their leisure.
In addition I would like to mention the following:
1. if you are using a STB channel changes can be a little on the slow side.
2. MythTV will not allow you to start and stop recordings as you wish...recording is tied to the EPG.
There is only one problem with MythTV...it is a slave to the EPG.
MythTV does not allow you to start and stop recording as you wish...you are forced to record the entire program that was in progress at the time you pressed the record button.
MythTV does what it does very well however, it is not the be all end all PVR/DVR as it is made out to be.
...I doubt it...there are too many good people involved with MythTV.
Is it a serious problem to be overcome...yes, because EPG reliance is one of MythTVs biggest flaws. Without an EPG, a MythTV box is pretty well useless.
Basically, the MythTV community does not have a choice in the matter. Either find a work around or the MythTV project is dead in the water.
During my time in engineering school I had to design and do the layout for a half adder. I used Spice for the design. I could not remember the name of the silicon process layout system we used but it was an extremely specialized system in a locked lab. After finishing and testing the half adder it was possible for any one of us to send the project file to a company in Montreal to actually produce a run of chips if we so wanted.
What I am trying to get at here is that the lines between the design and manufacturing process are very well defined. Outsourcing the manufacturing process shouldn't affect AMD's chip quality at all...in fact it may improve it.
It is very possible that this is an inovative move that no one has simply thought of doing before. There should be no reason why it won't work well.
...Vista is just another Linux distribution.
Buying Novell was the first step in establishing IP claims on Linux.
The suits have already arrived to take away Linux...we just don't know it yet.
This of course won't stop those of us who really know how Linux came about...but when Microsoft is done they will have the masses believing they invented it.
Just my 2 cents.

Everyone on here is talking like music is a durable good of some kind while it's not. It's more of a commodity than anything and should be priced according to it's demand.
MP3's have given the record companies the perfect medium for doing what they have been trying to do for years...commodify music. They just haven't been smart enough to realize it yet.
As far as CD's are concerned...leave those to the audiophiles who will pay top dollar for sound quality.
...does that make it all better?

What made you think that creating a utopia in space is possible?
I like your line of thinking.
An optimist...strange. I didn't think there where any left.
Look...to put it bluntly, I don't think the human race has any chance to creating any kind of utopia here on earth. Space is our only hope.
Sorry...my bad.

Channel changes are generall faster on STB PVR's thus better suited for surfers.

Not sure why anyone would want to run WMC over MythTV but to each their own I guess.
Like one of the other posters mentioned, there are some sharp looking case solutions out there for a MythBox however, the price is another thing.
Spending up to $1000 on a nice looking case to find out it doesnt do what you want can be disappointing.

Even though your post sounds absurd...it makes sense consdering that its the U.S. Such backward thinking...a shame.
...Microsoft has enough Linux IP claims to start his quest to make Linux a Microsoft invention.
In 5 years joe user will bet you a beer at the local watering hole, that Linux was invented by Microsoft.
I mean Micosoft has already invented the computer and the internet right...what's one more thing.
I may just be trolling here but can anyone verify that Vista is not a Linux distribution?
Just my 2 cents.

Buying Novell just sealed the deal for Microsoft to lay claim to any Linux IP.

I think this is already common practice.
I think that everyone on here can agree that successful CSS hacking is a constant.
Wouldn't this mean that CSS is not CSS at all and is actually just being billed as CSS?
Makes me think of the phrase "Legend in his own mind".
