  1. Re:Rent is Too High on America's 'Rent Crisis' May Be Ending (fortune.com) · · Score: 1

No landlord is going to charge your LESS THAN THEIR COSTS, unless they are truly dumb

    Their "costs" are :

    1. interest payment on their loan,
    2. principal payment on their loan
    3. maintenance
    4. property taxes

    Their benefits are :
    1. Increased property ownership (equity)
1a. It is a benefit in itself as once you own a property it is difficult to get kicked off it.
1b. Future rents (even after the mortgage is over)
1c. Future price of the property itself - (even after the mortgage is over). Useful in case they want to sell, or have to sell due to a contingency
    2. Rent

Since parts of benefits are speculative and some of them will most likely arrive, it totally makes sense to collect a lower rent per month than current costs for a few years.

The prefix "a" means "without". A-theism. Literally "without theism".

Aside from what the AC said - etymology is not the end of word knowledge. (A-theos)ism is an ism that is about a without-ness of god. A(theos-ism) is a lack of an ism about existence of god. Word coiners didn't consider scopes of their prefix a- or suffix -ism : so it can be used in both senses. If you want to be clear, be clear instead of harping on a single word. Not only can it be used in both senses, it is, if you read the literature.

Both gnosticism and theism effectively describe the same thing - religious beliefs and religious knowledge

Highly mistaken. In as much as gnosticism refers to religious ideas, God (and similar entities in different religions) is neither sufficient nor necessary for a religion. Original Buddhism was an atheistic religion. Clearly it was not agnostic, because it had religious ideas. On the other hand, belief that there is a God but doesn't ask you really to do anything particular is a largely held belief. This is a theism mixed with agnosticism.

Gnosticism has also referred to spiritual knowledge, not just religious ideas. In that sense too, it is compatible but not inseparable with theism.

There are far more people in the world who DO NOT use your ISP, than who use your ISP. So in that regard, your ISP's control over you is complete and unfortunate, but has a much lower bearing on the world.

But there are far less people in the world in the world who use internet and use NEITHER Google nor Twitter, than who use at least one of these. So Google uniting with Twitter can cause more censorship in the world.

Of course, if all ISPs unite, they could do even more censorship, but I hope that is not the context you see here.

  6. If Trump and co were capable of understanding science and were open-minded enough to realize that there is a lot of money to be made developing green technology they would be cheering science on, not desperately trying to hide and/or ignore the truth of it

Are you trying to suggest Trump wants to make America great again ? If so, please provide evidence.

Glass design has many more complications than just showing off servants, amount of glass, fashion. The "experience" changes completely with glass - the uninitiated drinkers will say the wine "tastes" different in another glass.

The mechanism from what I understand is that the gases around the surface of the drink enter your nose while drinking and people can't distinguish easily between the flavour experienced through the nose, the flavour experienced from within the mouth, and some other aspects of what they call "taste". These gases change due to the shape of the cup - e.g. the gases are blown away more easily from shallow , wide glasses filled to the brim as compared to those in deep cups which hold the gases for longer. The color / transparency / texture of the cup / glass also has a significant effect that cannot be random variation - I cannot find any reason directly related to the taste / smell subsystem of humans other than, of course, the brain.

And when I say this, I am not even a wine snob, most of my experiences have been with tea. I discovered to my own disappointment that cup shape and color are changing how the tea "tastes" for me even after having clinically consistent ways of making tea. After that, I have conducted placebo controlled experiments on people - and can conclude with reasonable confidence that the "taste" of wine as well as tea changes significantly with the container one drinks it out of.

This is, of course, only my own research. Professionals are testing it with more rigour, and selling their findings mixed with more bullshit - so you might find them more interesting.
