Agreed.. my first thought was instead of this.. why not those windup LED jobs.. I bet theyre about the same price and as long as you can wind, you can have light...
When I was 19 I worked at a pawn shop. After working there for 6-8 months something (I don't know what) happened and everyone was lined up from 3 stores for polygraphs. We were let know in no uncertain terms we would lose our jobs if we failed. I was so nervous that I bombed miserably and got fired. I had done nothing. Polygraphs are simply a way to kick you in the nads and see what responses they get.
Stop being so competent. They probably won't give you a raise, might give you a new title, but assuredly will continue to pile on work until you stop doing it so well. Blow a few deadlines and hose a couple servers. If that doesn't help, get sick for a while.. gotta be careful and stay just useful enough not to get fired, but dam man.. keep it up and you will be the whipping boy for every management brainfart until you crumble. Be careful about scattering resume's.. when that gets upwind its all downhill... especially in a company who appears to believe you're bought in. Stop The Insanity and take it a little easier.. seriously..
I would like to see a graph with ugly vs money on it... I bet you could be hella fugly with a stack of cash and beat the hell out of the sentences of the broke beautys.
I live 10 miles from a city of 140 people. I am 22 miles from 2 other small cities and 100 miles from any metro area. When I tell you most people go to church and wave as you drive by it is real my friend. It really does exist and it is sad that you can not even imagine it.
You seem to think that because the Bush's were from Texas that we all got in line behind them. Most Texans didn't then and still now do not want govt up their a**es.
I live in rural Texas. What you have here is a buncha people who are independent and are tired of government encroaching on civil liberty and forcing "help" on us. Personally, I am an atheist (actually Buddhist) but yes, I am a minority as most people still go to church on Sunday, help their neighbors and actually wave at you as you drive by. For the most part we believe in personal responsibility and feel that you should reap the benefits of your work as well as the consequences for your actions. To paint the generalization of all Texans as nutjobs is a slap in the face to these hard working people who for the most part just want to be left the hell alone.
And as a metric, try placing any standard US players would place on a game vs what say..Japanese or Koreans would place on a game... its that subjective enjoyment variable that can't get quantified..
What it is WORTH is what you can sell it for. The VALUE is the enjoyment you get out of it which is purely subjective. I was a game *freak* for over 10 years when I realized almost every hour spent pushing A A B A A was an hour of my life sucked away for ever. I sold over 400 games and every system I had and now spend that time doing things in the real world. That has more value to me than any game ever could, but then again, thats subjective.
I think we could probably go a lot longer if places like the University where I used to work didn't just hand out "real" IP's on their DHCP for a full Class C. I cringed every time I thought about the security issues of having a "real" IP for every PC on campus. Who also wouldn't allow firewalls, even Windows firewall, because it would impede their port scans.. sigh.. but I digress..
It smells like they painted themselves into a backward compatibility nightmare using a lightweight solution to what now needs to be a heavyweight security application because of its widespread usage. Anyone standing behind javascript as a security boundary on a compiled app is pretty much insane imho..
I saw a documentary a few months ago where the Chinese had secured much of the lithium (as in batteries) mines and were negotiating in Bolivia if I remember correctly for their undeveloped resources which apparently are enormous.
The problem here isn't China hoarding up the resources.. imho, it's our next quarter mentality.
After being in this industry since the 80's I don't believe in "Internet Privacy". I also have serious doubts in PC privacy if you are even hooked up to a network or the internet. It may go against the grain here, but I believe if you are on the web, you better be ready for all the data on your pc to be fully visible to someone somewhere. Imho, the only secure data is the data sitting on the pc in the corner not connected to the network.
This is the only way to end it. Walk away. Just freakin walk the F away. You don't need the Jonas Brothers latest POS, you don't need Brittany Spears latest wtf.. If you do, pay the money and take your beatings and stop whining about stealing the dam stuff and getting caught.
There will never be a law change where you can steal someones work, distribute it to the world and not face repercussions unless it is specifically allowed by the owner.
Maybe a jillion dollars a song is too much to pay for the infraction..ok.. but none-the-less it will always be wrong and there is no other answer.
Get it into your head that as long as you consume this mess you feed these bastards and the system that supports it.
Just put in a screen somewhere in setup for the EU to do whatever they want and give them an api/hook to do it with.
Browsers, textpads, calculators, media players, games..hell click start, then programs on any fresh windows install and see all the monopoly going on there that need ballot screens...
If there is any bias in the courts there, it's that they love to see the poor guy win the lottery and the big corp take it on the chin David Vs Goliath style. Being any kind of big or out of state company suing someone in East Texas without a dam good reason will probably not end well for said company. Unless of course there's some money carelessly forgotten somewhere..that's a different story...
Every time that word comes up it is in some insane context of someone trying to get rich off the backs of other people. Would someone tell me why we can't just let everyone copy off everyone else and whoever has the best implementation (and marketing I suppose) gain the profits and go on..dam..
So I create the greatest doodad on the face of the earth that no one else ever thought of.. put it together in a crappy implementation, poorly market it (which is more than most patent trolls do) and my version dies a sad lonely death.. then someone else COPIES with my idea, implements it well, markets it well and makes a zillion dollars.. I get my beatdown for being stupid, the people who do it better get the money and the general public enjoys a better product.. besides the me me me gimme money me me of this. where is the freakin problem?!?!?
But.. but.. globo-megacorp will steal all the ideas..
Yes.. if globo-megacorp can do it better, then maybe that's the way it should be.. or maybe, just maybe.. little guy could figure out how to do it better than globo-corp.. hmm?
Think of how much money in every purchase we spend is because of the patent stack of BB's on every piece not to mention the litigation associated with it.
Now think about the amount of innovation that would be achieved if everyone had the resources of everyone else to build from.
I have a very small business. I set up Google Apps and use the entire collection of services.
First off, I have found that it does not provide the same stability as Gmail. It looks the same, but is is definitely not the same. We have uptime issues, cross-cookie issues with igoogle and gmail and it is generally not as stable as any other email solution I have used including Exchange.
It is worth about what you pay for it.. we are under 50 accounts, so it is free. If it cost, I would pay $30 a month to a web provider for all you can eat email and be done with it.
The answer is.. if you want to do it, do it. Don't wait for people or schools to feed you the answer.. make a game. Get kicked in the ass by each problem, overcome them, figure it out and simply do it. I suspect you dont want to be a game designer or programmer if you are asking this question and have never lifted a finger towards making a game, you are really looking for someone to hand you the answers on a platter so you can enjoy the Rock Star life (music, not developer/game company) and you will find it's not really like that. It's more like hell in a handbasket 20 hour days and thank God its over when you finish... just to go thru the hell again.
When ya get a few thousand cows stomping around in their shit all day long eating things they were never meant to eat and getting injected with cocktails of chemicals.. tracking them really doesn't seem like the problem to me..
Agreed.. my first thought was instead of this.. why not those windup LED jobs.. I bet theyre about the same price and as long as you can wind, you can have light...
$15 is likely a month or more salary in most undeveloped countries.

So basically, they can't afford the books no matter what is in them till 2013. That's good stuff right there, don't care who ya are.
If Ive learned anything from the 20-30 sites Ive done with Joomla, its that nothing with Joomla is painless.

Nothing is free and if you use their services, your privacy, at least in part, is the cost. If the price is too high, go somewhere else.
