to have an infrastructure that isnt ruled by the almighty lobbyist and can provide actual support for technology and **smacks hand on forehead** plans for the future. Ill take twisted pair and cable for the loss Wink.. sigh..
Seems like if they can ignore the patents then the should also be allowed to ignore the arbitrary pricetag associated with whatever it is and sell anything they want (not to the US of course) for any price they choose.. a penny a copy for some nice industrial strength Enterprise software would wake up a few people..
Really.. we can bubble gum and tape this thing, open 5 browsers and set up firewalls till the cows come home, but when you have no control over the network, you are always at the mercy of the first hop.
IMHO, anyone who thinks there is Internet Security is deluding themselves. If its that important, walk away from the computer man..
Seems like there are in general 2 kinds of people buying a PC/Laptop.. those with a clue, and those without.
For those with a clue, we either build em ourselves or we walk through the wizard picking our options. We should be able to click Firefox, IE, Opera or whatever flavor browser the distributor feels good with, or None if we want, or all for that matter as we go through the setup to buy wizardry.
The clueless should click a box that says I dont know.. feed me what you like.
Why should it be different than say.. Mcafee/Norton? It shouldn't.
The REAL problem is the unclean masses not knowing what an OS is.. imho. It IS NOT the pretty you see on the screen. It is the underlying foundation. Windows explorer, network neighborhood, the "Start" menu.. all NOT OS.. but ya.. MS and Apple too I suppose have waved their hands and tada.. there is no OS without GUI and since we have GUI.. how about we GIVE you all these applications so no one else has to bother making any..
Wheres the increased cost here? You build it, it's practically self contained and surely requires less maintenance, etc than other sources like coal.. wtf? Wheres the extra costs come from?
A long time ago, I worked in a pawn shop. Somebody got a wild hair and decided everyone had to take polys to remain employed. They were looking for previous thefts, nothing specific, just if we had ever taken anything in the past.
I needed the job badly and I was terrified, being only around 21 or so at the time. I never took anything and I failed miserably because when they asked if youve ever stolen anything I was so nervous about setting it off.. right.. I set it off apparently. I got fired, no recourse.
I came to realize polygraph tests are more about seeing what happens when they kick you than getting at the truth.
After the reviews, investigations, and all the freaking hoopla about things falling on the shuttle during take-off, please tell me why we are having this discussion.
If we cant keep chunks of stupidity from falling and breaking things, maybe we need to figure out a different way to launch the thing..
I wandered across a pretty spiffy net radio site.. Ill spare the site from slashdottedness.. and thought to myself, well, theyll be gone soon. They offer low quality free streaming and high quality paid streaming around 15 bucks a year. I decided to see what the EULA said and found it was all based (at least company-wise) in France. If I recall correctly (which is a stretch) I recall France being very liberal with online music and formats and whatnot. I would think more net radio would just wander to more hospitable countries since its not the US internet but in fact World Wide.
Then of course its up to filtering, which I wouldnt put past our government.
Ive read quite a few of the responses here and most are screw us, its too far to go and other it aint gonna happens.
Unless I missed it, I didnt see the obvious solution.. it would seem much more technologically feasible to just stay here. Not that it would be easy, but from a sheer technology view making it work here even as the sun expands and encompasses the earth and then shrinks back up would be a lot easier than figuring out how to span light years and hunt for our next-earth needle in the galactic haystack. Without some serious magic (like breaking a few laws of physics, etc..), I dont see us going anywhere that would really make a difference considering the scales we are talking about.
Stay out of the way of MS and Sony's schlong war and whatever theyre doing, do something different. Oh yea.. and laugh all the way to the bank as they scoop up the 98% of everyone who isnt a hardcore gamer.
Since I bought a 42" TV that supports 1024x768, I havent been on a "Desktop" since.. wireless trackball and keyboard in a recliner beats hunched over at a desk any day. I do have the wireless laptop bit for wandering the house, but right now, the TV/PC is my main station.
I am so dam tired of seeing public interest sold to the highest bidder. (including payed for legislation) Look around.. everything that should be for the public good is bought, monopolized, and ends up milking the public. I dont even read the articles any more.. I just figure out who has the most money or who has paid the lobbyist the most and that decides the issue. Follow the money and you will find the answer. I guess thats capitalism. Yay.
I remember when you actually had a choice to the tcp stack.. but since WIN 95 I think.. maybe earlier.. MS rolled it up into the OS and I begrudgingly accepted the fact they now control my traffic. I thought anyone who had a clue assumed MS knew everything about you and your PC.. Greedy company:check, complete data control:check, connectivity:check.. what did you *think* they'd do?
Since the terrorists wont be stupid enough to be fingerprinted, once we have everyone's fingerprints, those that are left MUST be the enemy! Brilliant!
Im land line free as well, and for the same reasons you listed. The only problem Ive run into is that people you owe money and utilities want phone numbers for records and account retrieval.. and eventually you run the risk of having those same unwanted calls on your cell phone.. and let me tell ya one thing.. if telemarketers made me mad on the land line.. on my cell its *really** gonna make me mad..
I agree and I squeeled like a stuck pig on my xbox forum of choice when I learned of no Hard Drive option in the 360's.
I think the decision was made for a few reasons. First, I think the Hard Drive was what eventually bit MS on the rear towards the end of XB1 as far as cost. If I remember correctly (maybe not) that size drive went out of normal production and was expensive to include as the lifecycle ended. Also, besides the tard pack low cost option, I think they made the decision to up the RAM instead of including the Hard Drive which all the developers loved at the time.
If this continues, I think we will see Hard Drive only games become more prevalent, however, it makes ya wonder how Oblivion can be so vast and not be dragged down w/o one as well as recent games like Crackdown which is massive and is even in the same type genre. Im leaning towards lazy devs and not the system holding them back.
Its funny how we get an ARS link to some nobody link (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/ps3/crossfire/news-5307.ht ml) to a story about some exclusives moving and none of those pages has a Sony source link. Im sure its in the bowels of Sony somewhere.. I just find it interesting that the breadcrumbs dont lead to the house I guess..

Raises hand.. guilty.. (thank you Opera)

Who's there?
Denial Of Service Attack
Denial Of Service Attack Who?
We dont know.. we dont log that stuff..
"Please grow up and take responsibility for your actions."
Hahahahahahahah, whew.. where have *you* been?!? 1950's?
We dont do that here so much any more.

OK.. I guess Ill not listen for a few days.. musicovery.com
I am in no way affiliated with them.
The only prob I find is their application (flash) hanging every so often.. but youll see its worth their novel approach.
Let the server overload begin..sigh..lol
This is the solution to this insanity on so many levels..

Netflix answer to bring it in to the store is streaming vids.. watched one the other night and it worked pretty well.

When I first said the letters in my head.. it immediately made me say/think decease. Cease and DCE *is* better I guess.. for them..
