Seems like there are in general 2 kinds of people buying a PC/Laptop.. those with a clue, and those without.

For those with a clue, we either build em ourselves or we walk through the wizard picking our options. We should be able to click Firefox, IE, Opera or whatever flavor browser the distributor feels good with, or None if we want, or all for that matter as we go through the setup to buy wizardry.

The clueless should click a box that says I dont know.. feed me what you like.

Why should it be different than say.. Mcafee/Norton? It shouldn't.

The REAL problem is the unclean masses not knowing what an OS is.. imho. It IS NOT the pretty you see on the screen. It is the underlying foundation. Windows explorer, network neighborhood, the "Start" menu.. all NOT OS.. but ya.. MS and Apple too I suppose have waved their hands and tada.. there is no OS without GUI and since we have GUI.. how about we GIVE you all these applications so no one else has to bother making any..

A long time ago, I worked in a pawn shop. Somebody got a wild hair and decided everyone had to take polys to remain employed. They were looking for previous thefts, nothing specific, just if we had ever taken anything in the past.

I needed the job badly and I was terrified, being only around 21 or so at the time. I never took anything and I failed miserably because when they asked if youve ever stolen anything I was so nervous about setting it off.. right.. I set it off apparently. I got fired, no recourse.

I came to realize polygraph tests are more about seeing what happens when they kick you than getting at the truth.

I wandered across a pretty spiffy net radio site.. Ill spare the site from slashdottedness.. and thought to myself, well, theyll be gone soon. They offer low quality free streaming and high quality paid streaming around 15 bucks a year. I decided to see what the EULA said and found it was all based (at least company-wise) in France. If I recall correctly (which is a stretch) I recall France being very liberal with online music and formats and whatnot. I would think more net radio would just wander to more hospitable countries since its not the US internet but in fact World Wide.

Then of course its up to filtering, which I wouldnt put past our government.

Unless I missed it, I didnt see the obvious solution.. it would seem much more technologically feasible to just stay here. Not that it would be easy, but from a sheer technology view making it work here even as the sun expands and encompasses the earth and then shrinks back up would be a lot easier than figuring out how to span light years and hunt for our next-earth needle in the galactic haystack. Without some serious magic (like breaking a few laws of physics, etc..), I dont see us going anywhere that would really make a difference considering the scales we are talking about.

I agree and I squeeled like a stuck pig on my xbox forum of choice when I learned of no Hard Drive option in the 360's. I think the decision was made for a few reasons. First, I think the Hard Drive was what eventually bit MS on the rear towards the end of XB1 as far as cost. If I remember correctly (maybe not) that size drive went out of normal production and was expensive to include as the lifecycle ended. Also, besides the tard pack low cost option, I think they made the decision to up the RAM instead of including the Hard Drive which all the developers loved at the time. If this continues, I think we will see Hard Drive only games become more prevalent, however, it makes ya wonder how Oblivion can be so vast and not be dragged down w/o one as well as recent games like Crackdown which is massive and is even in the same type genre. Im leaning towards lazy devs and not the system holding them back.
