    If someone refuses to pay, just don't DDoS them and move on. It's not like your reputation for following through on threats is on the line, you're a secretive criminal.

    Try the Myst sequels maybe? To my knowledge there don't really exist any other game quite like it.

    Fair enough, if they have the sense to make it so that the default is ON. Lost connection somehow, sensors not responding for any reason? It lights and stay lit.

    Still too failure-prone. What if the sensors are responding but buggy and they actively tell the signs to be off? A major disaster requiring evacuation could cause all sorts of things to go wrong.

    The most robust systems are usually the most simple.

    Once in the days of Windows 95, I was working on a Word document while browsing the web, and 4k of HTML was somehow dumped in the middle of my .doc file. Word would no longer open it so I had to use a hex editor to extract the text and re-format it. A common FAT32 driver bug, apparently.

    How often does your typical web surfing, middle class consumer see a CPU usage above even 10%?

    When I load a large slashdot page in Firefox, my CPU usage shoots to 100% for several seconds.

    Using WEP encryption is like using a cheap-ass combination lock that can be broken with a single strong pull. Sure the lock is next to useless as a security measure, but it does clearly communicate that the owner didn't want anyone getting past it. "The lock was so shitty I thought it was public property" isn't going to go far in court.
