    IIRC, they said their Ghostscript software was used as an "integrated component". This means under the GPL license, that the software it was interrogated with should be available to the users/owners/renters of the machines. Note, the Ghostscript software does have an commercial license that Diebold Election Systems did NOT buy. The Ghostscript people maintain that the Ghostscript software was distributed on/via the rented/leased voting machine in other words. Tim S

    I agree algorithms and breaking up a big problem into little problem (top-down) are what should be taught. Teaching programming is not a good Idea in HS. They could add a start on Discrete Math if they wanted a little harder course than just algorithms and design methods just using English like top-down http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-down Tim S

    I think it is an issue of redundancy; to have the ISS just depending on the Russians would be an issue. Now, I think they could have looked to the "arianespace", but I think Buy American is back into the default way the US Government does things. Tim S

    That would be ... inconceivable.

    I think most of the /. posters have the inconceivable problem. conceive means to become pregnant with (young). As in conceive a child. The 'in' prefix tends to mean not or opposite. So, inconceivable could mean not being able to conceive a child. Tim S

    The USA policy is that we will respond with Nukes if WMDs are used against us. If botnets are WMDs who are we going to bomb with an Nuke! We are going to bomb no one; therefor they are NOT WMDs. Any sane person who thinks they are WMDs should be fired or put in jail. Because they are inciting the use of Nukes on the nation attacking the US. Tim S

    Look, any programming tool requiring 50M of virtual memory to run Hello World is just wrong. And don't say peep about memory being cheap and such -- I'm talking wrong on general principle. Morally wrong.

    Finally, a possible cause of global warming I can fight against. Note: using all the extra memory must increase the temperature of the computer; I know it is likely too small to measure, but so what. Tim S

    DNA is encoded information written by God; it seems to me that the DCMA should protect this information. So, who's going to sue the Cops for violating the DCMA. And, can I copyright/trademark/patent my DNA to file additional violations against the Cops. Tim S

    Retired Air National Guard; Do you know what the ANG and Air Force Think of people who jump out of perfectly good air planes? Tim S. PS: I think one thing i will say as an older programmer is that I am willing to maintain and upgrade code. To many of the programmers I met, in a small IT dept of US500 company division doing Microsoft PC Apps/WebApps, were of the type to say I did not write this old code and since I do not understand it; it must be bad code. Therefore, we need to start from scratch.

    "a complete catalog of terms" is not the problem. The problem seems to be that they used her material to define the terms without the proper use of source citation. Fair use implies that some new materiel is being added and you can tell difference between old/sited and new materiel. Tim S

    I would like to have get reading on the Solar Radiation in Space compared to the surface. And, what is reflected upwards measured at intervals above the ground. But, I can not find the studies doing what to me is obvious Scientific Research. I am guessing it has some special term I need to search under to find the researches, but all this saying the matter is settled science, the talking is over, makes me think idiots(Managers, Politicians, etc.) and not Scientists are in charge.     Until not long ago it was not thought that anything escaped a black hole, now we know different.

    That theory for radiation of energy from black holes is decades old. I think it was even before the predictions of Global Cooling went away and was replaced by Air & Water Pollution (Acid Rain, etc.) Now for some reason Air & Water Pollution is being over shadowed by excess CO2 production. I think Air & Water Pollution is the more important thing to fix. But, Nuclear Power will help to fix both. The Church of the Left has pronounced Nuclear Power to be an mortal sin. I call it the Church of the Left because facts do not matter to them, only what they believe counts.

    Indiana supplies at no cost to voter IDs, but no idea if locations are friendly to non drivers. Tim S. Note: Various groups have helped people get the Free ID card needed to vote.
