They seem to be idiots, currently campaigning because the filtering seems to be blocking 'esoteric' sites. As far as anyone with any sense can make out, its either a typo, and should read 'erotic', or a deliberate substitution by the Open Rights Group in order to drum up support within the pagan/alternative communities.
The best tribute I can think of is that some people get a country mounring for them, a few get the world... for Gary the flags will be lowered in worlds without number...
Sysinternals created some really useful stuff, I agree the guy may be making improvements but its MS marketing thats giving him the script now. Vista wont ever be really secure until MS totally rework their approach to OS design and its default install. The problem is its mass market mostly consists of users with less than average technical know-how and thats why so many compromised systems are out there. If it was secure by default then viruses and malware wouldnt be the huge problem they are now although the tech support overhead would be higher.
I think the connection is obvious.. its the problem solving exercises in D&D and in IT makes both genres appeal to the same type of people. Plus there are one or two users where I wish I was Belkor...
I wont even consider buying a new machine with Vista bundled, its not worth the hassle. If I want Windows at all then patched 2000 or XP will do fine. Otherwise*BSD or Linux from scratch.
I can see the point of the article, ie add-on services, but I agree with a lot of the posters. I only need a phone to send/receive calls and text. If I want to know about news or my calendar or anything else then I use the net.
I think thats the point of it, its patented.. Microsoft is devoting lots of time to patents because it feels threatened by Open Source. It doesnt matter that anyone who knows what they are doing will work with the formats they know work for them. Microsoft will appeal to the masses of people that buy off the shelf boxes preinstalled with whatever MS want, then simply wait until those customers flood the net with their formats, forcing others to adopt them as well. Thats when MS get a return on the deal. In a way its good business sense but I wish Microsoft would spend as much time making their products work properly with already agreed standards as they seem to do creating new ones that nobody wants to follow.
I think thats the key phrase, flagrant violation. Most of the outsourcing companies use non-compete clauses and its sometimes hard to find work other than with another outsourcing company. If I started my own outsourcing company or poached the previous companies customers then I'd definitely be in flagrant violation, simply working for another outsourcing company, while in literal contravention of the contract isnt outside the spirit of the agreement.
I agree, CSI and other shows always show perfectly equipped labs. The investigators always get the evidence and the culprit is always caught. I did some support at UK police stations and the truth is they just dont have the kit, I doubt the majority of US police departments do either.
Same here, except in my case it was more like 33 years. I loved it and made all the projects available then went on to buy parts and create my own. Lead me into Ham radio and eventually IT. Just reading this takes me back a long time. I'd definitely buy one if I wanted to get into electronics its a good basic grounding.
Its just absolute bullshit ...

Kansas is an interesting choice, its one of the prime areas for cattle mutilations. Perhaps the Feds are trying to make life easier for themselves.

The whole place is too complicated now anyway. I long for the early years of simple searches getting direct results.

I bet that means the IAO has their project running properly now so they no longer need to use Google Logs ...

I was browsing earlier and saw a report that its just cosmetics, making it more slimline and lighter.

I've been using /home for some years just to improve on security
