I was wondering what would be the chances that the federal government would commandeer the supercomputers at the national laboratories in order to break an encrypted message they thought was crucial to their antiterrorism crusade. Anyone?
ever consider how tough the Democrats have made it to do business in this country? No wonder everyone's leaving!
I have been thinking this every time I browse clothing in the stores./me checks the label: Yup, "Made in Honduras". I bet Honduras is part of the NAFTA policy.

"Nano"-anything is today's buzzword. The science research funding situation is such that anything to which you can attach "nano", the more revolutionary hence fundable your idea will sound.
The only difference with this new system is that you won't need as many cashiers. You'll still need someone to take and change cash and to see that things go smoothly.
Grocery stores employee a lot of cheap labour (read: teen-agers) in the US. It would save the employer some money at the expense of, I suppose, the older, permanent staff of being overworked. Especially this time of year when department stores have their seasonal/holiday hiring.
I agree with you Pt, but I don't think it is overly fishy. It could be as simple as an implied threat to discontinue purchasing from MS, who will in turn have to consider how much revenue they will lose.

There's a serious side too. The studios are certainly learning about how to render bit oriented images and animation. Comments about Shrek and Final Fantasy IIRC were mainly about the fine-grained details of the characters' motion, not about the coarse-grain level as you suggest. (I haven't seen Scooby Doo because it didn't interest me.) Animation will continuously improve, which is definitely a good thing.

Advanced in that you can clone a parition instead of the whole disk? Yeah, that's useful. But as the docs point out, partition image requires an already existing partition to write to. g4u doesn't seem to care about what is on the target drive; it will just overwrite sectors.
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I am just about to install a cluster, so instead of installing RedHat for the nth time, I can make all the nodes' disks off-site -- and probably while unattended somewhat -- and then bring them in, pop in the drives, and go.
Rather than use the obvious external bar code, they could instead encode customer information using steganography/digital watermarking in the security lining of the envelope interior.
There is another way to look at it: Consider that the bodies that we call the inner "planets" are simply moons of Sol as it revolves around the galactic center.
Well, one distinction I can see is that your permission to rob a bank isn't yours to give in the first place.
But fraud? Yeah, basically, but I think there is the chance for a range of meanings here, legally speaking (IANAL) -- defamation of charcter by misrepresenting you, for one. At the very least, this EULA sounds like nasty way to collect addresses for spamming.
Naw, just add a clause saying that the user, by accepting this EULA by clicking 'Agree', furthermore gives his consent not to draw into litigation or otherwise defame the character of the entity or entities responsible for, or the representative or representatives thereof, or any subsidiaries thereof, the aforementioned EULA, in perpetuity.
I thought I heard once, in an episode, that the TARDIS can detect the presence of the being attempting to gain access and can deny access. (hmmm,/etc/sysconfig/firewall/TARDIS.conf... but I digress.) However there are also counter-examples, such as the Gallifreyan guards entering with a master trimonic key (Invasion of Time).
I don't think the new XML format is meant for documents you wish to publish on the web.
Just being curious here and not a troll, I thought mozilla supported XML. Take a look at this page, where it appears that XML style sheets can be used to impart some BibTeXian features to information perhaps meant for the web. It looks potentially very useful.

I blinked. When was the beginning? Hasn't satellite radio been bigger in Europe? It's been only one or two months now that I have been hearing ads for satellite (on AM/FM) in the US.
Yes, of course, you are right. Gosh, my phrasing was horrible. My motivation was not rooted in egotism. Really.
My main concern with F@H and S@H is that their central question is not based on a falsifiable hypothesis. These projects are basically open-ended or exploratory searches. It could very well be true that there exist(ed) alien civilizations, while at the same time it can also be true that we may never detect them. Resource after resource can be put into something whose progress you really cannot evaluate. Still, neither project is entirely in vain because it can produce some results, information, or guides for how to proceed. With such projects, obtaining any single positive result is remarkable.
I dunno what it takes to install much less finance a root DNS server, but seeing as how important Toyko's server is, wouldn't it make sense to introduce another root server? My guess would be in Asia, perhaps Taiwan. Or is the threat of Taiwan being invaded putting a damper on such a plan?

Yup, that notion occurred to me also.
Libraries have been using technology like this for years in books to prevent theft. Sometimes there are false positives though.
