Interpol (international Police), have a list of websites that are known to be the worst of the worst child porn websites.
All DNS is in a central registry
somebody must have paid for the website to exist
follow the money trail to who owns the website and who hosts it
close down the hosting service (should not be too much problem here, International Police, and yes i know they do not have jurisdiction all around the world, but for areas they do not, they have sufficient political connections to be able to create political pressure), not just the site, the whole hosting service.
Arrest the people who are responsible for the site (Domain name owners, site hosting company).
Put the responsibility on to the ISP's that host.
If you own a bookshop and you sell pr0n, and someone comes to your shop and offers you to sell CP, you are expected to say no and report them to the local police.
So if you are an ISP and you knowingly host CP, why should the law be any different, you are an accessory (and a rather vital one).
Yes it would get messy in regards to what you can be legitimately be expected to know and not know about your customers sites, and yes some websites get hacked.
But the point is , they have a list of sites, they have also a list of who is hosting these sites, and they can trace who owns the site, so in real terms, what is the problem.
The reality is that for interpol to chase these people costs a lot of money, and apart from the occasional big news "child porn ring busted, 5,000 arrests in 6 countries" there is not much 'aren't we wonderful' PR for the politicians, where as here they can say publicly "look at what we are doing (think of the children)"

A spokesman for Senator Conroy said: "We are still working through the details of the voluntary arrangements with the ISPs and details have not yet been finalised." ......It is understood Telstra was last night still grappling with the decision as to whether to commit to the voluntary filter because of fears of reprisals ...... because of Canberra's support for an internet filter on CHILD PORNOGRAPHY.

So its only child abuse sites and no others and has no relationship to the set of banned websites that they were talking about before when they tried to ram it through parliament as legislation, nup, no connection at all, honestly, really, I mean, we all believe what Rupert Murdoch tells us in his loyal newspaper don't we, I mean he is an honest man and would never try to colour any facts would he, see he's told us many times in the same article , its only to do with child abuse pornography and we're all in favour of stopping that aren't we, I mean think of the children, and it would never ever be expanded to cover anything else that this or any future government doesn't like would it ........

or three years later when the organisation running 'the truth ministry' has to go cap in hand to (insert name of favourite hated corporation here) for sponsorship

or 5 years down the line when the government of the day doesnt like a particular 'truth'.

and so over time 'the truth ministry' of our time becomes closer and closer to 'the ministry of truth' from '1984'.

Its not that i dont trust our politicians now, (alright, I dont), but i trust even less politicians to come.
Truth is dangerous, especially to politicians, and government departments.

and the less the general public know of the truth, the better as far as all concerned in government believe. (Wikileaks anyone ?)

so if anything like this was set up by a government, even if it had all the best intentions at the time of instigation, it would slowly be corrupted until it became merely another avenue of government spin.

and would you trust it if it was set up by a corporate committee funded by 'Coca cola, Microsoft, Texaco, Union Carbide and Johnston & Johnston ?'

  11. Re:Copyright lobby won't let this stand. on European Court of Justice To Outlaw Net Filtering · · Score: 1

Okay, lets get a few things straight here.
The record companies do not give anything away.
When you sign a contract with a record company, you are signing an open ended loan, which they can recall at any moment ( 30 days notice is common, but 14 days notice is not unknown ) , the purpose of the loan is to cover the costs of recording, promoting, and distributing your 'product', It also covers the cost of your first visit with stylists and the 'signing party' which includes any and every freeloader who can get close to the bar.
This loan is ostensibly to be paid from your earnings from the 'product' release, your earnings are the small percentage left over after the record company takes its cut for Promoting, developing, printing, designing and distributing your 'product', and any other expense they can think of to add to this.(CEO's second mistress needs a new car etc).
Many years ago they would sign an artist or band because the said artist(s) were attracting audience through live performance and showed potential to sell albums and possibly more than 1 single per album.
    Those days are long gone.
Now they are looking , not for artists, but for 'products' they can sell (notice the shift from music as a product to performer as a product).
They are not really interested in developing song writers and musicians, because that takes too long.
Every song must now be able to be marketed as a single in its own right, but it is easier to market a performer (not a musician) than a song.
and if the performer starts to get too big for their boots, or starts to develop a mind of their own, well, cut them loose (and demand the repayment of the loan on the shortest terms you have written in to your contract.)

There are many musicians out there who are brilliant who will never get the chance to release an album through a mainstream label, because the expense of developing them as a marketable commodity is too much.
it is easier to find another brittany or taylor who will prostitute themselves in return for stardom, and the end result - PROFIT !

And if I may add a small note here.
I am a sound engineer with many years experience, my first words to many bands who complain that they are not getting a fair chance and not attracting the audience they 'deserve' is, what makes you different, why should anyone come to see you rather than another band / artist ? (and please note the word, 'SEE', most audience members will not take a lot of notice of the music until they have 'seen' a band 2 or 3 times, and it is the performance of the music that will get them back)
If you as an artist / musician / band can create enough audience interest then you can release your own music and people will buy it. convince more people to buy it and you can fund a better quality recording for your second release. and sooner or later you can deal with whatever is left of the record labels (if you wish to) , on your terms.

Driving a car is not a right, it is a privilege that we earn by passing the licence test.
We agree to the terms of this privilege as part of our agreement to sit for the licence test.
the terms are quite simple, there are rules that must be followed to ensure that the most numbers of similarly privileged people can utilise the roads (and footpaths)at the same time.
From then on this privilege can be withdrawn from any person who does not follow these rules.
I personally don't mind being pulled over to have my breath tested, because i know that the fact that the cops do this stops some of the idiots from drinking and driving, and catches some more.

Most could not wait to get rid of them, some even paid out their contracts early to get a (and I will quote their words) "get a phone that works".
Even the Phone salesmen I know, who were told by their bosses to use them to sell them in the shop, soon bought other phones (with their own money) to use when they were not at work.

With a customer satisfaction rating of Zero, you are starting on the back foot when it comes to marketing a new product.

Whether or not it is a better OS than previous ones is irrelevant, whether or not it is better than iphone or android is irrelevant in marketing terms.
Whether or not a potential customer will believe it is better than the earlier train wrecks is important, and although windows 7 is better than Vista, that is not really saying much, and for many people the promise of "Vista is better than everything before" is still in their memories.
