Sure they can get in, but speaking from experience (I turned 17 this year), often times the only option is to buy tickets to other movies. Tarzan tickets will skyrocket, but the Tarzan theatre will be empty:)
If the programmers of VMWare makes a sufficiently better product, people will pay for the software. This is the way capitalism works. If the Open Source (TM) community creates a better product for a better price without stealing any code, there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, as more code get contributed, other programmers can learn and create an even better product. If you want to go to Winblows, fine. You make a lucrative enough product, and M$ will develop a crappy version of it, and integrate it into Windows, then make agreements with other hard/software companies for proprietary standards and exclusive support of the M$ product. Then all development either stops or slows and you are stuck with a crash prone, bloat infested, piece of software. Just my 2% of a dollar.
I camped out, skipped school w/ unexcused absences, walked in to take a test I couldn't get a 0 on, and then drove back to the theatre to wait some more (my mom held my spot). Some people have camped out for > A MONTH!! But, yeah, RALEIGH RULES B/C 12:01 IS HERE FIRST!!!:)
Erik
P.s. The camping out RULED. I would definately recommend it. A TON OF FUN!!!!!!!!!

Just called the Raleigh Grand (the major theatre down here) and they said they aren't allowed to rent out theatres for SW. Oh well:(
Check out gore's web site at www.algore2000.com Then view the source. Besides a really corny and patranizing message, he blatently infringes of the copyrights of ColdFusion, Java, Linux, OpenSource, and I'm sure some others. Gues "trademark" isn't a hip buzzword:)
VA has plenty of competition. Dell, IBM, (does compaq bundle linux?). Everyone is rooting for the first to back Linux, thats all. And the buying of Mandrake isn't gobbling a competitor, one's hardware ones software. Just my $00.02
Though Mozilla has been disapointing, as JWZ mentioned, there have been successes:
1: Lessons learned. All the reasons mentioned in the article and JWZ's page will hopefully be heeded in the future by corporations.
2: More importantly, build tools. Bugzilla is cool. The win build tools were worked on.
There are other positives, but before everyone rags on Mozilla, reflect. Minix never took off, Linux did. I wasn't around at the time of Minix, but the lessons learned from the OS prob. helped Linux. There are predecessors to all great projects, and if the lessons from Mozilla are heeded, hopefully the next company that goes OS will be better.
When RMS wrote the GPL he wasn't looking to accelerate acceptance so much as protect his software. A great example is Linux. If Linux were released under a more flexible license, it's extremely possible that a corporation (read: MS) could take the code and develop it under a proprietary licese. Should that version become widely accepted, it could kill the entire movement. Plus, besides practical purposes, the GPL does alot to draw attention to the ideology behind the GNO/Linux movement. On the other hand, a company developing the code in a closed source way would be an interesting test between them and open source developers on which model is superior. Interesting, but not necessarily good for the community.
I agree there are always idiots who write too fast and think too little. I agree that anyone in any public (read: leadership) position must be able to take their share of flames. But we as a community also *must* mature. Though we get things done, how much more could we accomplish without internal strife? Anyone remember when scoop took freshmeat down? Every couple months there are serious problems over these issues. Thank God scoop brought back freshmeat, but we can't afford to lose sites like that, or advocates like Raymond. Though we are still getting code written, we could be doing **so** much more!
I plan on at least getting an admission pass. Living in raleigh though, I wonder which theatre we could rent out. I remember the ZOO when the origionals were re-released and that's nothing compared to what its gonna be. I guess that's the way it is everywhere tho.
(1) It would be a perk for moderators. So what? Those who help out get favors. Airline pilots and stewardesses fly free. People get free products. Perks are part of a position. Get used to it. (2) Has the thought that those guys *might* be interested in helping Rob out occurred? In Open Source(tm) software, the effectiveness comes in sharing the work load. What's wrong w/ applying this to/.?
I'd just like to say that I consider this to be an AWESOME idea. Also, an area where moderators could discuss stuff about moderation (though I guess these pages suffice for now). The moderators could weed out the bad crap so he Rob doesn't haveta waste time w/ it. Kinda like (but not really) old co-sysops on BBS'. (Remeber those? before the Great BBS AKA Internet was formed).
While I agree with your idea concearning open source documentation, this book is probably copyrighted and I doubt it's an Open Source(tm) compatible copyright (I don't have the book so I don't know this for a fact). If it were posted for free online, I'd be the first to send in whatever corrections I could find. But this is a for profit book. Correcting is the job of the editors, not the users.

Tough sh*t! If your a decent programmer, it shouldn't be too hard to find a job (look in any classified). And Gates wasn't talking about the OSS community moron, he was talking about piraters. Completely different! You can't put food on your table coding? Then you must not be very skilled. Ask the guys at RHAD if you can make money writing free code. Erik

Yep, actually from what I've seen the book looks pretty good. Therre's a /. review of it somewhere.
Erik
I stand corrected :) I am unfortunately not a biology expert. Oops.
