Around thes parts, Oregon City is the generally accepted end of the trail. There were actually two routes to get from The Dalles to Oregon City. You could go the river route, but there used to be some fierce rapids at Cascade Locks. The other way was a toll road that ran to the south of Mt. Hood.
This is Mercer Island, man. You know, the island where Bill Gates lives? It's chock full of rich white folks. They aren't hurting for cash, I can tell you that.
They have enough money that they can afford to have a toy radio station for their kids. If they can afford that then they certainly can afford to move their radio station to the educational allocation of the radio dial (assuming there's a place for them, there).
There's always AM, like all the other High School stations...
All of the problems that I had with FC2 had to do with initial installation. I suppose if you simply 'up2date --upgrade' you'd have bypassed most of the shoddy work. I suspected that some of the problems I was having with it had to do with the new kernel, but mayhaps not so much as I'd suspected.
I'm going to try doing a FC1 install on my machine, then doing a distribution upgrade using yum or up2date, and see if that fixes things.
There must be a patch you guys are missing or something. I tried this one too, and had no problems bringing up info. You do your slash, the little "slash-command" interface pops up, and I write an "i". No problems.
Well, you must have a defective T3, because I have no such problem, even when following your explicit instructions. Is there an update you may have missed?
I write, and yes the "l" does appear, but when I cross-stroke to make it a "t" it does exactly what I'd expect and erases the "l" replacing it with a proper "t".
If more people were politically active and aware, instead of playing computer games all day, maybe we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.
And then again, maybe we'd be in an even bigger mess. Maybe we'd have invaded China by now. Maybe Mexico would be an American Territory. Be careful what you wish for, and try not to be so elitist, it's beneath you.
Freedom of speech does NOT mean Freedom from responsibility. You are free to spout whatever opinions you'd like, but you'll be held accountable for them, just as the founding fathers intended.
Of course, all of this is moot, because Slashdot isn't the US government and hasn't passed any legislation restricting your speech. That's the only Freedom of Speech I know of in the US. I suppose if one doesn't bother to read the Constitution, one is free to expand freedom of speech to include whatever one likes.
Americans, particularly teenagers! Know your Rights! Read your Constitution BEFORE making yourself look like a moron in a public forum!
PS As a long time/.poster, I don't feel that the Anonymous Coward system is particularly valuable in defending my ability to speak my mind. I'm as anonymous as I choose to be already, as are most/.'ers. I have no problems whatsoever about taking flak for some of my opinions. I could care less if the AC system never came back. I think/. would be stronger for it.
You can imagine how many applications are messed up by this.
I've yet to see one. Please cite your sources while making outlandish claims. I could come up with a thousand hypothetical situations that would "prove" my points.
Graffiti 2 sucks, but not because it breaks programs, AFAIK.
the freenet site say that paypal promised them to send a check - however, if you read those stories about paypal scamming you will say that paypal has a nice record of unkept promises.
Ahh... written with a vagueness that defies any counter-argument. And the best part of all is that chuckleheads modded kVanQue up to "informative" when all he did was to repeat heresay with NO link to this implied preponderance of evidence mounting against PayPal. If it's common knowledge that PayPal is evil, then those that slam it don't need to cite their sources, apparently.
The question I pose is this: If kVanQue's statement above is such common knowledge that he need not support it with links or anecdotes, then how is this "Informative"? Surely restating common knowledge isn't particularly informative, now is it?
As interesting and true as your observations about problems with headphone jacks are (I've had to re-solder many, many an 1/8th inch jack in my time), they have absolutely nothing to do with the design flaw of the Ipod Mini.
If you read the article posted (the one with pics), it explains that the problem isn't with the jack itself, but with the connection between the daughterboard on which the jack is mounted and the motherboard. There is a rigid connection between the daughterboard and the mainboard instead of a flexible ribbon, and this rigid connection is where the flaw lies. As the mini case flexes its aluminum case (as is hypothesized in the article), this rigid connector works itself loose from both the boards and the other connector. Even if resoldering would fix the problem, it would simply re-appear after more movement.
It's an honest-to-God design flaw, not just shoddy soldering/mounting.
This loophole doesn't exist. If you look at the GPL, it states that a written offer for the source code must exist that offers the entire source to any third party to eligible to receive it, i.e. someone receiving a binary copy of the software.
A ROM is merely a storage place for a binary file. By distributing software on ROM, you aren't exploiting any hole at all in the GPL. The hole is not there.
If you were to buy a piece of hardware with GPL'd software on it from E-bay, you would have to be extended the right to the source from the one who originally modified it.
In your example, Company Y would be off the hook, but Company X would still have to provide the source to those who owned the devices.
Luckily, the police were on it fast, got the stuff seized, Gamestop fully cooperated.
That's the HUGE difference between what you did and what she did. She went to EB and said "that's my stolen stuff" according to the article. You went to the police. She bought back her items instead of going through the due process that is required to regain stolen property.
If EB were to hand out every piece of software/hardware that someone walking in off the street said was stolen from them, they'd be out of business right quick.
I recall reading a study that showed that Doctors with good bedside manner received far fewer malpractice suits from their patients than those with poor social skills. I apologize for not providing a link.

Butt-ugly,
Wow, two separate independent comments used the phrase "butt ugly" in different contexts to describe two different facets of Neuros' device and web site. Methinks this is rather telling of their [Neruros'] priorities and style.

There's a nice interpretive center in Oregon City you might be interested in.
I did see in the educational row at Best Buy, Broderbund updated the old Oregon Trail game.

In the latest, we get the assertion: "I am a libertarian who believes in strong IP rights."
Does ESR have the slightest idea what the term "lbertarian" means?
Oh, so in order to be Libertarian, you have to follow the Libertarian rules, and agree with the party line 100%?
Please check yourself, you're working awfully hard to make Libertarians look stupid.
I guess Bill thinks it's time to slow the worlds fastest computers to a crawl. Apparently they aren't crashing enough, too.
Gotcha. I thought you were doing a lookup by company. It was doing exactly what you said just trying to set up the test cases.
OK. I stand corrected. Again, hopefully this whole situation will be mooted soon, with G1 being free of patent hell.

My Question is this: If I'm on Mars, will I have to wear a tinfoil hat to keep the people on Earth from reading my mind?
This is news?

It's much older than that. I have an ancient (read 1996) All-in-wonder that did this.

Yes, I am flaming the tinfoil hat crew.
That's right - solve the problem with legislation.
Actually, isn't it illegal to watch TV or videos when you're driving your car already, in most states?
Why is this any different? Slashdot lawyers: Start your rants!
