For what it's worth I like my satellite radio. I use an XM MyFi. It was the first portable XM... the one with Elton John in the commercial. It's great for me... I especially like that I can go anywhere with it. I very rarely have signal problems. The only problem is it's biggest asset. You just don't have to worry about stocking the music. Which means you don't stock the music. Eh... there's no perfect product.

I must be the only person who likes subscriptions.

I currently have a satellite radio. I justified the purchase because it's cheaper than an iPod and just as portable with my music.
But I've started growing tired of changing channels all the time hoping to find music I like. Since I'm already spending 10$ a month on a subscription I actually like the thought of a Zune with an Urge subscription. I've not used either product so who knows how it really is... but I like the idea.

I agree. When growing up I never used Fax machines. According to their logic there is nothing beyond the here and now. But wait... what's this? I use a Fax machine quite regularly now. You use the tool that best serves your purpose. You example of "c u 2nite." That serves a purpose; and when these kids need to get some serious work done they will be more formal. Assuming these kids will not change their communication style would be akin to my trying to write a legal document in a conversational style. That would just be silly. Conversational style is not the right tool for the job.

I have to agree. Personally i would prefer to have some firewire than 3 Lan ports I won't need. Or built in wifi or bluetooth. hell, fibre channel instead of so many ethernet ports would make more sense.

  8. Re:Cost on Floating Wind Turbines · · Score: 2

Granted wind turbines cost a lot now... but if they are being made in plants powered by wind turbines and the aluminum plants making the parts are wind powered. Yes... I know aluminum uses a metric ass load of electricity (yes it's a legitimate measure of electric current). Uncontrollable and unpredictable? The damn thing is going to be 80 meters tall. The blades' lowest point will be 20 meters above sea level. Aside from the fact that this is the North Sea and the wind levels are rediculous, have you ever gone onto an observation deck in a skyscraper? Winds above ground level are almost constant. When I read that comment I read it as if you're thinking they can spin out of control and overload electrical grids. I really hope you're not that dumb. There are limiters that restrict the blades from going too fast.

No mass-market innovation will EVER come out of the government. Superficially, the Internet appears to be an exception to his rule... You sir are an idiot. I can't believe you're being modded as insightful. What about polarized sunglasses, insulation, cordless power tools, the smoke detector, LEDs, infra-red thermometers, better golf balls, and that's just the space program. If you want military let's include jet engines, rockets, GPS, satellite communications, mature broadcast communications. The list goes on and on and on.

  11. Re:Bwa?? on Bill to Bring A La Carte, Indecency Regs to Cable · · Score: 1

The indecency is a broadcast regulation not a cable regulation. No matter what channels you pay for you are always going to get the local broadcast channels because of the "must-carry" rule. Aside from that, broadcast stations can be picked up without special equipment (how a TV in and of itself is not special equipment I do not know). Because of that broadcast is regulated. Broadcast is seen as a guest of the public airwaves and adheres to community standards. This is very stupid and antiquated to me knowing the cable and satellite penetration numbers. Sorry if that's convoluted. TV and Radio regulation gets me feeling all ranty.

I think that's the name of his book he published back in the early 90s. Pretty much he predicted the past decade perfectly. I don't know if predicted is the right word since it's his products that he was saying would come out in the next ten years. I guess he's just a really bright guy with a strong ability to estimate the market and development time (Zune not withstanding). He was only off on hardware. He over estimated somethings (credit card sized pocket PCs as powerful as a tower) and underestimated (sheer volume of online gaming)

I've noticed that the people who take notes in multiple colors do the worst. They spend so much time swapping pens, keeping to their format, and stressing about what the teacher is saying that they miss the information.
