A wire screen tends to block EM with a wavlength greater than about twice the size of the holes in the mesh. Since the visible spectrum is in the few hundred nanometer range, and most RF communication happens at wavelengths over 5 centimeters, a screen is a very viable option.
And you think the insurance companies don't like that too? They win both ways. If you didn't have a lock you weren't practicing due diligence and they don't have to pay. If you did have a lock and it was indetectably compromised, they get to argue you're trying to pull a scam and they don't have to pay.
Locks are to honest people honest, and keep insurance companies satisfied. The finest safes are only rated by how many minutes it will take a determined theif out.
Would you care to elaborate on that? I remember Dad doing PCB layouts with both mylar rubylith and mylar tape on clear mylar sheets. These days of course, he uses CADint PCB.
I don't think that magnetic tape was involved in the original process at all. As Chris Burke said, the masks were layed out with colered tape on a drafting table. When they were completed they were photographicaly reduced to the size needed to be transfered to silicon for etching. My father used to design printed circuit boards the same way.
DC and AC both have their place. DC is good for short-haul power distribution, but if you short out the lines you'll destroy the entire power run. AC doesn't do that anywhere near as bad- which is why electric power is distributed as AC- it doesn't have the same safety issues and it can be transmitted long distances without major losses as it's being transmitted down the wire, not conducted.
AC can be transmited long distances without as much loss because it's easy to use a transformer to step it up to 30KV or so. For a given amount of power (E*I) if you operate at a higher voltage (E) you will use a correspondingly smaller current (I). Smaller current means smaller resistive losses (I*R).
It's just not nearly so easy to step-up or down DC.
What about games that actually are free? There are quite a few of them out there. Do for-profit game publishers have a legitimate beef with them about how they impact demand and profits?
They are NOT entitled to profit from that demand. They are entitled to TRY to profit from that demand, and they are entitled to decide the terms they will offer to satisfy the demand. Nobody is obligated to agree to their terms, but if they don't, no game for them.
I would never argue that anybody is entitled to pirate games. I will say that the whole idea that "piracy is killing PC games" is overly simplistic and denies the obvious fact that video game demand is highly elastic. I haven't bought a new game since BF1942 because new games cost around SIXTY FUCKING DOLLARS.
The lack of 'flatness' is exactly what makes the picture misleading. It makes it seem as though the POV for the image is exceptionally close to both bodies.
They both orbit around their common center of mass, as do all pairs of orbiting bodies. The moon and earth actually orbit around a point 4700km from the earths center.
Isn't it amazing how well the artist's impression clearly and realisticly show that the these objects are separated by "six times the distance between the Sun and Pluto"?
So why aren't they saying "criminal behavior"? I find this increasing use of "anti-social" to describe undesireable acts disturbing. In my view it makes criminal acts sound more trivial and at the same time covers such small thing as sticking your tongue out at someone or as vague as "being weird".
I see the use of the "anti-social" label as a tool of creeping conformism and eventual totalitarianism.
A faraday cage does not need to be conected to an earth ground. In fact a lot of electronic equipment uses the cage/shield its self as a "ground".

latchkey kid.
I thought professional thieves ran for public office.

There is still some debate as to whether a computer simulation of a woman can be called a "girlfriend".
Now show me whre in Europe there is a population density comparable to Nevada, Wyoming, or Montana.
It may exist, but there is very little observable evidence for it on this planet.
Any response from Bob yet?

Claiming you have a relevant and authoritative title and citing (indirectly) wikipedia is hardly a convincing technique for arguing on slashdot.
How do you think that integrated circuit design was handled before it was done on computers?

True, but has anyone ever made a coherent argument that they own or are entitled to a particular level of demand? Serious question.

I'd rather have no picture than a stupid one. Ignorance is easier to cure than wrongness.
Wow I really hosed that link.
Let's try again.
