  1. You have to take into account that this isn't a unique situations. If billionaires start dumping all of their dollars they could tank the whole US economy. They don't do that because it would be massively against their own interests, just as it would be against the whale's own interest to tank Bitcoin, they are the folks who have the most to lose in destabilizing it, and are going to do everything they can to stop that from happening.

    The massive costs they have been incurring have been because of interference from the incumbent players. They got bogged down for years in some places trying to get permission to install their fiber on poles. They ended having to trench a good bit of the fiber, which made the costs skyrocket.

    They just need to dodge long enough to get automated vehicles up and going.

    Then they can fire all the people and this problem goes away.

  6. The cable industry is really devoted to the "force people to use a shitty service" model.

    If they would start offering services that people actually wanted for a price they are willing to pay they might be able to turn things around, but everyone in big content seems to be really against that idea.

    The real problem with removing the 3.5mm jack is with headphone durability. If you use earbuds a lot chance are you wear them out at intervals. When you have a 3.5mm jack and you drop a bud in a glass of water, you say that sucks and go buy another cheap pair of buds.

    Yup, non-story really - Facebook manage to screen all of their photos and images (admittedly its not pre-screening), and they do it on a much lower payscale than this bloke assumes.

    Yes, if only YouTube would get on board with the exploitation of impoverished people (like what Face book does in its screening program). The world would be a better place.

    This is not the death of the encyclopedia, just the ending of an inefficient costly format. Who goes to their site and ops for the $1,400 print version over the $30 disc version?

    But proprietary media formats have worked out so well for Sony in the past. Every time I go to the store I take a look at all the betamax tapes, mini discs and UMDs, and think man where would we be without these.

    I think you are confusing this with being a tetrachromat (the opposite of being color blind), that is a trait that only women can. However; being a tetrachromat does not allow you to see a greater range of frequency (like into UV or IR) it just lets the normal range of colors be detected with a greater granularity.

    My current PC, with optimized 4th gen SSD on an SATA3 controller and windows 7, boots in 20sec. That is from pushing the power button to having a totaly usable machine. I am very happy with it and honestly don't think I would care if it was an faster. I push the button before I sit down and by the time I am seated and have my monitors turned on, it's ready.

    The sandy bridge "Extreme" is aimed at the ultra high end enthusiast market. If you are building one of these rigs you are not going to use the stock cooler. I think this is a good move, it will keep Intel's useless stock coolers from sitting in my closet for a couple of years.

    Even Microsoft can't just come around and remove your computer. If they wanted to forego sales to people who don't have internet though then there would be nothing wrong with that; you'd just have to use a different OS.

    Yes, you would need to use a differant OS, or in this case play a differant game. That is the point of the above coment. You would not buy an operation system that would not let you use your computer when not online, why should you fork out your cash for a game that behaves like that.

    What does perjury or court have to do with it? This was an unreleased document, I didn't see anything about this being used in court. If you're going to use legal terms that don't apply, why not say this would be treason (if music piracy, it's effects, and this report were a matter of national security.)

    I believe what was trying to be said here, is that in a place where they have strict rules about what constitutes a lie (A court of law) this would qualify.

    The two most common tents in use are the "Alaska" and the "Base-X" both of witch are constructed of two layers of synthetic fabric separated by an air space. The air space is there just to increase the insulative value of the tents.
