Half the time. Good I will be able to get a job faster, or spend more time learning other subjects that interest me.
Half the money. Have to work less, pay off loans faster, fewer things to worry about (bills?).
Half the collage experience. GOOD. You're not at collage to drink and get STD's, you there to learn, get an education, and to prepare for the rest of your life. If you want an excuse to party, just drop out and let the people who deserve the job you think you're qualified for get it.
I'm just thinking how often, if it's even legal, for a company to go out of its way to jeopardize a companies IPO.
Take for example if MSN and or Yahoo! a few days before their IPO date if they filed (one or many) lawsuites for copyright infringement, IP reasons, SCO attacks because of licenses etc, or any number of things specificlly to bring down there sales of stock.
Would this affect the interest that investors would have in the company? If so how much?
About 1 1/2 years ago, a company (not sure which one) was sending people to different (small) business's in Minneapolis Minnesota. Most of the businesses were non chain coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants. They basically said that they would be fined if they were playing music if they did not have a subscription to digital radio.
Just about every place I used to go to had to switch, because no one wanted to get fined., or fight to defend their rights to play music in their location. Some people did try doing different things, like playing music off music channels on cable, but for the most part, no more local bands, no more local music, nothing but mainstream music off digital subscription.
It will happen in your city soon if it hasn't happened yet, it worked so well in Minneapolis, im sure they will force everyone onto it.
So the data will all be in one centeral database, but each state will have software that will only allow them to access information about people in there state?
I wouldnt really call that secure (any more secure then it all ready might be) if the only thing keeping states from viewing other states data is a few pramatters in the application.
What they really should do is have each state have then own databases, that way, when one of them gets compromised (cause it will happen) only some data will be taken, not all.

Big update in next few months in the cvs

Yes its not here now, but it sounds like slashdot will be XHTML compliant soon.
If you dont like it, fix it, public CVS. Dont bitch, change it your self.
I can understand your point, but the fact is it is forcing people to follow standards. One reason I test my web apps in many browsers, if it dosent look the same in all of them, I'm not doing something right!
If people are not willing to use these standards, then their websites will not look right in most browsers anyways.
Just because new browsers let you get away without following standards dosent mean people should be able to write sloppy code, and by this I mean most ma and pa sites dont even follow standard HTML specifications.
XML is designed for data.
XHTML is designed for structure.
XHTML = valid HTML. aka no more tages for text (no font, b, i,small, strong, etc. use style sheets) all tags are either closed with an ending tag or/>. Its not that big of a jump other then just valid HTML.
So....
You use XML for your data, HTMLto structure your data, and CSS for appearance and fomatting.
Dosen't Microsoft Windows XP have the ability to write to a cdr?
I bought a new dell that had a cdrw, I dont remember installing the software, infact I know once I even dragged and dropped files onto the cdr drive, and it burned them after 2 more clicks.
Does this mean sience windows gave me the ability to burn files to cdr that they too can be affected by this?
The main problem with most RSS feeds is that they update all information. Most of these run off a simple JavaScript that will run on a timer to get all the data again and again.
A better solution would be to implement an XML RSS (or any language really) that uses a simple ID system for news items. When its time to update the news feed, find any new ID's existing; don't retrieve existing data, only new data. This would cut down a large chunk of bandwidth.
A better idea would be to implement some type of component that access their database (or web server through isapi etc etc) that will update the content on the external server that requires the RSS. This would again cut out a large level of data transfer, and requests that would normally slow the server down. Yes this would need to be installed on the external web server, but if people need the news feeds, then you can force them to do it your way.
This is similar to what I do with our system, we have 12,000 machines every few minutes accessing a database to send and receive new information, and we have very few problems with it.
How about I just keep my identity and NOT have any single company owning my personal data?
Yes convince is what America is all about, but there are still many steps needed to be taken in the real world to prove your identity, why do we need one system that everything will be required to use (think about the future). With something like this, I can see something bad happening.
The US government (world government too) has been trying to remove the ability to be anonymous on the internet, with a system like this INFORCED at many different levels, the ability to be anonymous would no longer exist, the moment you connect your pc to the internet (LAN?) you would be authenticated.
The biggest problem with the US is people will not like something, but neither will they do anything about it. Your civil liberties are being taken away, so take them back!
In Minneapolis there were cameras going up everywhere, some people didn't like this, for one reason or another. Over a few months dozens of cameras were stolen, destroyed, or just found to be missing.
Civil disobedience is one of the few ways the people have a voice, the government doesn't listen anymore, they have their own agenda.
How many things have you seen changed in this country by people? How many more have you seen changed for business? Your rights are gone, but you don't need to sit in front of the tv waiting until you have nothing left, get off your ass and protect the rights granted to you for not only living in America, but your rights as being a human.
Civil disobedience in this day and age is the only answer.
It seems to me that microsoft, because of all the lawsuites and issues with them not being competative, is laying low so to speak, they are not planning on too many major releases anytime soon, or creating to very much new technology. But whats the best thing for them to do in the mean time? Buy up or "create" every type of IPO they can think of to insure that no one else can make it happen. Works well for them, because it will insure the fucture technology to them.
This works well for them because it would allow them to try to contol the IPO that exists or owned by other companies.
I keep thinking about the boy who cried wolf story, except the boy is the US government, and the citizens are the people who get fed up with the boy and let him get devoured, and the wolf is what ever hot topic is in the media at the time.
It's like they want us to get so desensitized to the fact of "terror", and want us to have "terror" in our lives so much, that when things like this happen they just seem commonplace.
I keep trying to think of where big business comes into the story, and the only thing I could think of was the boy was paying the wolf to attack him, for one reason or another.
What happens with all the old hardware/software that currently exists? How long until people will need to migrate to the new system, and will such things as rfid support the number system?
What type of security do you think they will have here? I am sure they do not want this leaked, but with 5000 people to watch over, someone getting a copy seems possiable... How hard would it be to do one of the following,
Steal a hard disk with quake 3 installed (one of the player pc's)
Find a install cd someplace (breaking into rooms, garbage)
hooking up a usb/firewire device to the system and copy it over.
copy from pc to internet.
I would enjoy being there just to test to see how well they would be handling these security issues, but I dont think I need to go to jail just yet.
Do we really want this as a standard for linux media. I know there are many different media types out there, but from just a quality level I would think developers would spend time on other projects.
Just the fact this is coming from real networks should be a reason to not support it, giving their track record as a company, and their products over the past 5 years.
Will real be the first applicaiton on linux that will install spyware/bloatware/adware onto linux systems? I think so.
"First off you'll need a workstation motherboard featuring two PCI-E-x16 slots which will also use the more expensive Intel Xeon processors. Secondly you'll need two identical, same brand and type, PCI-E GeForce 6800 graphics cards"
They say this like I need a resaon to spend too much money on computer hardware.
Annoyed? I think this would be a nice step in making tax payment easier and faster, as well as registering to vote, It could make it easier to do many things too that are state related, car tags, paying / viewing tickets (speeding for ex).
I can see this having alot of features that could make this a really useful tool to residents if it was done well, and if it was used affectivly.
I Might be missing something, as I dont care about the difference between open or closed source. Some source I write for fun and release it to everyone, other source I write to make money.
Microsofts MSDN is full of source code examples, tools dlls components etc. Yes many of these tools you do not get the source code too. But as an example Microsoft site server, or commerce server as it is now was full of useful source code for developing your site server applications. Yes it wasnt open source, but it was free to use with your application if you had a license.
I guess what Im getting at is, they offer many examples, source code with licenses, and tools, yes there not open source, but if thats what people want, then they will write it them selves and release it as open.

Why create the technology when you can claim ownership of said technology, and force people who did create the technology to pay you.

You are thinking of the WINDOWS explorer. That is not a web browser, but they have intergrated IE into explorer.
Ok, so what does IE 5.0 interact with on mac os9? Im looking at it right now, I dont see any windows os here....
