  1. Why Bother Anyway? on Obama's MySpace Drama · · Score: 0

As sad as it is, no one like Obama will get TOO far into political power in the United Racist States of America, especially when every democrat will be voting for Hillary. We need more good 'ole boys anyway, like George Walker Bush!

The problem is similar to Cuba, it is pretty easy to keep a regime going for a very long time if there is a widespread perception of an iminent external threat. If a country is attacked the people are going to side with their government regardless of what it is like. The Russians sided with Stalin, the Cubans side with Castro, the Iranians will side with the mullahs. And Americans initially sided with George W. Bush...

Reznor had released several tracks off of With Teeth in this same manner. I believe that there was even a remixing contest (whether officially so or not). With that said, Nine Inch Nails is one of few "bands" worth listening to today and they (him?) continue to prove so.

  18. Subtitles, NOT Numbers! on Ten Years of FFXIII? · · Score: 1

Square really needs to learn to use subtitles instead of numbers for Final Fantasy. The games aren't connected in anyway (they're not even set in the same universes!) and are thus not sequels. When an actual sequel does come along however, you get some idiotic sounding name like Final Fantasy X-2. I mean, really now, what the hell.

It was an example. I'd hardly consider ALL of Star Trek relevant science fiction either. Besides, everything past The Next Generation is almost worse than The Phantom Menace :P

  20. Re:Which Version Will They Show on Star Wars, the Lost Interviews · · Score: 1

I'd hardly consider what Star Wars does as "addressing philosophical issues". What it does is throw around the word fate and evil then comes to an utterly cliche decision as to how to deal with it. Fate wins out by way of some magical force, a princess is saved, evil is vanquished and the world (galaxy?) is saved. Now, when I mentioned trends, I'm not talking about fashion or the hip new word of the week. I mean socio and political climates. Rarely has good science fiction felt dated, except for perhaps in the manner of cinematography or such. When I look back at Star Trek, I feel that its themes are just as relevant today as they were back then. Sure, the set designs and costumes are dated, but the message isn't. The same goes for more established films, like The Day the Earth Stood Still. It's somewhat of a period piece now, but the message rings just as loud, if not louder, as it did back then. Star Wars certainly doesn't feel dated either, but not because it made such a profound message, but because it takes such a timelessly reused route. To be fair however, even the directing and style still holds up pretty well.

  21. Re:Which Version Will They Show on Star Wars, the Lost Interviews · · Score: 1

Real science fiction tends to explore the dilemmas of what makes up humanity. It involves thought, usually leaning toward some sort of message concerning our current society's trends. I'm not saying that Star Wars is awful for NOT being that, but I find it frustrating that this rabid cult of persons would spring up around something that is little more than a "rescue the princess, save the world from evil" scenario with lightsabers instead of swords. It's no different than the slew of action films that are released with laser guns instead of pistols and then branded "sci-fi". It hurts the genre.

  22. Re:Which Version Will They Show on Star Wars, the Lost Interviews · · Score: 1

The original trilogy was entertaining enough, but that's all it was; entertainment. It wasn't real science fiction, just a candy-coated fairy tale set in space. Nothing too imaginative to be found and watching his revised editions and new installments only goes further to prove that...

  23. Re:Bullying OUTSIDE of School Hours, Eh? on Ontario Proposes School Cyber-Bullying Law · · Score: 1

I doubt the disabled (mentally in this case, as we had no other kind to my knowledge) were often messed with at all in my school, seeing as they rarely strayed from their "special" hall of classrooms which was isolated on the far side of the building. And even if they were, so what? Most of the mentally handicapped don't need to be alive, holding society back and cluttering the gene pool. It sounds harsh, but that's what life is. Protecting people from bullying to this extreme is just another way to make people weak, so that when the time comes, they know how to roll over and pass the lube. Besides, almost every bully I've come across possesses bottom-of-the-barrel intellect anyway and will understand nothing but a swift battering. Now, I would by no means consider myself a tough guy, but I have dealt with being outnumbered (say, one to four or five) and have never enlisted the help of my own friends. More than likely, I was fighting their battles, as most of them were the scrawny weaklings that are oh-so susceptible to bullying. As far as I'm concerned, being a good enough person to have someone else want to defend you is just as good as doing it yourself. Clearly we are not all fighters, and it even leaves a bitter taste for many. But for all those that use height or mass as an excuse, I say bullshit. Sure, that sort of thing matters when you want to fight "honorably", but I doubt it matters much after that guy that's three years older gets his testicles kicked back up inside of his pelvis or a rock to the side of his skull. So yes, this is about social conditioning (just like EVERYTHING school-related is). It's about making people feel weak and helpless so that they have no choice but to rely upon the system for all of their perceived needs and protection. Modern society has done a great job at making the average human timid and scared of speaking out or standing up in any situation, not just physical confrontations.

  24. Bullying OUTSIDE of School Hours, Eh? on Ontario Proposes School Cyber-Bullying Law · · Score: 0, Troll

Seems a tad like overstepping one's boundaries. Besides, fuck kids that get bullied, they're cowards. Victims of just about any crime bring it upon themselves by allowing themselves to be victimized. Through my entire stint in school I was "bullied" perhaps three or four times. Never by the same person mind you, because shortly into being hassled and finding out that the authorities (regardless of their position--school, etc) are worthless, I simply beat the shit out of the offending kid. Usually it happened right in the middle of class at that. I never did like "meeting outside after school" just so the little punks could not show up. You kick one bully's ass and word spreads. It takes a few years for that effect to wear off before anyone wants to try it again. Sure, you may get suspended for a few days, but so what? Is it more important to conform to the social conditioning that is school or to stand up for yourself as a real human being should?
