  1. Re:The problem is... on Redesigned, Bulkier Honda Insight to Challenge Prius · · Score: 1

the best gas powered cars on the market now get 34-35 mpg. That's pretty good. A Prius gets 45, some say 50 but that's unlikely with most drivers heavy feet. The original Honda Insight could get 65mpg which is insane! Most of that efficiency was from aerodynamics. The rear wheels being covered and the shape of the tail did most of the work.
There are some cars on http://ecomodder.com/ that get more than that and are gas powered and just modded for aerodynamics. Car companies can release these kinds of low drag designs but I think they are afraid to just because it entails a different kind of styling that we are used to.

this is a moot point as people are used to needing the disc on a console. On a PC there are legitimate reasons to not want the disc in. On a console it makes no difference because the device is intended to need the disc in. It doesn't detract from anything else on the system. A PC is used for more than just games.

regardless a heavily muscled person requires more food as upkeep for those muscles. That should show some evidence that more energy is burned in general. But I think that it isn't about the muscle mass as much as muscle percentage. My friend who is very muscular and my friend who is equally lean but has much smaller muscle mass both eat like monsters. Their metabolism is high. Their bodies have been formed into high output machines that require a lot of fuel. If they stop exercising for a while and lose the tone and definition i am sure they will not actually be as hungry all the time.

also 100mpg cars can be easily attainable. The only problem is that making production cars that are light and aerodynamic are against the will of the industry or something. Building a car that has a coefficient of drag lower than 0.2 is easy but the car will "look funny". Looks matter of course. But that will change when gas hits 10/gal. Building lighter cars will also make accidents hurt less as long as all the cars are light. How much energy is wasted dragging around all that excess weight! There are people at ecomodder.com that are getting around and over 100mpg from some ghetto backyard modded bodies to lower drag. wtf car industry! wtf car buyers!

  24. Re:The right kind of innovation? on American Solar Challenge Racers Head For Canada · · Score: 1

I think a better way to get solar powered racing to fruition would first need a governing body like the FIA does for F1 racing. Next on the PV tech. There needs to be standardized restrictions. This way the power source is the same for each car making racing fair and interesting. The reason pro racing is interesting is because the rules make sure the competition is very close and the drivers and teams are what make the wins. The human element is whats important in any sport. Imposing PV cell restrictions that are modified every season to use newer tech will help upgrade the industry in a more steady pace. Forcing teams to buy and use the PV cells for that season will force some production companies to produce those cells developing cheaper methods of production etc. This is how to help push an industry using a racing program.
