The real question isn't who would pay for the study but why this entity wants to abolish the striping from this world! WHY!!! I see no reason to be hating. Not for any kind of corporation.
this is exactly what I keep trying to tell people (when electrics as a viable transportation infrastructure comes up in convo). EVs emit no pollution other than general heat, and not that much heat even as the system itself is quite efficient. Once we can create an atomic power plant ecosystem then all the crap gasses we toss into the atmosphere will be done with. EVs FTW! Also its really easy to make an EV go really fast (at the cost of battery juice ofcourse).
While I admire Herbert's creation of a science fiction novel based on modern studies of desert ecology, I felt the whole spice deal weakened the hard sci-fi goodness of what otherwise would have been a less fantastical book.
Really? I thought the spice was the necessary center of the plot! As spice was a reference to Middle East oil dependency. Arrakis, a bad pronunciation of Iraq with an "is" at the end. All the houses fighting over the planet? Remember when the middle east was divided between England and France after WWI? I mean, how much Arabic did Herbert throw in those books! All the Fremen spoke Arabic.
my car's engine is around 3150cc but thats cuz its bored and stroked and a lot of head work. Is it possible to "bore and stroke" an HDD? Thats why computers arent cars.
I understand your point tho HDD manufacturers need to be for open with this base 10 labeling. I always feel jipped when I buy a new HDD and it has like gigs missing. I understand their marketing dept likes to make sure they can write whole large numbers for the capacity on the box and that the company wants to make more money by lowering production costs. But c'mon at least don't take that feeling of having an even number of gigs! How many OCD types have had their lives ruined by these crazy HDD companies!
better yet, You buy an HDTV that says its 720p but turns out its only 700 pixels high! Or something stupid like that resulting in less pixels for your buck.
Well electrics need to be measured in something other than MPG because that's just confusing and not correct. It should be like Miles per Amp Hours (MPAH).
Most things work, but it's the annoying bugs (like the constant disk use which kills laptop battery life).
What is it doing though? Why does it have to crunch the drive all day long! I am not giving it any inputs! I wanna know.
... Use it to overwrite that day when you just stayed at home and read the newspaper.

One thing that could be cool is a simple addition. For me a laptop with the idea behind mobility would need to just be small but still comfortably usable. a 10 to 12 inch screen, solid state drive (doesnt need to be large), no speakers (but a headphone port would be good), a camera and mic for video chat or whatever, and a mouse nipple, no touchpad(takes space). But the thing I would like to add is just a little compartment to carry a bunch of SD and MicroSD cards. For me a laptop is really just a satellite support to my workstation and home network. So it only needs to do basic office type work and be able to get my pics off my DSLR or video camera on the field. When I get home I drop all my files on the file server or desktop or whatever.
I say the increased resource use would be more acceptable if explorer was replaced with whatever file browser they used in the movie Hackers. Flying around a virtual file system would be awesome. Useless, but awesome!
HACK THE PLANET!
This design would be awesome if it was possible to put coffee in it and it was dishwasher safe. Why stop at the cup? What if I wanna take a shit and do my taxes with the same device! Also you can holographically display the water in the bowl swirling in the other direction cuz any computer needs a little eye candy.
Yes, Windows is Superman. He has the publicity and DRM. Linux has to be Batman because he has all those wonderful toys and he does end up kicking Superman's face in when it came to a confrontation.
what if it was translated to a high budget anime series? Would that not be awesome? I don't see any american studios doing it justice with american animation styling sense. Plus anime is the perfect format to liven up politics.
Yes I totally agree with everything you have said there. I'd add though that it is important to get the look and feel right. The 1984 movie was on the way to getting it right. Lots of desert location shots and the costumes were good. Especially the still suits. I think harkonen can be more evil thru his actions and good acting. Just making him ugly is a classic movie cop-out. I would like the sets to look more like ancient architecture just with the added futuristic technologies needed. It would make things seem more extravagant. I dont wanna see a bunch of HDTVs as props, AND product placement could kill the film. Also if done right a lot of the things that need explaining can be done quickly with good directing. The problem with that is pacing. I see pretty much anything happening on the Dune planet as having a slower pacing. That is important to the mood of the desert. Anyway I am jabbering enuff.

I agree, I read this at the source back then!
"UCLA Student Council President American Ninja, single handed, slaughters USC* at pep rally."

once he realizes this fact he will resort to masked IP vigilantism.

The public needs to greatly increase their understanding of many things before anything useful will get done.

that cat lover is like the shaka zulu of the internets.
oh but it is so true. It's called outsourcing in some cirlces.
hey do you work for wayforward? I worked there a while back for a few months.

well they do control the Maps.
Cool is like an electron, man. You can't know what or where it is even when you are lookin' at it. The only way is to be the electron.
