To your #2:
"XP going end-of-life" DOES NOT constitute a justification. Security, that cannot be managed by a firewall, can be constituted.
The only reason to UPGRADE is application compatibility - THE ONLY REASON. And since Office 2007 does not draw too many crowds in the business world(Does MSO2007 support XP?), there are little, if any, applications to migrate for.
What?!?!?!
As much as I remember KDE, it has been just evolving. While Vista is definitely not an evolutionary step in Windows design.
So, yeah, Vista and Windows 7 look like KDE has always looked. Just see how 3.3 looks(circa 2004), not much has changed at first look.
To be fair.
You "Start" a "Shutdown" (process), while how would you "Microsoft Office" a "Save as"(procedure)????(Implying that the logo has a name and trademarked to mean Microsoft Office)
Those bafoons just were too lazy in changing the name.
Remember in Win95 you would get a floating message above the start button(given you didn't get a BSoD just before that): "Click here to start..."
So logically, the button was named "Start".
Please....
iPhone is NOT a cellphone. It is a PDA with convenient GSM(or whatever) module.
My primary concern with cellphones is that they make and receive calls, and do it good for a long standby/call time.
Don't know when IBM's mainframes got it, but WAN clustering works like that. If a mainframe goes down, the VM is moved to another mainframe in the "cluster". Though, they probably can make them move.
You haven't used a ThinkPad apparently.
The T series just blows MacBook away in rigidity and quality of the keyboard. Though I have not used a Lenovo version.
Ha! For making calls I'll take my simple Nokia any time over iPhone.
Package as a whole, iPhone is a bit late, I mean where was 3g? The only "good" thing about it is the Apple logo. When I picked it up for the first time I got stunned what to do to unlock it... Why would I consider to stroke the screen left to right?
Two years ago, on the cab from the caltrain station to Moscone, the taxi driver asked us if we were there for this new "iPhone thing"
Taxi drivers? I used to live near a Night Club. Once male strippers were performing in that club, and that very day I was returning from the airport on a taxi. The result was the Taxi driver telling how many women he has driven to that club that evening. So really, if a taxi driver knows about it, that means BIG FAT ZERO.
FYI: It's you who value sensation above all else. And media is responding to that demand. See SouthPark's episode on Rating Is Everything, with depicts the reality. Media needs ratings to have ads to get $$$. Easiest way is to create/report on a sensation.
For that reason I rarely watch TV. And I hate sensationalism.
I suspect that Sun does not want to push MySQL to the enterprises. Given the amount of R&D going into PostgreSQL on behalf of Sun, I think they want PostgreSQL to be the DBMS of choice to replace Oracle(and other big names).
PM is there to help the developers deliver results. Nothing else. The good ones, know when to keep a team on track, when to stay out of their way and when offer help of any kind. The main issue is to be the one that the developers are comfortable in telling that there is a problem or that they are late.
The rule of thumb is: Never punish anyone, only give out rewards.
There is one more thing:
Dev's need to be aware where the business side would want flexibility and extensibility in the code(functionality). That saves a lot of time in design and implementation.
We have a man with PhD in Physics as our PM(head of the executive branch), this is the worst idea EVER. He generates good ideas, but FAILS miserably in implementing them.
you willing to work 8 hours a day doing community service in the summer
Really... You are forgetting that children are hard to deal with. I would say that teachers need to have 1 month per year for academic improvement and 2 months of daily psychologist visits after what those brats do every day in school.
Remember, that children are only pearls in their own parents' eyes.
And I don't even call them when I do it. So 2 minutes saved :)
IBM? I doubt that. And VIA does not have the "dough".
Intel is the best realistic option, but will they want to diversify so much?

Let us not get over our heads....
Saying that Nokia can't push something, is like saying MS or Intel can;t push something...
Please....

FYI: In theory, UK parliament has no restriction on what they can bring into law...
Let me sum up: How the hell do you live with that legal system? It's, pretty much, the craziest one in the world... Just look at the amount of laws.
Ever heard of natural monopolies? Probably a natural oligopoly is a better description for the processor(automobile, etc) market right now.

Oh and about comparing MacBook to BMW? Are you joking? It's more like a pink VW Bug(the new version).

Definitely not TRUE about iPhone. iPod - probably yes.

I'm ready to use PostgreSQL now
Witch, ironically, Sun actively supports as well. And isn't one of the core devs from PostgreSQL work for Sun?
FYI: You get what you pay for, this goes for the Chinese manufacturers too.
