I read a good article in new scientist (IIRC), that studied the addictive nature of TV.
It was the sudden transitions that you get with advertising and music TV that caused people to get hooked and also feel drained and zombified after long sittings. So yeah, it's not really the medium but what you choose to watch.
Have you looked at the faces of people "watching" MTV? Creepy.
If iiNet are a local monopoly for you then forgive the redundant comment.
If not then isn't this an excellent reason to bail on them right now? When I switched away from virgin media, I made a list of why they had become worse than a Hitler/Mao/Stalin hybrid and I was asked for this info as part of the quitting procedure.
Often smaller ISPs have far more enlightened policies.
For websites we have the political blockade of mixing up encryption, "trust", and money. Totally broken, totally beyond repair.
Then on the personal side you can't have a one-sided encrypted connection. You can't use encrypted jabber/email/etc because none of your friends or relatives do. In fact you can't use jabber at all because all your friends are locked into msn, or even use web services like facebook to communicate.
Everyone's screwed.

Yeah but real life has a completely messed up difficultly curve.
The boss level of 'getting up in the morning' comes first, and then it's much easier after that.
That is just about the polar opposite of my experience. XP is showing its age because shoe-horning it onto an eeepc 901 was a horrible task. The installer is just dumb and can't handle anything but a CD-drive, which I don't have.
I then used the incredible unetbootin to try out a bunch of linux distros from USB sticks and even an SDcard, finally settling on intrepid. Unfortunately it didn't quite "just work" because of the wireless card. (Big surprise)
The netbook platform is unique I feel in not needing the usual windows baggage anyway.
You have to be a complete tool to buy the XP model and then install linux. In a few of their models you get a worse spec machine for paying the windows tax. 8GB less solid state storage.
It's a shame they are phasing out the sub 10" models though. I feel the 8.9 was the sweet spot for netbooks because it's small as possible, but has a "modern" screen resolution without which websites are too cramped these days.
Yes I think I understand how this works

1. Teflon coat a slope
2. Lower speed limit on said slope
3. Speed camera at the bottom
4. Profit!
Huh? This isn't the parent post I was trying to reply to.
And yet google don't even convert petabytes to libraries of congress in the google calculator.
Or perhaps I got the syntax wrong.
2009 will be the year of the x64 desktop.
What would happen if the webwise.net domain (which shares an IP with phorm.com) was to accidentally get DDOSed?
Going by the Phorm diagram on wikipedia, it would seem that webwise.net is a central point of failure for the system.

Why do the cards need to be writeable in a way that can cause permanent damage?

It's not fair to call vista a virus.
Viruses are some of the tiniest and most efficient pieces of code written.
"We chose Linux as our initial platform in response to numerous requests in our public Flash Player bug and issue management system"
Linux users asked, and adobe listened. Great stuff.
Thankfully for Lutz Heilmann, who formerly worked for the Stasi, attempting to censor information does not cause it to be widely publicized.
There should be a name for that.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the summary wants us to react in a certain way?
Would you put your servers on the NUKELEURZ? WOULD YOU!?
I'm not feeling the fear here.

I wasn't engineered to eat meat and plants. Although my specious did evolve that way.
This is going to revolutionise the telescreen. They can be made in china, then installed all over America, the UK and China.

I'll also be needing videoblock for firefox now.
