  1. Re:Where to begin? on Indie Game Dev On the Positive Side To DRM · · Score: 1

Fine points, just want to say some things about them.

    1. 1. If people still think Steam is unfair, they can just buy the games they want when they go on sale. Steam usually has some really good ones.
    2. 2. Steam can saturate your fiber connection? Maybe it's a location thing, but it doesn't even saturate my DSL connection (~20 Mbps).
    3. 3. I bought Defense Grid in a â5 ** sale because, upon playing the demo, it didn't feel like a game to pay â20* for, on a student budget. Boy, was I wrong. The demo doesn't do it justice. That was amazing value for the money.

    * On that note, there are tons of publishers that still seem to think $1 = â1... and you can start bringing up localization costs the day you see most games localized into Portuguese. The only ones I remember that are, are Valve's games since HL2 (subtitles only), The Sims series and, impressively, Braid.

** Seriously?! Slashdot can't handle the Euro symbol?!

Your feet. The fact that you're even asking that question means you never used even a halfway decent transit system before. Granted, getting to that point requires an extensive network and, in many cases, decades of work to build it, but you're not going to get there by doing nothing.

I'm not saying transit is the be all, end all of transportation, and it will never be able to serve everyone equally. But make no mistake that it can be damn good.

  8. Re:Offload the capacitor? on MIT Electric Car May Outperform Rival Gas Models · · Score: 5, Insightful

That's one of the stupidest bloody things I have ever heard. A train is a way safer place to be than a car. Hell, they're not even in the same league!

The reason it takes you more time to get somewhere by train than by car on a (I'm assuming) congested highway isn't because transit sucks, but because transit in your area sucks. I'm guessing the main reason for that is the kind of money wasted on making four-lane highways and not train tracks.

Murray: You may call me 'Murray'! I am a powerful demonic force!

Even with anti-trust laws, you can have price-fixing. They just have to be careful not to leave a paper trail. I'm pretty sure that's the situation with gas stations, in my country. Two anti-trust (more like anti-cartel) probes later, there's no conviction and they all have pretty much the same price, sometimes down to the tenth of a cent.

From Wikipedia's article on Andrea Luchesi:

By 1757[2] he moved to Venice. The protection of the nobleman Jseppo Morosini enabled him to study with eminent musicians: Gioacchino Cocchi, Padre Paolucci, Giuseppe Saratelli, Domenico Gallo, Ferdinando Bertoni and (the best-known of them) Baldassare Galuppi. His career in Venice developed quickly: examiner of the organists commission in 1761, then organist at San Salvatore (1764), composer of works for "organ or cembalo", instrumental, sacred and theatre music. He composed for official celebrations, the last (1771) being the solemn funeral of the Duke of Montealegre, Spanish ambassador to Venice. As a famous virtuoso he was invited to play organ in and outside Venice, e.g. was in charge of inaugurating the new organ of the basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua.[3]

Yep, sounds like if he were female, he'd be EXACTLY like Britney Spears!
