Only at frequences that resonate with water (2.4ghz) like your microwave oven or your WiFi card. In the case of the WiFi card it isn't a big deal since the power is very low.
Basic calculus isn't essential for most people now. It is, however, very useful for those persuing science/engineering and (obviously) math degrees. They do still teach how to do square roots by hand and how to do long division; they should, and they will continue to do so. They may begin teaching these skills earlier than they do now, but they will not disappear.
The slide rule example is obvious as it is a technological aid which has been replaced by another technological aid. You cannot simply replace human knowledge by technology because humans must still be able to create the technology!
I'd like to add that my router/firewall is used to connect about 5 machines to the net' and route packets between 3 subnets. The router has 2 wired ethernet and one WiFi card. I use ssh+ppp for a VPN to authenticate wireless users.
Wired has one subnet, wireless has a subnet, and the VPN has a subnet. Having the multiple subnets makes filtering easier.
I have a pentium 166 as my router/firewall. I put in an old 256 megabyte harddrive, installed Linux, setup iptables, then copied the important files to a tmpfs filesystem, remounted / read-only, and spun-down the harddrive. A completely quiet system (the processor doesn't need a fan).
If you need more speed for some reason, try a Via C3 processor. With a good heatsink you shouldn't need a fan at all.. even if, the fans required make little or no noise.
I found that harddrives are too loud. If you need to write to the disk, get one of those 'low noise' harddrives. Alternatively, you can try a flash disk which would be quiet and wouldn't have to be spun-down; however, you would only have a limited number of writes.
PNG is a far better format than GIF. 32bit color, alpha transluceny (vs simply on/off transparency in gif). Not to mention that the patent on GIF is expiring in the USA but will still remain valid in some other countries.
According to the post on lkml, you can extract a cramfs image from the firmware update. Simply extract the filesystem, mount it, copy your binaries onto the filesystem and edit the configuration files. Unmount, dd the image back into the firmware update. Flash firmware.
Al Jadzira was legitimately down during some periods of the war simply due to the stress put on it by (the more intellectual) americans. I used proxy servers in various countries in attempt to reach Al Jadzira; however, from none of though countries could I reach it.
I did notice that many countries *did* block Al Jadzira with warnings/notices that it wasn't allowed.
The person who is claiming infringement simply needs to send a signed letter under penalty of perjury to the ISP. The ISP is then required to take the content down for a minimum of ten days and no longer than 14 days in such period the plaintiff must file for a court order. If a court order is made, then the ISP must continue to have the site content removed; otherwise, they must return the content no later than 14 days.
This part of the DMCA is very good and very clear. It is unfortunate that it must give such power to plaintiffs; however, due to the penalty of purjury assumed by the plaintiff illegitimate accusations can easily cause a counter-suit and thus the system is balanced.
I had a 650mhz athlon in my dorm and a 400mhz G3 Powerbook Pismo (top of the line then!).
I tried using the computer in some classes and all it got me was failure. It was much easier and faster to use the pen and paper. If you have a scanner, scan it in or transcribe it (if you need to do searches).
The laptop will be exceptionally useful especially if you will be doing programming; many lab computers do not run Linux/Unix and in those classes I had a distinct advantage of bringing and supplying my own hardware and environment (you don't have to worry about a poorly installed or obsolete vi/vim, or other problems with the lab's installed software).
What the hell does a router need with a 3 disk raid 0? *maybe* raid 5, but even that is useless. Just put in a $30 IDE flash disk, keep one spare with a live system.
In related news, foam detectors have now be installed at all state and federal facilities.

Many people feel that the proper name for those who are genetically inclined towards dwarfism are dwarfs and those who are simply very short due to medical reasons (via disease or medical treatment) are midgets.
Shame, that education on dwarfs and midgets in the USA is based mostly on the Howard Stern Show.
The parent is right-on.. the book sucks. It just has a ton of example social engineering jobs, all which are quite obvious. "how not to give your your password for dummies" as the parent put it, is exactly how the book reads and should've been the title.
I'm not only familiar with that site, one of my employers hosts that site;) I haven't managed to get it to work, but maybe it just requires more patience.
I meant to say that microwaves only cause harm with higher powers, and yes the problem is with being boiled. Thanks for pointing that out.
It has been a draft. Many vendors have already been shipping products for quite a while, however.

Not the first pink computer

I used a PII until I inherited the Pentium 166 after buying my mother a new computer (800mhz Duron).
The PII is now a development workstation.

It must be sent by a person via snail-mail (registered mail? not sure) with a *real* signature, or sent digitally signed with a verifiable signature.

I have a power of -8.5 in both eyes. I have the smallest lenses that the local shop could get.
My eyes were *very* strained.. I began having problems seeing, they were always hurting. It got to the point that it became difficult to work.
I changed from contacts to glasses and later bought an LCD monitor. Those two changes drastically improved my life.
Unfortunately, I don't think I look too good in glasses due to the very high power that my eyes require.

Not only is it black, but having a mouse built-in would make it the perfect canidate for adaption to wireless
With that said, there are a few drawbacks which are very unfortunate:
I would die for a black, wireless, usb IBM model M. Maybe I should hack one. I suppose the USB problem could be solved via an adapter.
