Can you imagine? The only package manager that prompts you for your credit card number when you click "apply". Unless, of course, your optional packages are minesweeper and pinball.:-)
I doubt that it will prompt. It would prefer to scour your hotmail account and My Documents\Finance for the info.
Scratch that. The plugin that I downloaded yesterday was outdated by today. Upgraded and now it's working. It's hanging frequently, but I think it's a bandwidth issue. Their server is getting hammered.
I installed the moonlight plugin (linked from microsoft's install page for sliverlight) and loaded the special Linux-compatible page, but I don't get streaming video. It buffers for a few seconds and stays on the first frame. I can refresh for a new frame. Anyone else having better luck seeing it in Firefox under Linux with the moonlight plugin?

I think the hidden text field is fine, as long as the name or label for the field identifies it as a spam trap to humans. I have labeled mine "please leave this field blank" and could make
the id "url" or "website" to attract spammers.
If any computer, then OLPC is the way to go. To cover one issue mentioned: the keys don't come off.
Also, if your little one doesn't get any real use out of it, at least the recipient of the "give one" half of the deal will be well served.
Although, if Baby Einstein is bad for development at that age, a computer might not be much better. Interaction might make it better than TV, but interaction with an actual person is better.
I second this. MythTV has been on my todo list for the last several years. Even though it took a while to get set up, it was a labor of love. If you are dreading the setup, MythTV isn't for you.
It's like the guys who buy hotrods and spend more time tinkering than driving.
Now that it's running, I haven't really had to tinker with it much. I keep it locked in a spare room and load the frontend on a laptop.
I think the coolest thing that I've done with it was using it for transcription assistance:
I had a VHS tape with an interview on it to transcribe and it was taking forever. Type. Stop. Rewind. Rewind further. Hands back to Keyboard. Type. Stop...
Now, I connect the vcr to the input on MythTV and record channel 3 while the tape plays. Keyboard shortcuts let me skip back a few seconds, and I work that button with my foot. This was about 5x faster.
A gimper, as Seume explained it, was someone who always does a little more than what's required or expected. In the furniture business, for example, gimping is putting the finishing touches on the upholstery, patiently applying the ornamental extras that are a mark of quality and value.
There is also a GIMP community at gimper.net

One of the downsides to having your code done by the lowest bidder is: it's being done by the lowest bidder.
As a coder, it's very difficult to get reasonable pay from these sites because there is always someone with a lower cost-of-living that will undercut your best price.
It's funny how little mention Barr gets on/.
If this were a discussion of Mac vs. Windows, 90% of posts would be about Linux. Why is it that we are all content with the mainstream when it comes to politics?
So many are willing to vote for an under-performer just because everyone else is doing it.
Although I can't vouch for its accuracy (since it depicts things that haven't happened yet) this (pdf warning) chart compares spending plans for Barr, McCain, and Obama. Barr is the only one looking to reduce spending.
In all fairness, XP/Vista don't always work well with dual monitors. Sometimes I don't want to use the second monitor in Vista, so I disable it and turn the CRT off. Few minutes later the "found new hardware" sound is playing the Mexican Hat Dance.
Also, don't assign your external monitor to be primary for a laptop with Intel graphics. It will forget to fire up the primary and then you're pretty much boned. The login prompt and panel to fix this will only open on the disabled side of your desktop.
according to the article. Wikipedia says 1606.
I daresay the aborigines would reckon the date a bit earlier...
And as soon as they get internet access they'll be able to update the article.

Then I've used css to hide it:
You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.
It's nice that he found a way to combine the two.
... so I figured there must be some reason it was there and tried that trick. A minute maybe, then, barn.
I thought, "That's a clever trick."
$139? You're getting ripped off. I get daily offers for a $20 XP/Viagla bundle in my email.
Version 4? You've got me beat. I started at 6. ;)
It was super secret. Not everybody could download it.

What is scum and spam is what I call SEM (Search Engine Manipulation)...
I prefer to identify it by its longer name: Search Engine Manipulation, Evil Marketing.
I hate sites that are covered in this stuff. It's gross.

When I was a kid I found a bag of random bits...
Were they just pseudo random bits, or did you actually find the bit bucket?
I must confess: I'm in the same boat.
Heck, at that price, I'll take two.
