The only thing that would tempt we to get a PDA is if I could have easy wireless shell access to telnet to a UNIX box wherever I go.

I have done this on two seperate PDA's. My old Palm V with an Omnisky CDPD modem (19.2k, supported in most digital cell areas), and my Compaq iPaq Handheld with a PCMCIA CDPD modem. One of the reasons I moved to the iPaq was it's ability to use PCMCIA cards, so my laptop could also have CDPD without 2 monthly charges or a cable hack to the Novatel model Omnisky used on the Palm V.

And for ultimate server control, the iPaq now can interface with the Remote Insight Lights Out boards Compaq sells as options for their servers. So, from the iPaq you can telnet into your UNIX box, and if for some reason that fails, connect to the RIBLOE and see whats wrong (access to hardware failure logs, ability to power cycle the machine, etc...)

Diablo II in my mind proved Blizzard lost their high standards. And with the way Warcraft III is going, it's just going to be more of the same.

Diablo II's artists did an excelent job with the art and movies. But the programmers? Honestly, a game should not absolutly require 256 MB ram for no-lag multiplayer gaming on a LAN.

If it wasn't going to meet their high standards (aka a game that somehow catches on with a group and sells a few million copies), they should have at least licensed it to someone else to let finish it up.

Don't mind me, I'm just bitter the adventure genre has gone downhill, partially due to the good game developers not bothering to release anything new in the area. I'd love another Zork game that takes full advantage of DVD quality movies, or another Journeyman Project.

The Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube and XBox will have enough of a hard time keeping in there as it is. The Dreamcast console just proves this. And a company who has no estlablished roots to live off of like Microsoft, or who has never done a console already like Sony and Nintendo expects to survive?

The XBox will fill the need for a PC console, the GameCube will hold over the kiddies, and the PS2 will hold over everyone else while the Dreamcast fades away.

I still dislike the fact that Blizzard canned Warcraft Adventures because "it didn't utilize modern technology well enough". So instead they made Diablo II, a game that looks a slim bit better then the first and needs 256MB ram to run at a decent speed in multiplayer.

Hell, even the Mac laptops use it, so they did a decent job on the standard :-)

Oh, just like PC DIMMs, you have PC66, and PC100 memory. I had to worry about that when I bought my extra memory for my Solo 9300, as it uses a 100 mHz bus (unherd of at the time when I got it new in Aug 99).
