ok so the link on slashdot doesnt even go to the http://www.filmcrewonline.com/ website, but rather some dude's lame blog with lame ads. Oh, and I'm not even sure they even do this anymore, since they've been busy with RiffTrax, and their official website hasn't changed in a long time. What a terrible slashvertisement by man-in-the-middle proxy (go to my website to go to the real one).
Unlike cable or phone lines, there is no cost to maintain and expand airwaves. What would this wholesale price be? If its a % of whatever the winning bid is, then it doesnt matter how much you bid, your pretty much garunteed to make it back via leasing alone. If its like 5000 bucks a year for a small slice, that might be a different story. Who determines the wholesale price? Will it change each year? Will it be the same if the winning bid is 10 billion or 100 billion? All important questions that lawmakers need to take into consideration.
If they find out it wasn't a big deal to begin with and the investigation was brought up via injustifiable circumstances, then would you see a/. article?
Did they factor in the speed hit you get when you have to make the extra effort to throttle individual packets based on a priority table? What about latency- does a neutral net have lower latency than a tiered one?
This is really no different than any other product placement. How often do you shift through your profile and take pride in those artificial medals you build up just for doing basic things? Better how, often do you actually buy some crap just because some corporation stuck its logo and name next to it? Yes, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl does make me feel like buying... Safeway brand corn chips!!
Honestly it does sound like a weather balloon with dummies though. Perhaps it was intended to be a means of spying? The thin metallic strong material mentioned sounds a lot like the material those RC balloons you can buy at a hobby store are made of, and the dummies were probably disproportionate due to someone not really caring how lifelike their dummies were. It would make sense, maybe when he saw the metallic egg shape, it was inflated. Perhaps it wasn't to be spoken of because it was an embaressment that they made a big deal out of it.
And people do can easily be convinced to do pretty much anything on a deathbed.
When I got a regular old cell phone on the day that Cingular's network merged with AT&T, it took two days to get my phone up and running, and I had to get 3 new phone numbers. Then I was billed for changing phone numbers. They happily got rid of the charges, but thats just the way Cingular / AT&T are. Honestly, I'd avoid them like the plague except my girlfriend has cingular so we get free mobile to mobile. Oh yeah, the reception aint that great even at 5 bars. In another incident, a cingular rep. flat out lied about a plan that my girlfriend was signing up for, claiming it would be about 70 a month, and it ended up being over 400 a month. Again, with some calling that got straightened around.
So people new to at&t / cingular, now you know what your getting into.
The theory I've come up with, I've come up with on my own, so its not based on any theory that I know of. The gaia theory seems to (I'm not a scholar on it, I'm just going by what I saw in a quick readthrough in that wikipedia link in the effort of saving time) require life on earth to act as the means of preserving earth's temperature and such, while my theory is more of a "theory of cycles". To be honest, I dont fully understand how it works, but I have good reason to believe it works that way. If I did try to explain what I do know so far, it'd take pages and pages and of course nobody is interested in that.
The just of it is that basically, there are naturally occuring reactionary mechanisms to cool Earth that accelerate as heat increases, and other mechanisms for heating Earth as Earth cools. If you think about it, that creates a cycle, which would cause Earth's mean temperature to fluxuate much like a sine wave. There is no stable temperature. The biggest thing that scares me, it turns out, is doing something that isn't natural to this cycle, such as turning water into pure hydrogen, which is so light it escapes the atmosphere and never returns. Imagine people stepping on those hydrogen balls every year, as well as manufacturing accidents that cause hydrogen to escape...
You could tie anything to warming though if you get creative enough. Climate change is an inevitability of the system that governs Earth's weather and keeps its temperature somewhat stable. Unless the energy going in is the same as the energy going out, then you will have change. Another thing to point out is that the 150,000 deaths, as linked by the article, is attributed to an increase in maliaria, diarrehia, and malnutrition.
Also, the washington post is known to be a liberal newspaper.
And odds are, Earth would of "spiraled out of control" a long long time ago if the system of temperature control that governs it didnt have a way of dealing with overheating and overcooling.
They dont like it when you dont agree with them, so they mod you down since your in dissent.
Wierd how they dont know what the samsung part is

Apple iPhone Dissected

the samsung part visible on that final photo, the K9HbG08U1m, is 4 gigabyte nand flash. For some reason I've seen several people take apart the iphone and call it a graphics processor or something.
yes, lets censor people's free expression by showing who you disagree with and marking it as a troll or flamebait. I wouldn't have probably noticed this except I mark all troll and flamebait as +3. Over half of the time these are just people disagreeing with the poster and not following the group mentality. Karma also means +0 to me since obviously it only takes one easily angered mod to mark take your karma down for a long while. And this is proof that this is exactly what the system is creating - fear to say what you really think.
And unfortunately this reminds me a LOT of aljazeera.com, the phony baloney "al-jazeera magazine" where comments are heavily filtered before even allowing them to be posted, and people vote you as +5 (good) or -5 (ban) based on whether you hate america and believe in radical islamic law, censorship, and oppression or not.
I like how slashdot allows people to post an article and then mod people as trolls whoever criticizes it. Mods need their own mods to revoke mod privilages.
There are lots of opportunities to get job interviews without the interviewer even seeing your grades (such as job fairs). Those are perfect opportunities to show how much you know and explain those grades. Next up, how is your overall GPA? One year might drop it but if your over a 3.0 overall then dont worry about it. Finally, try to get a job anyways- if your having bad luck, then you may consider taking it again. There isn't any penalty for finishing in a longer amount of time (especially in CS, where finishing in 4 years is the more uncommon line in many schools).
Once you get a job, your grades will still matter, but job performance will matter more. Odds are, you'll be trained to do something you cant even learn in school anyways.
The US is one of the largest food producers in the world. Food prices would go up, making us relatively poorer, and more people would starve in countries that we provide food aid to. Every country has farms, and the poorest are the ones that cant grow their own food (and have cash crops).

Under what circumstance should the above post be modded flamebait?
Odd, that sounds EXACTLY like an episode of House. Except it wasn't AIDS, it was a disease that made you go crazy. And Forman had it.

7 minutes? Jeesus thats forever! Thats like taking a public bus system.
But seriously is it 7 minutes or do you have to wait like 2 hours to ride it?
ammonia and fertilizer cause algae blooms. They should figure out a way to turn algae blooms into energy and we'd be all set!

Another post improperly modded as troll...

Well emacs users dont make up stats to support their cause. Or maybe they do, I still have yet to meet one surprisingly.

Biggest Hurdle so far is figuring out how to stop the quantum pac-man who keeps eating them.

Actually by definition a liberal is tolerant. Example: A liberal grading system is one designed to give individuals good grades.
Politically though, your correct, its a completely different story. Example: Last I checked Hillary Clinton isn't very tolerant of drilling in ANWR.
