It's getting to a point where all the various types of LEGO could be an entire store unto itself!
At this point, I'm surprised nobody has designed these bricks to have actual purpose such as mechanical, electronic and/or other type of entities that could be programmed and then assembled to do SOMETHING.
I was once a kid and I recall my fun with LEGO, but, back then, there were just a bunch of pieces and you let your imagination go, now, it's utterly ridiculous.
Maybe we should be building a LEGO Inflatable Doll :) Would that become an "Official" LEGO project?

Well, here's the gig: When we will be able to glean useful information from the epigenetic portion of DNA, then we will be able to deal with identical twins.

That is something we need to work on, however, who says it has to stop at using DNA? Maybe in tandem with a microchip perhaps.

There are ways of creating totally unique identification markers.

At the moment any systems we currently have can be faked and/or hacked, the goal is to make it extremely hard, next to impossible to do so. I think that using our own DNA with epigenetic information is the way to go.

Certainly, those of you who think otherwise, at the very least, offer something better then.

Between the great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch, air pollution, huge deforestations and water pollution, well, let's stop fooling ourselves about our 'negligible' impact.

Won't even go in the wildflife and the habitats we have endangered for all kinds of reasons, including many gas and oil spills, or the many species of animals, insects, plants etc, which we have seeded in area where there is now a disbalance.

Bottom line, we are not helping, because we are NOT in harmony with nature. In an undisturbed area, you find there is a healthy balance between predators and prey.

We just go where we want and we just multiply without thinking about the resources we use. I think sometimes we are more like a virus than an animal.

Anyways, money won't mean much if we can't have a planet to live on.

So maybe we as humanity should stop thinking in terms of barriers and segregation of people and we should really start working together at fixing this mess we've created. Not in the name of profit, but in the name of survival. For the sake of the generations to come, our kids and their progeny.

  22. mmm, what I believe.. on Fear of Death Makes People Into Believers (of Science) · · Score: 1

is that, in this universe, nothing is lost, nothing is gained, all is transformed. this is the type of universe we live in, and as such, i believe that somehow, when we die, something about whatever it is that drives us, survives.

It could be that we are actually just one huge life form in this universe and that every living thing is merely an aspect. it would explain a lot about sentience and perspective.

I'm not a big fan of religions, even though, it had its uses in helping us shape our moral core, it also shed some unrealistic expectations about what to believe and what to question or not question.

Many atrocities have been and are still committed in the name of religion, because those who commit these acts believe that it is just, and as such, do not question the nature of the actions they performed. Blind faith makes people do stupid and cruel things.

I believe that one of humanity's greatest obstacle to overcome, is the fear of the unknown, which means that to overcome this, we must stop blindly believing in any form of religion and we must instead have faith in ourselves.

Good and Evil are state of mind and of actions.

    Nothing is inherently either.

Killing to defend oneself is not evil.

Life is sacred, not because it is divine, but because we should have the moral conviction that it is.

That being said, if someone goes out of there way and kill someone in an heinous crime, then their life should have no meaning and/or value.

Anyways, I think that as humans, we will only survive and move forward when we start accepting that our challenge in life is to master who we are in every possible way. Whatever our potentials are, we shouldn't stop progressing because of dogma and religion. We should take every step possible in ensuring our survival. It could be that in the end, our key to immortality lies within ourselves to be discovered and we keep coming back as new iterations to continue the journey.

Well, that's my opinion here! :)

  23. Re:Maybe.. on When Will My Computer Understand Me? · · Score: 1

I think it should be more generic.. instead of trying to understand us, it should try to just learn by experience.. At first, it's mostly about what they can see, hear, obviously 'read' although that is where the internet comes in with the vast amount of data. But in the end, communication isn't just communication, it's an experience. Maybe that's the way to do it for machines. Building something which can gain from experience or should I say, let it experience events and things and let it learn and dissect this information and from there, let it learn to express itself. Again, if that makes any sense.

  24. Maybe.. on When Will My Computer Understand Me? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Instead of trying to build computers that can understand us, we should be building computers that can learn based on stimuli. If a computer can somehow see, and hear, at the very least and it could somehow capture this information and then over time, develop algorithms to make sense of these things. You know.. the code it would generate could then be used ... Anyways, sounds crazy, but, to me, it makes more sense that way. After all, we didn't just 'communicate' instantly, we learned over time.
