    I've ran across EEs, MEs, CEs, you get the idea, here in the US that insisted that software coders, Computer scientists, or LAN engineers were not engineers. Basically, they said that their profession was based on physical laws - engineering is applied physical science - whereas CS is based on man made rules just like grammar and writing. And you don't see writers being called "language engineers". Snobbery? Maybe, but I kind of sympathize with them because looking at all of the different computer languages, computational methods, etc... I can see their point.

    After my post above, I saw all the Ron Paul posts. WTF is my problem! - I'm not being sarcastic either!

    That's our media for you - /. included! All I see on Yahoo, Google, and radio, (No TV anymore) are the above candidates for Republican. And when you consider that I pass a huge billboard for Paul all the time, I'm pathetic! I've been brainwashed by the media into thinking there's only 3 (Three) Rep candidates.

    We as a country are in sorry shape if I'm the norm!

    Huckabee - Caters to the religious nuts - no way.

    Romney: just a gut feeling about him and I can't really place it - he's way too smooth. And to be honest, being a Mormon creeps me out a bit (gold tablets from God?!?) - as much as a devout Christian, or anything else would.

    McCain: I don't agree with everything he stands for (he's anti-abortion), but I love his attitude of fiscal conservativeness and straight talking.

    I have heard that Bush was furious that Texas was not chosen, pulled a few strings and the project was cancelled.

    Now that sounds plausible. I've spent the afternoon, on and off since this story was posted, trying to figure out why W went against Big Business for the first time. Now, it makes sense.

    If you've got battlebots, why not have one against another to resolve international conflicts, rather than destroy infrastructure and the like?

    I'd rather send the humans whose interest is best served by a war to fight each other. For example, if someone who would profit if a dictatorship in the Middle East is to be disbanded really wants it to go away, then he should go over and fight said dictator himself - mano a mano. None of this shit of sending young people over to fight for his oil. Especially, when they joined the military to protect their country and maybe to pay for an outrageously overpriced college education: no one signed up to fight for oil.

    Let's save the resources for the robots for productive reasons: medicines, ending poverty, improving education, food .....

    Just about every freekin job add I see requires the ability to multi task. I used to say that I can't do it. Now, I just say that I'm as good at it as any other human. Most of the gung ho corporate types insist that they can multi task wonderfully and trying to reason with them is pointless.

    I have a gay relative and I'll leave it that because I don't want to inadvertently out him, and upon opening and pointing to his new MacBook he said, "Yep, I'm gay!"

    Some of you folks need to get a fucking grip! And it's funny, folks who are offended are usually NOT the subject of the joke. They are sanctimonious PC people who just like to bully others. I think they (white liberal morons living in their gated all white communities who get offended at "off color" jokes are assholes.

    anti jock, but getting outside and playing some sort of sport or game is much better than sitting in front of a computer on their ass playing games. And lets be honest, how many "thinking puzzle solving" games are actually played? Most are just mind numbing shoot'em up games or get the cartoon (marketing placement-advertising) character through easy hurdles. Yes, it requires a little hand-eye coordination and spatial abilities, but let's face, those skills would be better learned teaching the kid art and sports. Plus, the sports will help the kid keep his weight in control which seams to be an issue this day and age.

    A friend of mine coaches kids for weight loss in the "Shape Down" program. Among the things that are no-nos are TV and video games: including educational games. It's encouraged to get outside and get some physical activity.

    ask your HR department and your bosses about it.

    My opinion is only get an MBA if:

    The company will pay for it.

    You can do your homework on the job.

    and you get it from Harvard, Yale, Wharton, Stanford ...in that order and only from those schools (The business magazine ratings are full of shit). Otherwise, MBA degrees are completely worthless. I know, I have one and it was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made.

    But besides that there is nothing in OS/2 which is interesting anymore.

    As someone who actually worked on OS/2 in Boca, I can honestly say that the networking in Fedora 8 and any other Linux distributions is much better than OS/2 ever was. OS/2's networking was a pig and a pain to configure.

    The same goes for the desktop - Linux is actually better, now.

    File system: Linux is, I think, there on par with OS/2 and Windows for that matter.

    Also, much of the OS/2 tech and code is also used in some other proprietary OS *cough*Windows*cough*, so it'll never be Open Sourced.

    Had to fix that for you. Go back and read any /. article about NASA problems and just see the posts from folks who "know better" than the rocket scientists.

    I think I had too much coffee this morning. I'm feeling a bit cranky.
