I'm a Government conservative and a social liberal (I think we should stop violating the Constitution, get rid of the IRS, stop these stupid wars, religion doesn't belong in Government, I don't give a rat's ass who you sleep with, and I don't see why gays can't get married). I vote third party and if there's not third party candidate, I abstain with the naive hope that the politicians will notice somehow.
As usual, Congress did a lot of spouting off about how to manage perceived Internet perils. Hot topics this time around included foreign cybersecurity threats to U.S. government systems, terrorist cells flourishing on the Web, inadvertent file sharing through peer-to-peer networks, and sexual predators ensnaring unsuspecting youth through online social sites. And for a third time, the House passed not just one, but two, different bills aimed at deterring spyware.
Because, that's what your typical voter is concerned about because that's what they understand and what's been hyped in the media. Of course Congress is going to spout off about those things. They want to get elected. The other topics are topics that only the tech folks are really concerned about and there's not enough of them to pander to to get elected. Joe "Tech Ignorant, Keep my job and Family values" Schmoe is were to get the votes.
...and avoid distractions better, which certainly will help you achieve more success.
Every job that I see these days says something like "ability to multi-task" in their descriptions. Avoiding distractions will make it harder to "multi task" because multi tasking is just moving from one distraction to another and doing all your job functions poorly. I really hate the corp types who insist that they can multi task well when all of brain science says otherwise.
Ha, we'd pull ours down and sell 'em. They'll be called American Camera Chop shops. "ACCs" for short. I can see it now, gangstas running around and selling cameras. It'll happen.
Ban children from the Internets. By all means build a kindernet and police an regulate it to fuck, but leave the adult net alone.
Why not? Have a.kid domain, have the kid oriented content publishers (ex. Disney, FisherPrice ) finance it, and let parents restrict the internet to that domain.
Yeah, and if you're arrested by mistake or acquitted after trial, no one will care. They'll just see some entry in the FBIs database and assume the worst. I think there should be some way that someone who's been falsely accused to get some compensation for not being able to work ever again. Let's face it, if you have any sort of criminal record - true or false - you can never get a job, loan, etc... your life is in effect ruined. And this database will make that much easier for it to be done.
Privacy advocates worry about the ability of people to correct false information. "Unlike say, a credit card number, biometric data is forever," said Paul Saffo, a Silicon Valley technology forecaster. He said he feared that the FBI, whose computer technology record has been marred by expensive failures, could not guarantee the data's security. "If someone steals and spoofs your iris image, you can't just get a new eyeball," Saffo said.
That's the thing, mistakes are made and if the Government starts acting like the Dept. of Homeland Security and refuse to show you your file and correct it for "security reasons", basically your life will be fucked because of incompetence or even malice. The "law and order types" are all for it but they just have way too much faith in technology and our Government's ability to act with our best interests and freedom in mind.
With heat death, the big crunch and quite a few other nasty ways in which the universe could see its demise, we can now add "running out of time" to the list.
The best e-book for me is not an eBook, but the good ol' old fashioned ones with covers!
I'm with you. And, I went to my local library and got a card. And now, I have access to thousands of titles for the cost of my tax dollars.
I think a big part of the popularity of the e-readers is because it's just another gadget. Folks will come up with plenty of rationalizations as to why they need it or how it's so superior to a book. But that's the consumer mentality, I guess. It goes the same for fast cars (need them to merge with traffic!), SUVs (safety after all and I have kids!), computers, cameras, etc...
Very broadly, this spectrum is divided into two bands -- the lower and upper 700 MHz. The lower band is 48 MHz wide, and the upper band is 60 MHz wide. Of the upper 60 MHz, 24 MHz is being reserved for public safety, according the to FCC.
The 747- to 792-MHz portion of the spectrum, which includes a highly coveted swath known as the "C Block," is now used for commercial UHF television. But federal law now mandates that broadcasters convert to digital TV signals by 2009, so they're handing this particular chunk of spectrum back to the FCC (in return for new UHF spectrum).
So, I guess VHF TV frequencies will be auctioned off soon too? Or is that going to be completely used by radio services (Marine, some aviation and some consumer goods.)?
...so that IE8 (1) continues to work with the billions of pages on the web today that already work in IE6 and IE7
Would anyone mind if they had rewrite their web pages or at the very least, remove the code that checks for the version of IE and if it is IE in the first place? I wouldn't mind.
...the interview process should not be about short technical questions and acronym definitions. It should entail an open discussion with significant give and take
I tell the candidate that he has 60 seconds to break into the Pentagon while I hold a gun to his head and a really hot chick gives him a blow job. And it's give a take: he breaks into the Pentagon, and he gets a blow job. Win win!
makes Dell's strategy as some sort of new thing. It's just Dell's never ending quest to make his computers cheaper and cheaper to keep the margins not as thin. In other words, ditch Windows and its tax and put Linux on and save, what, $30 per PC in costs.
Believe it or not, those people are human beings too. They can be insulted and almost anyone can afford to walk away from $100 because the person offering insulted them.
OK. That's negotiation. Unless you're Amazon, being without your domain name for a while really isn't that big of a deal. Dirt bags like those people who grabbed that domain name shouldn't be rewarded.
They'll probably come back with a ridiculous counter offer. Keep offering the 100, and they'll eventually take it.
I would say start lowering it. They come back with $5,000: come back with $50.
Those people are out for easy money. Easy money should be peanuts or less.
Be prepared to walk so that they'll lose and they'll lose because the domain name is only good to the person who's responsible for this article. Meaning, after they're registration time is up, they'll abandon it themselves. Paying them is to only get it back sooner.
Why not third party?

Then you'd be the man in the Ion mask!
Thank you! And have a Happy New Year!

Also, the flight crew has only so many blankets.
I don't know. That guy sure looked nerdy to me and he did a really nerdy, maybe even dorky thing.
Yes, please!
Ha, we'd pull ours down and sell 'em. They'll be called American Camera Chop shops. "ACCs" for short. I can see it now, gangstas running around and selling cameras. It'll happen.
Would the equivalent of a root kit be some guy with a flint-lock taking over a station?

Sorry, it's the Holidays getting me down.
just posting to get my meta mod link back.....
My guess is "no."
Yeah, especially when you consider that much of the Chinese economy is based on pirated stuff.

This might be a good place to land a Mars mission because you could use the ice to create oxygen, water, fuel etc....and keep the beer cold.
My interview process was in a movie? I mean, yeah, it's a reference.

Cue asshat politicians and bureaucrats to order this service dumbed down or removed because of the potential use by terrorists.
