Good point. Hell, we're switching to hot site from tape/disc. The price of active backup is actually LESS than the cost of your typical DR setup (depending on your company's size.)
Because magnetic media fails, badly, often, and at any time.
It is in NO way a long term backup solution.
And you don't expect the first generation of this system to fail?! Heh.
Magnetic doesn't fail as much as you make it sound. We have 100s of TB backed up on 400 GB Tivoli tapes and rarely lose a tape. If we do, its not the media itself... a pin from a tape will get stuck in the drive (from the tape being mishandled -- someone dropped it a few times.) The media itself is still usable.
BTW... our tapes run about $50 each. You can find a 20 TB tape library for under $9K. And yes, it is a long term solution. We've had our Tivoli/ADSM products for 15 years.... and they still work (and so do the tapes.)
Actually I think that works against you, they would be more confident that search results are really you. If you have a common name then they would have little confidence.
I think they were talking about getting your credit report screwed up. This happened to me... its very common for companies to do public searches for data and then report the INCORRECT info to the credit reporting agency (credit "bureau"). If you have a unique name, it will be easier to single you out. If you're a criminal, that's bad -- easier to find you. If you aren't... that's good -- easier to keep your records straight.
Exactly! I'll admit that the $$$ boxes like PS3 and Xbox 360 have some pretty graphics, PCs are still better. I already have a DVD player, a stereo system and a computer. Why would I want to buy a PS or Xbox? What can they offer that I can't already do?
On the other hand... the Wii DOES have something to offer, yet its not the graphics powerhouse that its 'competitors' are. Oh and as a little bonus, Wii is cheaper by about 50%.
Sony and Microsoft have to be really pissed about it. They must be like, buuuuuut.... uh.... our graphics are better. And... uh... our controllers vibrate! Does that count as motion control?
I work for a large healthcare org/med school. We're rapidly approaching 10K employees and IT is paramount in the new paperless, wireless world of modern healthcare. My team (four of us) are responsible for our 8 or so different workstation images, email (groupwise), SSL VPN, LDAP(s), etc. etc. etc. I can't tell you how many times a week we get stopped in our tracks to support a crackberry or treo for one VIP becuase appointments arent synching. In the real world... when VIPs want something fixed, you fix it. So to the person that first replied... that pl1ght was an ass kisser... you don't know what its like in that situation, obviously. These are the people who write your paycheck and approve your raises. Do you really want to piss them off?
Being a little more on topic: I think IT as a whole is becoming mired in red tape as the field matures further. Most of the IT management were admins of some sort years ago. What is funny is they get just as caught up in policy as the non-IT folks do. The point is... if you're not in the thick of it, you just don't get it.
I disagree.... your typical linux flavor isn't 100% functional with everything right out of the box either. Good luck getting anyone to support it... or finding a friend that knows it. For the tech unsavvy, I think Windows is fairly easy. It's not my first choice, but for my grandparents.... its much easier (and cheaper - thanks grandpa) than many other choices out there
I guess I'm the only one that wanted to see 7, 8, and 9. Most people hated Luke Skywalker... but as a kid, I thought he was the greatest. So, I guess the kid in me still wants to see more. More Han Solo/Lando Calrissian would be interesting as well.
iNougat?
He clearly meant "Nougat".
Why not just file a motion to quash? Interesting.
If they do learn to throw barrels at least we know the solution to that problem: hire some Italian plumbers.

I'm real glad I have a rare enough name.

Kinda like the muppet babies, only more Rastafarian influence.
Don't you mean Pastafarian?
