Geez, that IS bloated. I wonder if it's just the 64-bit version that's like that. If I get the time, I'll install both to better educate myself on the subject.
Functionally, their "32 GB SSD drive" has about 7 GB of usable space before it maxes out in which they have to fit all their programs, utilities, miscellaneous pictures/video of the kids, games... or they can buy a normal laptop and we can get them a 500 GB internal drive and they're good to go for a decently long while.
And THAT is why the SSD's, even though OEM's would love to use them for marketroid reasons, are going to be a long time in making anything obsolete. I wouldn't use anything less than a 500GB drive for a machine today, whether laptop OR desktop, and the largest commercial SSD currently is a mere 128 GB.
His assertion is that 32GB is insufficient to run a functional system on. I asserted otherwise using my system as an example. While it's highly likely that a Vista install is larger than an XP install, it's unlikely that it's nearly 10GB larger.
So yes, I call shenanigans on his primary assertion; however I cannot speak to the availability of Sony drivers for a laptop.
I call shenanigans on this. I'm running on a 32Gb SSD using XP pro with all the trimmings, VS2005 SP1 (With full MSDN install), Office 2007, VMWare, Firefox, Chrome, Picasa, GIMP, Photoshop CS3, and Cygwin (just to name the largest programs). I've still got 12GB of free space.
Throw in some external storage in the form of a USB drive and I've got a system that boots in ~10 seconds, restarts in ~15, and cut my compile time by a factor of 10.
Not to mention all the apps open a lot more quickly. I don't know if I can go back to a non-SSD setup honestly. I've got one at home and I almost never use it anymore...need to switch that one over.
I've got to say, from an IOPs perspective, that's extremely disappointing. ~24k IO/s max @ 8k. By their own chart they're getting about 233 IO/s per disk. I can get 1500 on a USB key on my desktop @ 8k. Granted, that's only running in 1 thread (they're using 128 which comes with some overhead).
I dunno, it just seems really low. I expected something more in the 200k-300k range.
Am I missing something critical? Are they running over a 100Mb network?
I dunno, they've got a good point. If no light is getting in to the object being cloaked, then it's not just invisible, it's blind...so while you wouldn't see much in the Sorority Girls' dorm, you could have loads of laughs feeling up anything that crossed your path.
Because I bought it 6 years ago and am too lazy to dig through the mountains of crap that have accumulated in my garage for the shiny plastic disc.
If there were no free alternative, it would motivate me.
In the case I never owned it, I'll go with whatever's convenient. It would be places like Amazon music or iTunes, but the DRM means it'll be a hassle down the road, so I'll put up with having to download most of someone's discography in a torrent to get the song I'm looking for, and edit the tags to match my collection manually.
Really? I'm in the US and it changed two weeks ago for me. When I first saw it, the wasted space bothered me, but I tried using it and found that I like it better. People just like to complain.
I've got one of these for my HTPC, stows well with the keyboard in a coffee table drawer for when the computer is not what's on screen. It works very well. I sit about 10' from my TV (under which the dongle sits) and it's fairly infrequent that I get missed connection with it. Though I did have it behind the TV for a while and it was extremely spotty then, so YMMV.
Also, they're not cheap, wait for them to go on sale online or at Fry's. Got mine for $60 for the mouse/kbd combo...two years ago.
No, it's a still camera, try clicking the link before saying it's not something it is.
Yeah, I've been getting a lot of flack since I changed mine to DE.AD.C0.ED
Ah, found it in Canon EOS
Does anyone remember this? I pretty sure my dad had a camera that did this. A Nikon if I remember correctly...which I usually don't.

I mean, what's Russian for "Oh sh*t we're all gonna die!" anyway?
ÑÒ Ð...Ò¥ÐÓ Ð©Ñ''ÐÐ Ó'll ÒÑÑÓ" ÑÐÐ!
hrmmm...Cyrillic fail?
I'd say it's capturing it from anyone who's used a system with a good one. I can't stand my home system anymore. My work system uses an SSD.

Pedantasuses?
No script. Learn it, love it.

I'm curious because I've seen off the shelf AMD 2U servers hit over 1M IOPs...can they do better?

what do you bake those with?
It is hard to even find a "news" show any longer

sqrt(-49) cores to be pedantic.
I saw it as NSFW...which considering I'm supposed to be working, it's probably better that way.
Ugh, where's the +1 'that sucks'? How do you mod this? Insightful? Interesting? I guess interesting.

I agree on principal though and would rather see it as insightful given the audience...even though I disagree with the argument.

Does the iPhone not have an OS? Can it run Linux?
limited beta != beta != google beta
ever use gmail? it's still in 'beta' but people depend on it. It's my primary e-mail.
I think they're trying to imply that having a slightly more limited tester base than the entire world would have done them a little good.
