they say that we "lose BTU's in the summer but regain them in the winter" (paraphrasing)
however, has anyone taken into account that people drive more in the summer? think about it, when are kids off of school? when do people take vacations? it's tourist season!
i mean, not that i shouldn't drive more than absolutely necessary, but still...
maybe gas prices are actually do a little bit of good, because people will drive less, carpool, take public transportation, buy fuel-efficient cars, etc..... not that i'm saying that gas prices should be high.
what i saw on the news was "oil companies said that insulation costs would be prohibitively high" so i said "build a sensor." apparently that costs's prohibitively high as well..... is it really that high??
does anyone else think that gas prices are prohibitively high for me to drive around more than is absolutely necessary?
I can't believe the civilization as advanced as ours is full of people who can't even program a computer. It's just odd. Advanced? We're so amazingly primitive we still think digital watches are a good idea. (or something like that)
Easy - why not legalize marijuana as well? Create an industry around it, tax it all the way from distribution to the point-of-sale, & derive the benefits THIS way, instead?? I am not saying "HEY EVERYONE - SMOKE POT!", but for those that do? Tax them if they want to buy it. Make it a CA$H CROP, & gain by it, for starters! if they legalize marijuana, it will also put the drug dealers out of business. (at least, marijuana dealers)
you probably can't get flood insurance in new orleans. (at least, i don't think so.)
i have a beach house on the SC coast. we have the house on stilts, with two rooms on the bottom with "breakaway" walls (they supposedly will just break away w/ enough water or wind. this cuts the flood insurance way down.
so if they do have flood insurance, get your house on stilts anyway.
ALSO, you might want to look into using these nails that were especially made for hurricanes/earthquakes. They will hold your house together a lot better.
The good thing about email is that it is cheap. Other than having an Internet connection, email is free (from most places). This is much cheaper and faster than spending 41 cents on stamps and mailing snail mail.

Well, I check Slashdot like every 2 minutes to check and read stories. I think that kills my concentration more than email.

What if they just put the tanks deeper underground? would it affect it at all?

It's time for a RFID-blocking wallet!

i guess my "humor" is someone else's "flamebait." then again, maybe it was humourous flamebait.
Great. Darwin's islands in danger...... what more could the anti-global-warming-no-separation-of-church-and-st ate-neocons want?
you're right, the old mini is much cooler.
funny..... my gigabyte motherboard just died.
lightbulbs are like 98% inefficient anyway.
Not to mention that the USPS is not gov't funded..... only by stamps. (hence, they keep raising the price)

How much does global warming relate to pirates?
at least you wouldn't have to buy a heat pump for that room.
Here are five ideas for a New Orleans House printed in Popular Science recently after Katrina hit. They are really good ideas.

Hope this works!
Yep. Don't steal, the government hates competition.

OK... I am an atheist... but this does remind me of a certain story in the bible. [wikipedia.org]
