Right, I understand that they do not want pops for this reason. All they would have had to do was change the amount of shares. Now the market is setting the price where it belongs, at $25. Ahh, but to do that would be risky as well since demand may not consume all of the available shares, leaving the initial investors holding stock at the end of the day. I realize that the price was set based on hype and pricing models that showed what would bring in the most cash (Laffer style). That is why the offering price was changed after the hype had a chance to set in (think the pricing model considers buzz?). Not very "markety" to me, but what can you do.
People, mostly kids, are maintaining two accounts to section off various social circles. In other words, they maintain a page parents know about and and the real one they do not know about. I'm betting adults are doing the same. I know you can control who sees what from your account, but there is no easy "dashboard way" to handle everything without it becoming a full time job. Just maintain two accounts, one for private (close friends), one for everything else (employers, family, church).
Windows 8 isn't bad, but if they think they can alienate developers they have another thing coming. There are more platforms than ever to develop for, and the most exciting ones are those which are not locked in to a certain vendor (web apps based on open source tools, libraries, and servers). I don't think Microsoft has the positioning to charge developers anything to participate in their new app store. Windows 8 is a good OS and a testament to the ability of the Windows team. Some people do not like it, especially geeks, but I think it will be a hit with consumers in general. Hopefully they do not run off the developers, developers, developers!
Any time you shave off the woolly parts the market slaps your hand. It is not the 30% that is the problem, it is the restrictions placed on the developer and the consumer that tame the potential for wild success. In those cases we have traded potential danger and great gain for safety and stifled innovation. Any time you regulate something, you get LESS of it. The app stores have tons of toys (fart apps and games), but I can't see a serious business application vendor risking their business on an app store.
ASUS doesn't get it and probably never will. They make some cool stuff, but the execution is lacking in ways I can't quite put my finger on (haven't made a big study of it). Maybe their marketing staff is tuned to the OEM side, therefor lacking the vision of creating a comprehensive product for delivery straight to customers. Definitely something to do with the distribution and segmentation strategies.
Nope. The whole point of engaging the market is that you have as much responsibility for losses as you do gains. If you start paying people BECAUSE they lost then the entire system is undermined.
Really, he could easily lose control of his company depending on his current equity position. Even if he owns a controlling portion it wouldn't be that hard to pressure him into relinquishing it. It will come down to who has the most dominant personality among the resident power brokers. Zynga is experiencing turbulence as well, which is not a surprise since they are too closely coupled with FB. I've always wondered about the wisdom of that marriage--for Zynga anyway. Their CEO has pulled 300 million in various stock deals over the last year--he is shoring himself up.
They priced it too high. If it was offered at $25 a share (probably the true value) it would have popped to around $50 and drifted down to $40. This is what happen when you price something wrong on the market. It gets thrown off balance and the pricing pressure results in pain.
My wife doesn't care what OS she uses to access the web and the Facebook. But if one thing is missing down the road that requires windows, the subject comes up big, and Windows better appear quick.
Back in the early eighties and possibly still, they developed a mainframe computer system in-house to handle their printing operation which is quite extensive. Other than that, they are a sorry ass bunch.
Fuck that. I'm never trying another Ubuntu install until the download page says 64 bit (recommended). For some reason, is says "recommended" next to the 32 bit selection on the drop down. I have run the 64bit version extensively and have tried to get it running properly, no dice. Why would you use a 32 bit OS these days? It is slower and limited on memory.
A stupid "PC World-ish" question at that. Every time a I see something that looks genuinely retarded posted to/. I look up and see timothy's name. Fucking format the drive, or just delete your shit. WTF?!
People in Florida like to soak in the water, Manhattan not so much.

Whoa, you forgot about the drastic increase in expenses which crushed the revenue increase.
Funny? It is more than a pain in the ass for technologists and probably lends some explanation as to why spammers make millions.
Oh my god. It is worse than I thought.

Then why isn't he removed?
My god, have we all not read this article two times yet? I was expecting something new.

I see the price of Windows coming down. I can't ever remember Microsoft offering a new OS for $40, yet it is happening, and it will spur adoption.
Man, I ask people what browser they are using and I get panicked, confused looks.

Awesome. I'm a slashdotian!

XP = Windows key, R, appwz.cpl, ncpa.cpl.....
Windows 7 = Windows key, appwiz.cpl...ncpa.cpl....
Super quick and easy. When you are on the phone, the first thing they need to do is open a command line.
why do people care if they get downmodded?

The sooner we stop responding to timothy posts the better.
