It is a mess actually. The moderators on your typical facebook group are not up to the task. In addition, if someone posts something controversial and you take offense, the mods or group owner will ban you immediately to prevent you from complaining. I was in a group for a year or two and I jokingly took offense at a "african boy meme" that someone posted (I forget what the words were). The group owner immediately banned me so that it would be hard for me to complain. I no longer had access to the group or my comments or the comments of others. If I was really upset and wanted to complain to facebook I would have had to contact facebook manually and tried to guide them through the group postings to find the offensive post. If someone does complain about something successfully...your group will most likely be shut down immediately. Saw that happen a few times. I no longer find any value in FB groups. They have taken the basic principles of internet forums and systematically destroyed them on their platform.
Making the world better by pay-walling basic forums? "Mr. Zuckerburg...how does this play in with the strategy of connecting the world when you are helping to reverse decades of free information exchange?"
So true. If I here a bunch of talking before getting to the meat of the video I just try to find another one. Video is for fast information. A lot of them sound like they are reading their SEO-jacked blog post.
Businesses are not the military. I think a lot of people, especially those programmed to live within the hierarchy of command just take it for granted that the military forms and conduct somehow extend to civilian life and companies. They think in terms of this hierarchy as a form of nature. Perhaps it is. As soon as people started growing crops and the population increased in the bronze age we started fighting like crazy and haven't really stopped.
Except that previous to agriculture and the resultant city states (later culminating into nations with nuclear weapons) humans were free--working very little and always on an ideal schedule. Yay...a bunch of us can live at once! What could go wrong?
" 'code of conduct' gets developed at a large company in order to treat employees more or less equally,"
Incorrect. It is a rule made by sociopaths to maintain control. Upper management rarely thinks in terms of culture, fairness, and compassion. Even more rare when dealing with the company.
This is modded funny but it is probably true to some extent. Like the elite punishing one of their own for straying from the gene pool. Not unheard of.
"Preventing liability through artificial constraints on base human instincts is a shit way to manage a company. "...and yet this is the best that a sociopathic monkey can manage. Welcome to Earth.
The Jesus Myth was just a way to impart a new way of thinking about how to organize ourselves and our governments to be compassionate and happy without accumulating stuff. It has not been implemented widely but it is there for the taking. I don't know of any "teachings of Jesus."
Perhaps it is. As pointed out by Joseph Campbell though, religion is like software: a code of laws aimed at a specific goal. It works, but only in the context of its invention. Using it in the wrong domain creates problems.
I can live like that without video games--and have. I think most men have always been that way--it is our nature bestowed by evolution. I programmed instead of playing video games though. Another form of addiction I guess.
Right. We are on a slippery slope here. If they keep running their mouth about game addiction they are afraid of losing credibility when it leads to that same conclusion you point out about facebook. Sort of like when the Supreme Court is debating a sensitive ruling/case and they weasel out of it to maintain credibility with the proletariat.
We have known the dangers of sugar for years but we keep on stuffing it in our neck by the pound. The state trying to do somethihng about it would be too risky because even though it may be the right measure to ban it or limit its production or volume in food the backlash from society would erase the effort and persecute the sponsors.
Imagine trying to tell everyone that their facebook use is harmful, codifying it in a peer-reviewed medical journal. The AMA wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole lest they lose the credibility and power they have over us right now. Not tot mention they are addicted as well.
Agreed. This is odd on several fronts and really goes against FaceBook's stated core mission.

I second this.
Definitely. If things were going good and they were hitting on all cylinders this would not have seen the light of day.

Right. So make it adapt, its the way the phones were designed and the user expects that the experience will change based on their preferences.
Vertical? Do they mean portrait orientation? In the information age it seems people keep getting dumber--and are having trouble communicating.
Denying access to China....
First move in preventing orbital access to China for military hardware etc..
The trend is simplified config files over XML/JSON. So yeah...back to Windows ini files it is.
What is it about deleting reams of code that arouses me? This is a story I can cheer.

Hit the nail on the head. Damn.
Every organization is political.
Forget it. I have asked many times for clarification only to be accused of being creimer.

There is a laundry list of behavior we could enumerate.
Sugar, the drug everyone can agree on. Main ingredient for cancer---cant sell any food without loading it in.
