I may have to dust it off and enjoy some Max goodness. And as always this is my 02c,YMMV

I read that 3 is supposedly coming out in either late this year or early '09.

Even if you look back to the NES where we only had a few major developers there was a lot of quality games made, games that pushed the hardware to the limit. In the SNES/Genesis era things stayed the same. But once we got to the PS1/N64 era, we got flooded with a ton of really crappy games.

I seem to recall plenty of terrible games for the Atari 2600 and NES. It just didn't seem that way at the time.

...then midway into the '90s something started to go terribly, terribly wrong. Every movie had some lame video game tie-in, games started to all be the same, originality seemed to be confined to first-party developers.

    Remember ET for the 2600?

The truth of the matter, of course: they "try" it right till the end, or whatever point they don't feel like playing it anymore. It's just as much bullshit as the "backups" euphemism.

Exactly. It reminds me of the same thing they try to say about stealing mp3s, "if I like it I'll go out and buy the album" or "if I like it I'll graciously and magnanimously go see the band", etc. I also like your sig about the GNU scene. I'm sure that'll get me branded as flamebait now!

Even after following your link to a conservative website I fail to see how what he said is so unreasonable. He is basically saying that we should be like the rest of the world and have our children learn multiple languages early on. Spanish would be fairly useful since there are many people in the US that speak Spanish. This is my problem with conservative personalities these days. They try to take these things out of context to make it seem like what Obama says is horrible. But every time I look at the full transcript of what he says, he comes off extremely reasonable. This link didn't even hide the context. So really, what's the big deal?

The big deal is that their target audience will never bother to read the article, and they know it.

However, if you can't be convinced to take up Latin, but want another language quickly, check out Esperanto. If you want another language with which you can communicate with people immediately, find a large contingent of native something speakers at your school and befriend them, i.e. learn a language which your peers can help you learn and practice. It might even score you a girlfriend/boyfriend.
