Is that not enough?

Disclaimer: I actually have an Xbox360 in my living room right next to a gamecube...RE:4 ftw.

By that same logic, shouldn't Vista be a dominating force then? I don't mean to be rude, it's just that I think your overestimating Microsoft's ability to listen and change.

Since you stated in your example, Microsoft by no means wants you to mess with their stuff. If that were so, then why are not seeing more third-party controllers for the Xbox 360? I mean, currently, $45 dollars for a wireless controller? I'm not saying other console makers are different(yet).

I do agree with your point about the techie will build a system to fit his/her needs, but there is a point where they say "fuck it." and go a different route, say a media pc running MythTV or the such. At that point, xbox is good for your haloz and occasional viva pinata (sorry, to lazy to find the right characters.)

I will say, their online service, while very pricey to someone who has been a pc man, is refreshing to use. I wish Nintendo would roll with something similar but not as a expensive.

The move to separate Xbox into it's own division was a blessing of sorts. But what is going to happen when Halo 3 excitement dies down and stops pushing xboxes? Bungie is now on their own, freeing them to pursue other projects and other consoles.

  5. Re:Microsoft will win next generation on 360 And Halo 3 Push Past the Wii's Sales · · Score: 1

XBox has the best name recognition now for "modern gaming" amoung both techies, because of all the successful mod'ing, and more casual users because of Microsoft's excellent marketing. The primary reason for these mods is because people see the good the console can do, but disgusted by microsoft's policies. Take for instance the Hard drive on the 360. Is it necessary to apply a proprietary connection for what is already standard data storage and THEN charge a person out the ass for it?

I'm not even going to get into how bad the media center extender works. Unless Microsoft suffers a stroke and suddenly lets people view videos in whatever codec they want, your essentially locking people into that. Otherwise, people continue to HAVE to innovate just to get the thing to meet their expectations.
Sheesh, might as well just get a project called Gbox and GBox360 with all the work the community has to pick up, thanks to microsoft.

So in conclusion, shill, go beat your bongo drum in another circle.
  6. Maybe it's not the technology... on Why Can't I Buy A CableCARD Ready Set-Top Box? · · Score: 3, Interesting

The technology is out there for this. I think the main problem lies with those who are peddling(or in this case NOT) telling people what they need. From my personal Experience:
My dad bought a 58 inch LCD open box from best buy a month or so ago. No rep explained it's functionality to him really. I forget the make now, but it had a cable card slot and a Hard drive for DVR. Off he goes to get HD from Time Warner. They say "hey, you need a box." They didn't ask what TV he had or if it was Card ready.

    Moral of the story?
Come thanksgiving, I'm putting a Cable card in the TV for him and hope there is no ensuing SNAFU that prevents him from getting his HD channels. By himself, he would have had no clue what he needed. His only hope *I* see would have been to get an company cable installer who would see the situation and get him the card.

Actually, I did beat it. Sure some parts are strategic, such as taking down the AA on the ark. I'm just saying that the environment in halo 3 is, most of the time, eye candy for you to hide behind while your shields recharge. If you want a game that makes GREAT use of cover, Gears of War fits the bill. Now, Halo Multiplayer is different entirely. Players will bank grenades off walls, fire at your exit or cover. Not so with Single player, where the AI relies on numbers (the flood) rather than strategy....well maybe except for the damn gravity hammers.

    1. Explosion Plasmid- The games got a decent physics set up. But why only let the grenade launcher have the fun?

    2. Rapture- The place is huuuuuge based on the opening scene. Lots of places like high-rises, were never fully touched. Let us fully explore it.

    3. Big Daddies- I thought one of the most enjoyable experiences was fighting those things. I always relished these fights as I quickly surveyed my surroundings for the best battle plan. Give us more scenarios which to fight these things, which leads me to....

    4. Environment- Rapture actually made me consider where i was going to run during a fight. As most fps'ers can attest (I'm looking at you Halo), you just duck, run, turn, kill. Bioshock's environment made me run to where I'd best be able to take the foes down, not simply hide. I'm not just running. I'm looking for water, or leading them away from water when I set them on fire. Give us more scenarios to exploit with plasmids(see #2 if your having trouble).

5.Story- Perhaps put the character into the role of a resident who didn't give in to the plasmid rush and is trying to get out. Remember those signs "Let this end! Let us Ascend!"? Now, they've gotta give into the plasmids they watched destroy rapture in order to escape...wow. that's actually not a bad idea.

    6. Those "minigames" got pretty damn annoying pretty quick. Every hackable device has the same puzzle setup. Once you hacked every device type once, you have seen the setup for every minigame. It doesn't differ, except in the minor ways you solver it. Give us some alternate minigames or cut the whole experience out.

    7. Optional: Multiplayer. Everyone and their mom has a multiplayer option now adays. Bioshock doesn't need it in my opinion, but then again, with the plasmids, you've got a pretty interesting setup.

8.Ummm....more plasmids?- The plasmid balance in the game was pretty neat I thought, so good that I was never thinking "Man, I wished they had made a plasmid." But with new scenarios and setups, I'm sure some ideas will come.

Bioshock is a pretty awesome game. There doesn't need to be a bunch of tweaks and adjustments to make it a game that you'd want to play. That said, even playing through it three times, you've gone through most of the scenarios the developers had in mind when they setup the level.
