They're dropping support for the 900? I didn't hear that, maybe I'm wrong. 7.8 will help and it's even possible, with Nokia anyway, that win8 could run on the 900, that isn't out of the question yet.
I have one and it works great. I got it because it's fun to write apps for. If I had to write apps in java for Android I'd shoot myself. iOS wouldn't be to bad, the painful part is not being able to do stuff as fast as I can in.NET but that would probably get better over time if I used it everyday. Using MonoTouch wouldn't be bad either, I have a project planned and want to get MT a try.
I've owned all 3, droid, iPhone, and now wp7. I'm biased though, I like wp7 because I can reuse skills I already have and use everyday, to write apps. Personally, I like metro.
I don't use the start menu, didn't realize how much I didn't use it until people complained that it was gone. I've used win8RP and get along fine without it.
As an independent I can charge 60/hr until the cows come home and never run out of clients and they think that's cheap, of course this is bypassing the greedy horrible recruiters.
I use to watch lots of movies using Amazon, Netflix, buy my own, and other sources. Now I just don't watch movies. Netflix stinks and when I want to watch something on Amazon it's usually a 48hour pre-release rental. Ugh, no, I'd like to watch it now, thanks. I decided the easiest thing to do was just not watch anymore. I listen to lots of music and purchase lots of music because Google Play makes it friction-less. I also read a ton now. I doubt that's the goal of the MPAA but they make it to damn difficult.
The problem with American football vs Rugby is in American football the gear (helmets) are better and the players use them as weapons. Without a helmet, you're probably not going to attack someone like you would if you were wearing one.

sabnzb + sickbeard + giganews = joy
Didn't miss it, the 90's joke is tired and stupid.
It's a good thing developing for metro is fun...
So the window with options like running task manager, lock, and shut down can be brought up? That's what ctrl alt del do on my win7 machine.

Yikes, what OS are you running? I haven't had to reboot win7 for...I can't remember.
That's a good idea.

The problem is, the demand is so nuts, where I live, even the bad programmers get jobs.
Interesting, I wonder what things it's missing, I use it everyday, what glorious features is it missing that older IDE's had.

You're comparing JBoss to .NET, interesting.
-1?, everything ProDev has posted is 100% true, the fact that gets modded down, on /., is a good sign, I think...
I got one a year ago, best desk ever.

To hell with cube's. And where I live, local companies still won't let people work remote which is funny because they also can't find developers.

You have dudes that are 6.5 270lbs running around at 20mph and smashing in to each other.
I have in app purchases turned off and protected but then again, I'm not stupid.
To join them you better have the $$$$$$$$$ because that's the only way it really works.

+1 to this.
It doesn't take much to convert a WP7 app to WP8. Well, that is if you follow MVVM and your apps aren't a code behind spaghetti mess.
