  1. Yep, that's Zuckerberg and Sandberg, for sure. The two of them should be buried up to their necks in a fire ant hill.

You can't expect a company, or anyone, to continue to support such an old device. Asuswrt-Merlin supports a wide range of Asus models, but they also stopped updating the n56u because the hardware is simply not up to modern standards anymore. I enjoy the support I get for my RT-AC87U from Asuswrt-Merlin.

  5. WTF is with the "I don't know what it is but it must be destroyed!" people? You make comments on something you admit you know nothing about, but you know for certain it must be bad? Holy F. If you bothered to gather even the most miniscule amount of information about the topic, you'd know that it is not "inefficient" or time-wasting. It is simply an additional service that could be very beneficial not only to the user but also the business, as it makes making an appointment or reservation easier for both sides.

The title makes it seem as if Skype was the infection vector, but reading the article will tell you it wasn't. The problem, as usual, is stupid people doing stupid things, "during this interview [the Skype call], the Redbanc employee was asked to download, install, and run a file named ApplicationPDF.exe, a program that would help with the recruitment process and generate a standard application form." Yes, Skype is a mess, but it didn't infect the computer system.

  8. I've used Thunderbird forever. I use it to access my Gmail account (IMAP) and have had no issues with it. I also have used the Lightning integration to access my Google Calendar successfully for many years. I couldn't live without them. My only issue is with the Thunderbird team breaking so many extensions every time they update.

  9. What really pisses me off about most modern flagship smartphones is the ugly ass notches, rounded display corners (retro CRT-style bullshit), and an obsession with gargantuan screens which are impossible to use one-handed (because to hell with ergonomics). Even Apple has joined in on this design idiocy.

I love my new Pixel 3 (not XL) for that very reason. A powerful phone that actually fits in my hand and pockets.

  10. Right now my big complaint is that when my phone pairs/connects with my wife's car (Lincoln MKX, Base Sync), IHeartRadio starts and runs in the background on its own. No other time does IHR run on its own. And I cannot yet find out why.

That's not Google's fault, that's your phone and its own issues. My phone pairs and connects with my Sync 3 system just fine, no issues. Typically, if the last music source on Sync 3 was your phone, your phone will then use whatever the default music app is. Evidently, IHeartRadio has been set as the default on your phone. If that's not what you wanted, blame IHeartRadio app, not Google.

I purchased a new, in original box, never opened Neato Botvac D5 Connected robot vacuum from a very reputable seller on eBay. After a month, the device stopped working. Neato tech support determined there was a circuitry problem and that the device should be replaced under warranty. Unfortunately, they would not honor that warranty because I had purchased it from an unauthorized reseller. Even though I had the original box, all the accessories, they acknowledged it was brand new and the serial numbers from the box and device matched, they would not honor the warranty because of where I had purchased it. Luckily, the seller accepted the return of the device and issued me a refund. But, he shouldn't have needed to do so. Can Neato legally get away with that?

  16. Xiaomi seems to have a good working relationship with Google, and their current handsets are well-made and on par with the best from other companies. I have a couple of their MiBox Android TV units that are exceptionally well-made and supported. So, hopefully, we'll get some carriers like T-Mobile offering the phones here. And I can use a freeware tool like MozBackup to move it to a new machine with no hassles, even a different operating system (like Linux).
