Actually, that is incorrect. I looked at Alienware's website last week and it was more like what Voodoo's site looks like now. Now it looks like it is part of Dell's site.
The Alienware website now looks and feels like the Dell website. Alienware is known for their customed, personalized computers geared towards the gamer or the high-end computer enthusiast with extra cash to throw around. Making the site look like Dell's has cheapened the experience, made me feel as if their product is no more better than a common Dell (while this could be arguably true) and will drive away their core market to companies like Voodoo and others. Change it back!
If I call the police and falsely claim there's a robbery when there isn't, I will be fined for false call.
If I call the police in what appeared to be a robbery, then no, a fine will not be levied. However, yes, there are plenty of politicians that need to be held accountable for their actions.
Slashdot needs to get out of the politics area when it has nothing to do with technology. That is my opinion. If they want to do an article on technology associated to the war, that is one thing, but to offer informative articles on GPL or RIAA and then throw out an article that is clearly not about technology in any form and completely is agenda laden is degrading to themselves and their readers and needs to be filtered out in the future.. If I wanted to read politically charged articles, I would tune into MSNBC or FoxNews.
You can't simply explain away how Clinton and Bush, England and the EU had the same information about WMD's (which is enough in my opinion for the actions taken) and how Saddam Hussein violated the UN 21 times without action from the UN, including firing on our jets in the no-fly zone. These were very addressible issues and in the opinion of most American's justified.
Yet again Slashdot decides to align itself on the Left. Never have I seen an article pro to the war on here. There are plenty of readers who believe in the campaign for this war yet the staff at Slashdot continues to leave us out and leave the realm of technology and place itself into politics. I for one believe the Politics section should be removed if there cannot be articles pro and con to the issues today.
However the majority of Canada's ~36 million or so population is in the southern part of the country. Smaller area to cover than - let's say - all the US.
Truth is any tool that works better. Scientific truth - that is, truth derived by the scientific method - works best of all, because it fits the physical world so well.
I believe truth is a reality, but human beings - with all our capabilities - are still too primitive to know truth for all things. This maybe confusing. For example, as you say quantum and classical mechanics. The truth maybe something so far complex and intricate that we can only see some of the properties of the mechanics within the known universe around us.
When logic and science can't explain why the wave hit you, perhaps religion can.
I say, just like any object, you can explain the properties and methods of the object as well as the theory and truth behind it. It all explains the wave.
I watched the trailer was appalled by the seemingly bad choice in character for Willy Wonka. I mean Johnny Depp is great in many movies, but he gives off a gothic aura that doesn't sit well with this character. At least by first impressions. I passed the link around the office and received the same kind of response. People were like, "WHAT?!" to "I don't know if I can say without seeing more.." Seems bleek..
Hmm.. So the Czech Republic spends a lot less but is that because their countries school-attending population is smaller say than to the US? I would like to see the percentages. And as for Korean schools, yes, I can say through knowing and working with immigrant Koreans that their school system is a *LOT* more strict when it comes to education. But a system similar to the Korean system of education would not fly here in the US (a.k.a long school days and attending school on Saturdays) as our cultures are different.
A reformation of our education system is a must, but the question is how and at what costs?
The most disappointing thing though with respect to critical thinking, and the part I must addmitt I don't fully understand, is the irrationality and shortsightedness of US voters. According to the CNN exit polls (off by 2-3%) the most important issue for voters where Moral values 22% and Economy/Jobs 20%. If I understand US politics right that "Moral values" here means issues like Abortion, Gay marriage, christianity/religiousness, "family values" and and qualities like steadfastness and itegrity as well as "trustworthiness".
I think this is an interesting point. I think people actually want to be able to trust their President and his integrity and they look to a man like that. Because once that is in place, you can trust he will make the right decisions in the economy and trust in his integrity to defend the nation. Personally, I would rather have a God-fearing man in office than one who isn't.
I have seen this for a long time that USA is turning more right than the rest of the world.
I would say the US has always been more right than the rest of the world. But more recently, we have been seeing a movement leftwards. Take for instance what life was like 40 years ago as compared to now in the US.
One note to Slashdot, I am sure this won't be scored high cause of this note, but can Slashdot not be so left-winged. I mean every Score:5 is something against the President or the election. I would appreciate some balance. But then, maybe I am asking too much.

I believe one of the great things about the US Constitution and about how it was created by our fore fathers was that no matter what time in history, it has stood the testing that the changing of our country has hit it with. Its lack of limit can be a two edged sword, but is definately better than one with limits built into it, IMHO.
People who know anything about the Charter (including judges and lawyers) are well aware of this, and eager to push back against government attempts to curtail freedom. We know the government would get away with it if we let them.
Sounds like the Canadian government is in sadder shape than the US.
I did build a PVR box and it cost me roughly $620. Mind you I opted for the 120gig hard drive and 512M of RAM. Be aware with either Freevo or MythTV that my Athlon 2200 was just a nudge over what being accurate for doing recording. I would venture to guess a person wouldn't be too thrilled with the performance of an 800 mhz machine. However, the time it took to work out the bugs (to which I gave up after two weeks of research and fighting) and when it did work during some trial tests (which were low quality sadly) I decided it wasn't worth it. For $620 and the time I spent, I could have opted for the TiVo and a lifetime subscription. Just my 2 cents.
I have tried both MythTV and Freevo.. Each of which took days to get to work and not fully. The quality of the broadcasts was very low and there were driver issues and hacks all over the place that had to be done just to get a common TV tuner to work correctly (AvertMedia). That aside I wasn't impressed with either product after weeks of fighting and research. I am looking at TiVO at this point.
In a recent article in PC Magazine, Dvorak states his thoughts that the Mac may be moving into the Intel camp. The article is http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,939886,00.asp . He claims that the Mac maybe first at the plate when it comes to using the IA-64 platform. After reading the article, its possible Microsoft knows this and is changing it's 64-bit roll out strategy. Wasn't there also an article here on Slashdot saying Windows wouldn't be available for the Intel's 64-bit platform until 2006?
Wasn't there an article a while back on Slashdot about a Powerbook Titanium being baked and still working (although the screen and keys were beyond repair, it still booted). That truly is amazing.

Impeaching Bush will only mean you get Chaney as President and sans him Dennis Hastert. I am not sure what impeaching Bush will accomplish..

You forget about: 4 1/2. kissing the blue-state brusing (boo-boos) and cradle it to know the pain will go away soon.
Hmm.. can we say 802.16 phones? communicators? cars?
Maybe if it was done from time to time to quiet the cynicism, then it wouldn't happen..
Somehow I don't think Osama Bin Laden fears God.. Else he wouldn't be doing what he is doing.
