Normally wouldn't reply to ACs but what the hell. NOONE has the right to restrict you from reading without their permission. Copyright imposes certain limits on the dirstribution of a work, not on it's consumption. Do you seriously believe it's illegal to read a book if the writer says you can't? While I can agree with you about the sense of entitlement that seems increasingly prevalent I would argue that getting a copy made of something that the rights holders either refuse to sell to you, or charge an inordinately higher price for no reason, is morally acceptable even if illegal.
Coming from a merchant seaman: Fuck You. There's no way in hell you'd be so glib if you had to deal with the threat of armed attackers at YOUR job. The fact that you've been wronged by someone is no justification at all to wrong someone else. Attacking cargo ships 600 miles off your coast can in no way be construed as a defensive action. In short these people, however desperate, have become nothing more than criminals. Hell outside of MSC contracted ships most US flagged vessels aren't even permitted to be armed. Your only defense against explosives and machine guns is to use fire hoses to prevent boarding. Good luck with that. As far as I'm concerned the sooner they take these bastards out the better.
I think this will have nasty applications for web email providers. GMail and I'm guessing the other major ones filter out executable attachments to prevent spread of email worms. If this can beat their filters there are surely plenty of people still unwary enough to run programs emailed to them.
But at least, as in the grocery store, you would have a choice. Maybe 40 single channels would cost 80 dollars. Then again that would make the perhaps 5 channels I'd buy only 10 dollars. Your analogy would be more like going to the grocery store and finding they only sell 24 packs of soda. Every can is a different flavor and it doesn't matter if you only like 3 of them.
I think that's a little paranoid. Fox declined to show the latest Obama press conference because it was during sweeps week and gets worse ratings than their normal programming.
I've spent countless hours practicing on my guitar. I haven't done it in the hopes of making money at it. Actually I won't even play in front of people, but I do it anyway because I enjoy it.
Any time I want to send an executable to myself I just put it in a password protected rar file and mail that. Sure it's a bit of an annoyance but I'd rather take that then have gmail start allowing executable attachments.
See I think things like WoW transcend being simple 'games'. It's a different form of interaction in the real world to me. Playing WoW with my buddies is no different then going to see a movie with them, or hanging out watching tv, or whatever other ultimately pointless use of time we engage in. Second I remember that money has no inherent value. It's just a way to exchange specialized labor. Taking those two ideas into account buying money in WoW with 'real' currency is just like buying a dvd or book. I'm exchanging x hours of labor in the real world for x hours of grinding gold. As it happens I find the prices charged for gold to be absolutely ridiculous so I have no desire to buy any but I don't have the slightest ethical problem with it. MMOs have varying levels of skill, but they universally reward time invested. Choosing to exchange your time for someone elses is not wrong.
I'm in Mexico City for a couple months right now. Any movie you want in theaters and thousands that aren't are on the street corners for about 20 pesos. Bout a dollar thirty or so at current exchange rates.
I'm spending a couple months in mexico right now. I can use skype on my iPhone for a couple cents a minute or pay AT&T a dollar fifty a minute. As it happens I'm using skype anyway from my pc to call back stateside but being able to wander the apartment and do it from my phone will be a great help to me.
Well I suppose clicking 5 or 6 times before going to bed could be considered too much effort but in case you haven't checked your options recently check out dvd decrypter and handbrake. I find it to be very easy to reencode dvds (and other video sources) to watch on my phone that way.
If you want to play them on the internet you do have to buy four copies of those games. Single system multiplayer, while fairly uncommon on PC games, is a separate distinct feature from online multiplayer.
Neither is theft. Both are illegal. I think most people however would agree that there is a substantial difference between downloading a song and putting it on your portable player vs. downloading that same song and using it in a product you sell. The introduction of profit motive makes a pretty big ethical difference.
Maybe I'm too cynical but I find it more likely at this point that they'll just take the money and run. They already have your money after all, why pay for patches?
This while true is besides the point. Hollywood still makes more than enough money and it isn't anyone elses fault that they distribute it to a small minority of the people who make their products.
Sure. Why not? Everyone will be able to use it for free so I'm not sure why your using the boogey man of large corporations. Take a band like Green Day. Would it kill them to stop receiving royalties on music they made 15 years ago? They'd still be pulling in cash on the stuff they've done recently.
I always thought this had something to do with key frames. I know next to nothing about video encoding but I gather that it's something like an index and having an index that only references every 3 or 4 seconds saves on encoding time or file space or something. I mean there must be some reason encoders don't just set it to.01 second intervals.
75% may be somewhat over stated but I don't think 50% would be. His entire point was that modern distribution doesn't cost nearly as much. So dvds at walmart aren't making 75% profit. Of course that would be absurd. But how much of the ~15 dollars was eaten up in pressing a disc? making a case? Putting it in a container and waiting a month for it to get to a warehouse in your country, then further distributing it to a local store? Sure the profit isn't gonna be 75% but profit + packaging + distribution + middlemen just might be close to it.
Most people simply throw away old TPS reports but this is such a waste. Simply add a chicken base and blend on puree. Voila! Office Gravy! This simple addition is sure to add a delightful flare to your next Synergy Snacktime or Branding Banquet!

Which is kind of odd considering how much money we save by not paying for entertainment...

Even better. It could be a DOS prompt. ::}

Perhaps the oddest Godwin statement I've ever seen. Nice work. ::}

Except to the 10 year old it's not fantastic. It's commonplace. I'
But that 400mw green laser pointer I bought on the internet might just do the job...

Do not taunt happy fun Internet. If the internet is a game: You win.
