Not at all - 22mpix is about film resolution, which is just becoming widespread with the 5Dmk2 and D3X. Long way to go before that's on my phone. Similarly there's a long way to go with ISO. The 5Dmk2 has 25000 iso, but its still not perfect. Lots of room for improvement there and that's just two areas.

I'm not a lawyer but my understanding is that directors personally duties to the company's shareholders. So the shareholders should sue the directors. They're never going to get the $20bn back, but they should get some compensation (and send a message about how directors should behave)

  18. Why aren't shareholders suing? on Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang To Step Down · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think the Yahoo/Microsoft saga is one of the most shocking displays of directors' self-interest vs their shareholders' interests. For the sole reason of maintaining independence, Yang and the rest of the Yahoo board instituted poison pill defences worth millions, attempted to a deal with a competitor which was good short term but very bad long term and held out for a price (in the absence of any other interest too) that was way above their previous closing price.

In hindsight shareholders have lost $20 billion. At the time of the offer the premium was around $10 billion. Astronomical numbers to waste just so a board of directors can maintain their personal wish to remain independent.

Its an indictment of the USA's corporate law that shareholders have not sued for breach of fiduciary duty. If they can, but haven't, well they deserve all they got.

Jerry Yang - good riddance. Just becasue you can create an online yellow pages in your garage, (and get very lucky), does not qualify you to run a billion dollar company.

I don't know about you but that would be great on my living room wall when the right projection technology becomes available. Matter of fact my wall is larger than that, so I wouldn't mind more.

But really the point of my post was to point out that many people many times before have have said something along the lines of the infamous 640k statement and have been subsequently been proven wrong. Sure you might have a point with the existing applications of that technology, but I'm sure you don't have a crystal ball. Saying that you have reached the limits now, inhibits future growth along paths that you might not foresee.

It was a gamble, no doubt. I can see the validity of many of the above reasons for choosing Palin, and there are certainly more. But in the end, they ignored Palin's greatest liability - her lack of intelligence, experience, and grace under the pressure of intense media scrutiny. And those ended up having a greater negative impact for the ticket than the positives she had

I was going to type something to say perhaps JMC was cornered into choosing Palin, perhaps that is true, perhaps he chose to take the the gamble. Really what we expect of a president is that the buck stops there. Whatever the motivation, I think the choice was very rash.

I wonder what went on in the backroom that led to McCain choosing Palin? Certainly after the Couric interview to me at least it didn't feel like she had McCain's full support, sure he said nice words about her but it never rang true to me.

Was choosing her a simple cynical play to grab the small town christian vote or was he backed into it by a party who couldn't take the leap of faith to choose Joe Lieberman? If the former, well McCain deserves what he got. If the latter, the Republicans deserve what they got. I dare-say the race would have been a whole lot closer.

Perhaps that's the problem with being a "maverick" within your own party - sometimes you have to make choices which ultimately satisfy no-one.
