I'd rather have a guaranteed unlimited relatively low bandwidth with a limited amount of bursty high-bandwidth activity. Most of what I download I'm in no hurry for but it would be nice to be able to kick in some real speed from time to time.
OTOH, if you sold me a Lexus claiming it was good for 120mph, I would be out of order complaining that I had to drop to 0mph after 300 miles to refill the tank.
If the service is advertised as "unlimited" then no, there should not be a cap. If you're sold based on speed and the cap is hidden, that's deceptive but you don't necessarily have a claim of fraud.

Doctors and mechanics and, for all I know, hair stylists already have tablet PCs for these things. And they're already ruggedized and the people who develop for them don't have to bow down before Steve Jobs to get their apps approved.
If the senate was selected how it was supposed to be, by the state legislatures, and not the popularity contest it is today, this might be less of an issue.

What people don't seem to realize is that a keyboard is a negligible cost, in almost every (expense, weight, space) way, addition to a portable computer in all but the most extreme cases. It also provides you with a somewhat handy screen protector. Make it so it folds out of the way as you have suggested and it's a no-brainer.
Even many tiny, tiny smart phones attempt to have some kind of a real physical keyboard. It's just too useful. This is the ultimate problem that all tablets have faced and there's really nothing special about the iPad that puts it outside of this. Tablets are just sadly n a bad place on the venn diagram of the trade off between cost and functionality.
I can almost see it as a media device. Almost. Does it have a built in stand? And no flash?
Unfortunately, HIPAA is very much like mandating a fire escape but not requiring that it should not stop 40ft above the ground. And also that it should be gold plated.
So what you're saying is that regulations did not prevent this from happening.
This is the problem with regulations, the honest follow them and get disadvantaged by them and fall behind, the dishonest ignore them and get ahead (until caught or something goes wrong). And even those who do follow regulations may cut common sense non-regulated measures because of the overhead caused by pointless regulations.
What is needed is not just more and more regulation but sensible, sane regulation and more enforcement.
Exactly. If employers want to discourage job hopping, they need to ensure that compensation keeps up with experience. Many companies seem to think that they can continue to offer poor raises and people will stay out of "loyalty". Well, that ship sailed a long time ago. When you get a miserly raise then you hear of someone else being hired on in a similar (or sometimes lower) position for 50% more than what you're getting then you're told raises are being held in the low single digits this year, what exactly are you supposed to do?
Though personally, I don't really like the whole automated raises thing. People should be encouraged to negotiate their raise and justify it each and every year. This would work best for all concerned.
There are three ways of taking averages, mean, median and mode. Average generally is taken to mean "mean" bit it isn't necessarily so.

But the issue is not with the lack of window type UI (I have been thinking that it is actually a very bad paradigm as currently generally implemented) but with the lack of multi-tasking, which is a game killer. It was one of the biggest complaints with Palm for a long time and look where they are now.
Anyway, it will be interesting to watch. I think the iPad is a mistake from Apple unless they manage to pull off some quite significant saves.
Call me when the ipad has an e-ink screen, incredible battery life and free internet.
And Palm really dropped the ball. The Ipod Touch is what the Palm TX II should have been. Instead they went monkeying with smartphones, going up against Microsoft and Rim. I still use my TX a fair bit.
In the past 20 years or so, the UK has introduced a vast improvement to this type of roundabout: Spiral lane markings. Pick the correct lane and follow it and you get dropped off at the correct exit by magic.
It would be. Unfortunately, they're too hard to catch and nearly impossible to prosecute and the family man doing 10 over on a high visibility road where the speed limit is seriously under what it should be is much easier game so that is where you'll find the police.
Just don't do what so many round here seem to do which is to up it to 60 in the overtakey bits then drop back down to 50 in the windy bits or let your speed waver up and down between 45 and 50 cause you're not paying attention.
Oh, and a PSA for some Tennessee road users: If you are traveling slower than 10mph under the speed limit and there are 3 or more vehicles behind you, the law requires you to pull off or pull over. This applies to bicycles too.

And for those who are about to blast me, read what I wrote again carefully.
The number of orders of magnitude is within an order of magnitude.

There's even a radio interview out there where they met and discussed the event.
Looks hard for sarcasm tags

I have never seen this on any of the cars or vans I've owned (with varying combinations of disks and drums)

Angled impacts produce round craters. It's a bit counter intuitive but you can prove it to yourself with a bag of flour.

See, round here, we improve safety by not allowing the dead to drive.

You nearly got there. Title or no title, it was the "superior force of arms" that counts.
You only own what you can keep. Everything else is just convention.
