    That's like me saying I don't understand why you use Exchange when you could use something free, like Zimbra, that also supports push. Everyone has reasons for what they've chosen to use and none of us know the whole picture unless we are directly involved in the decision making.

    I have a BS in CS and I work IT. In a small or medium company there is no difference. I answer helpdesk, code the Web site, punch wires for the phones and call the power company when things go south. Perhaps I've failed at life, but at least I'm not the tool asking about A+ and Network+.

    I feel my company does something useful to the community and I am happy to participate. Don't discount it unless you are in San Jose and hiring...

    I get your idea for a restaurant and many of those have started using providers anyways so they don't even own the equipment. But a hotel? You're gonna need a lot more backend stuff and better wap than a little linksys to give your guests internet access. $1000 would be cheap for a hotel to come out with, I'd imagine a lot more depending on the floors and layout of the hotel.

    You must stay at some shady places if they don't require you to have a credit card for incidentals or damage to the room. I doubt Bumfuckski Redneck Lodge that would accept $50 and look the other way has wifi.

    Until they change providers. Instead I'd change my DNS to something that I trust rather than the DHCP provided DNS.

    Do your friends pay you for interesting information and photos that they may not be able to experience, but would like engage with you and discuss? How much does it cost to be your facepsace friend?

    A friend of mine was in Australia for awhile and if not for her private blog, she may have fallen out of contact with the casual friends and only talked to the few willing to shell out money for an international call. It's cynical of me to say so, but it would definitely keep you in contact with the weaker links of your social circles.

    Imagine timing a hangover with jet lag... It's not fun in the least.

    But it's a good excuse for being hungover. Uh, sorry guys, but it's only 3am back home, my body hasn't slept it off yet.

    Not to mention that the thin air makes the booze go to your head quite a bit faster (or feel as such anyway)

    That's a benefit! I mean, after awhile they're gonna run outta booze. Or at least I've experienced them telling my party that we drank them outta specific types and they offered others. Man, we musta spent a small fortune on that flight. Two at a time, $5 each, wait, that's cheaper than some well drinks in California... I gotta fly more.

    This isn't designed for cellular devices, that's Android. It's for thin client desktops with SSDs rather than HDDs, not MicroSD. I don't see why it would not take full advantage of the bandwidth, it's not like their customers are gonna have gigabit level ethernet drops to the home.

    The target audience isn't power users, it's basically an OS that runs a specific browser with some support for stuff like digital cameras so you can upload your photos to Picasa, Photobucket, et al. It's for Ma and Pa to use.

    I disagree with the "proper way." I do not use .NET and have no wish for that to be in a competitor's browser. To me the proper way is for me seek out a download, preferably through an XPI, but definitely not through Windows/Microsoft Update.

    Although I thought I read it, I didn't see the link to the second page to TFA, so thanks for redirecting me back to it.

    I am a halfway knowledgeable user that uses adblock, noscript, betterprivacy, use privately encrypted TOR when about (Iron Key) and only allow certain cookies.

    Do you really feel this is necessary? Sounds like you are jumping through a lot of hoops and degrading your browsing at the expense of a tin-foil hat.

    Hopefully it's gonna lock out add-ons that weren't initiated from within the browser with explicit intention from the user. The MS .NET stuff and the browser addons that get automatically (if you're not paying close attention, which my users never are) added from Adobe Reader, Java, CCleaner, etc.

    Far from the same. There is no need for a home router to be a DNS server to the outside, at most a repeater to the LAN from the ISP's DHCP assigned addys or for a customer with a bit more savvy, the IPs for OpenDNS.
