On the MS issue, the one thing you didn't cover and it's the most important is that MS doesn't claim to be OpenSource at all. Because of this, they handle all of the development of the OS and they ensure that there's plenty of warning to the corporate devs when they're removing features that everyone has become dependent on. The last element is that MS is responsible for updates to the OS, not the device manufacturer. So long as the driver meets the current OS Driver format, it will continue working on the latest/greatest version of the OS.
As an example of this, I just upgraded a 7+yr old laptop to Win7 from XP/SP3 that HP and AMD/ATI don't support anylonger (purchased just prior to Vista's Release), Windows update had drivers for the various hardware - Sound, Modem, Video and Networking. They're not the fastest drivers but they're stable. I'd hoped that Win8 would be a viable upgrade for it but MS has been firm about the minimum specs of Dual Core or better and it's only a Single Core (Turion ML34). So this is the last OS that will run (even linux has already passed it by; including debian). So it'll eek out its remaining life as a Windows box until Win7 reaches EOL in 8 years.
Keep in mind that a Willfull violation of Copyright in the United States can result Massive Punitive Damages. Simply put, RH could recieve a judgement as great as the recent Apple/Samsung Case exceeding a Billion Dollars.Well Played RH.
if it's a win8 only chip, it quite possibly includes the damn "Trusted Boot" feature that MS wants on all hardware with UEFI. This means that unless the fucking bootloader and OS is blessed by MS, it wont run.
Now if this is only for those Win8 Tablets and such that MS wants to get to market, then the chip may well run Linux or any other OS that's x86 based though w/o the blessings of Intel. Another issue is that Intel May restrict sales of this to OEM's with a minimum of 10k per order. Another possibility is that Intel could limit this chip's initial sales due to fab problems and/or to prevent canabilizing higher profit chip sales if this chip is as big an improvement as the C2D was over the Netburst/P4 architecture.
You're right about the asthetic issue. I've got a candy bar phone that lasts at least a week between charges and if I'm actually using it, it'll last 6-8 hours of talk time in fringe reception area's because it has an actual antenna that I can pull out when needed. Range is great as I've successfully connected to the carrier while 6 miles off-shore (whale watching trip). Surprised the hell out of me an most everyone else when the damn thing rang.
That's presupposing that the News is actually News instead of Entertainment as it is in the States. In other words, I don't consider it news when they interupt the damn weather forecast to show another idiot speeding the wrong fucking way on the damn freeway in L.A.. Hell it aint news to me when the interupt for the effen end of the world as I'm not a christian or someone who gives a damn about it. Just don't interupt my/. or god damn GW session
There's your biggest drawback to the 1k keysize. How many of them can handle more then that? Simply put, it's the U.S. Telco's that aren't able to handle anything larger as everyone else offers phones that can handle 2k+ certs.
Hell, why not use a Rasberry Pi? It has most of what's needed and sure as hell should be able to meet FAA Certification of the hardware for replacement of your built in players.
actually, the deflector dish is designed to take power from the warp drive. Otherwise you can't extend shields to protect that other ship or station when you need to. Thus it wasn't a crazy idea on the part of the engineers to divert power to the deflector dish though it should have been divert power to the navigational deflector as that's what the dish is.
I'm an author myself and haven't look at Amazon's policies but from discussions with others who have and are using them, I'm seriously considering it simply because I can make more money in the long run through them then one of the big name publishers.
The key element is what I as a new (unknown) author would be offered for a new book (about $0.02 per copy sold - maybe 5k books advanced). Sure sounds like lots of money but that's a meager $10,000 advance and may be the only funds I ever see for a book where as with amazon, I can price things where I feel confident the market will at least buy some and get the bulk of the money (75-85 percent) from each sale, meaning if I sell 1k copies in a year, I've made almost as much as the advance fee from the big name publisher and the income may continue coming in should the book continue selling unlike the big name, who may only print 1k copies and never promote or even sell them simply to tie me up in a contract. (I know one hell of a run on sentence). In other words, does Amazon make sense for me as a new/unknwon author and the answer is "Damn good possibility".
5yr old laptop with a turion processor? sure it might be 64bit capable but with less then 1GB of memory, is it even possible to run a 64bit OS on it? How bout a 700MHz Celeron (P3 era) that still runs WinMe? Hell the unit is still capable of everything asked of it today, which is office tasks - Word Processing, Email and Power Point. It's even used for some game play (games that don't install or run on Win7).
I Find it funny that people demand the latest greatest hardware when something like this old system still works and the really nice thing is, it uses a meager 60 watts of power. In fact, we're considering repurposing the thing to replace the home router due to the better memory (512M) and faster CPU compared to many of the routers you get today. Hell based on the specs, it's as good as a $2k Cisco unit though w/o the Cisco label or OS on it. Can I Sell it for that if repurposed as a proper router?
except for the fact that the TOS is referenced in any and all Residential contracts as being the determining factor along with the ability of the ISP to update at any time and your continual use of said service is aproval of the new Updated/Restrictions. Although I live in California where an EULA is not a valid contract, it has been ruled by the courts that a TOS can be and is a valid part of a consumer contract.
I've been forced to look at this issue myself in regards to tablets. Yes the iPad is pretty damn nice but you know what, the only thing it has going for it is the Retina Display. As to battery capacity, sure it lasts longer but that's due to the larger battery (check the specs).
What's pushed me towards the Acer over the iPad is software. Everything I use will run on the Acer because it's Win7 like my desktop. Thus I don't have to find alternatives that work the same on both with one only being available from the APP Store with all the problems about updates and such.
Even in the workstation class, Apple isn't anybetter then Dell or HP. In fact, since Apple moved to Intel, they're really no better. The old G5 Mac Pro workstations are still the better choice if you need number crunching because they're a true 64bit CPU unlike the AMD/Intel offering which is only 48bit capable. The 64bit support is only for (memory) address space.
Hell I'm able to run programs written for Win95 on Win7. That's a span of 20+ years of backwards compatibility. Apple? Although they've been pretty decent about it with OS-X they don't have anywhere's near the backwards compatility that both Windows and Linux has and no, that's not a misstatement about Linux.
Keep in mind that in linux, as long as you can build, you have compatibility with what ever features you need. If not, then you also have the option of figuring out why in hell it wont compile and fixing the problem even it may cost more to rewrite/fix the app then to find a replacement
Set it back to the old 50MB size and empty on close and you wont have the memory leak and yes it does work correctly on a Win7 system with a mear 2GB of memory that sees lots of flash (neopets/yahoo games). Hell I saw the change back in 4.0 and reset the damn thing back to 50Mb as that's all I need for temp internet files in firefox or IE
except you can get a cheap hp bw Laser for under $100 most times with the benefit that toner never dries out and forcing replacement of the cartridge
My first laser was a Samsung bought on sale for $100 about a decade ago and it still works. Toner runs about $50 a cartridge and the really nice thing is, we've only bought 3 cartridges in the last decade. For the ocasisional printing needs, it's been a god send after using inkjets that had cartridge costs of $30+ for each (two needed).
I will agree that inkjets offer a reasonable alternative for those who need color printing but when I'm asked for input, I always suggest a laser printer. If you need to do a photo or two, go to Walmart/Walgreens/Riteaid/Other local store and spend the money for printing the thing out there. It's actually cheaper and better quality.
Simply put, I have absolutely no apps that depend on JAVA and this is exactly why. As someone else said, the best solution is to removed JAVA entirely and never let it near your system again. Friends don't let friends install Java and we don't do windows
No. Feed half of the damn MBA's to the shreder along with 1/3 of the damn lawyers. Don't forget to include 95 percent of the CE/FO/IO and Boards. Then there's the 130 percent of the damn pols that need to be included and maybe we'd finally get this country back on track.
Yet no one cares that Firefox and Google do exactly the same thing, plus that they do it with a unique key for every Firefox install. That key allows Google to identify a firefox session, even when it's "In Private"
If you block the connection to Google's Safe Browsing service at either the firewall or proxy server, then the firefox installs silently fail. You Must disable the check in about:config (safe) to do so and there are six entries and every one has to be reset to off otherwise safe browsing is not disabled. At least MS offers a straight forward method the first time IE starts up to not use the Smart Screen/Safe Browsing filter unlike Firefox/Google where they don't even tell you that they use it. Because of this, I'm more willing to trust MS instead of the Firefox/Google folks.
because they want it back? That's what a Pawn shop is all about. Secured Loans. They hold the item and are responsible for security and everything else.
Nice to meet you Type44Q. I'm a Fast Turtle and I never check for typo's. See I'm always tryen to get a frst prose

yea! something called Firefox has this problem. Maybe they'll finally get their act together and fix it.

Sorry but it only applies to color printers per International agreements to prevent/track counterfit money
