The only way I can see Nintendo taking the lead over Microsoft with it's next generation console is if the GameCube 2 can play GBA games without a GBA pluged-in. (By having a carthroge slot on the side and the regular CD player for GC & GC2 games) The GBA game library is so huge that all of a sudden, your console could play them all from the day of it's release AND have access to regular CG games.
It's so obvious that this is a wining strategy IMHO.
Yuo're missing the point. GNOME on HP-UX is not targetted at the desktop segment of the market. HP-UX and the platform(s) it runs on is used for either very specialized worstation applications or server stuff. HP will continue to ship it's OS with a deskyop interface for their costumers. It'll just be CDE insead of GNOME.
This is not a COM component but a bunch of regular DLLs. To my knowledge, dynamic libraries, hum... actually, I'm not sure if dynamic libraries run in their own address space (out of process).
"Former Napster aficionados are wirelessly linking their PCs to their stereos to better enjoy their MP3 collections."
And how are they doing just that? Is there some kind of WiFi gear I can plug in my Amp's audio input?... fooling it that it's receiving a signal from a CD/radio/tape or something?
The point of Eclipse is that it's written in Java and is therefore cross-platform. Eclipse is also a java widget toolkit that's made to look like a native app on whatever platform it runs on.
The Eclipse framework serves the same purpose as Swing. The Eclipse project is much more than an IDE.
It's better for the W3C to release specifications early on than to have each vendors wait for it, and in the mean time, develop their own proprietary solutions. Browser developers are much lees likely to roll their own proprietary specifications if they can just read a W3C one and worry only about the implementation details.
If enough cheaters submit faulty WUs, what's to say the those WUs were not supposed to return positive results? If all the people who double-check a result are cheater, then it's likely that if there is an alien signal to be detected out there, it may have gone unnoticed.
Actually, it's even easier to stop auto updates than that. For example, after installing Win2k SP3, MS install a new "Automatic Updates" NT service. There's a safe bet this is the programm that does the updates... so all you have to do is configure it to "Disabled" and voilà!
If I remember correctly, the agreement with MS ended a few months ago and AOL no longer has an icon on the winXP desktop (haven't installed XP so I'm not certain).
Guess what, the interviwer's question was *what if* Opera was Open source and had a huge market share, would it make a difference?
He was using Opera as an example because Andreseen told the guy that he wouldn't comment on MS's antitrust lawsuit because MS is a partner to hir company. If it's any consolation, you're obviously not the only dolt around bacause all the people who answered you and moderated you up didn't get it either.
Didn't the LWZ GIF patent expire a few years ago anyways?
The is this company called SCO that would sue Sun if they would GPL Solaris.
It will never happen.

How about Internet Navigator? It's nice, it says what it does and AOL already has the copyright to the Navigator name.
1- Rip
2- Mix
3- Burn
4- ???
5- Profit!
Geeks prefer to rest than to use soap.

Templates and the STL are implemented in GCC and GCC is ported to all the platforms I know of. It's the lowest common denominator of C/C++ compilers.

Probably all the morons who have overtaken this site for a while now.

Apple doesn't have $20M to burn. 2003 will be financially rough for apple until IBM releases the PowerPC 64bits.

What's the movies's title? I'm sick of reading that joke and not understanding.
He said 20 Mb of RAM.
In any case, this is bound to make overclockers drool :)
Farscape is not dead. Season 4 will continue in January. Farscape
Wasteland to cityfolks but apparently not for the natives who live there, not to mention the whole ecosystem.

Slashdot now has i18n compliant typos.

FYI, the Quake 1 & 2 engines can be licensed from Id for 10000 USD and you can keep the whole thing closed.
